Anyone worried with the emergence of Matic, Pogba and Bruno as first teamers, suddenly McTominay and Fred have become atrocious and are starting to give bad performances which given the before corona time, which were definitely either average or better than average. They have become even poorer.

Theyre exactly the same players they were before lockdown, good without the ball, plenty of energy, combative, give 100% and show plenty of pashun.

Their problems come when they have to play with the football, fred touch and mctominays passing leave a lot to be desired.

If we aspire to be a dominant side in the majority of games and play with the ball, i can't see either being mainstays in the team.

But they definitely have their place in the squad.

Fred and mctominay are this squads version of park and fletcher, very useful players but you need to pick the right games and the right team selection when you do use them.

Im with DSG. They have not suddenly got worse. They are playing bit parts now so its hard to find decent timing and rhythm.
When they both played weekly you saw the best of them imo. 2 hard working players that give 100% make a decent contribution but in a constructive sense don't offer a great deal of inspiration.
I see mctom having a long butt / oshea / fletcher like career at united if he continues to improve. I see fred moving on due to a lack of game time at the end of next season. Those sort of squad roles of 5th choice are rarely filled by his profile and cost.
Midfield is short quality bruno cover and quality matic cover/ replacement imo.

With Fernandes and Pogba, we see that our team creates much more opportunities going forward.
Matic on the other hand is probably in the form of his life.

I think we should try to replace Fred and mctominay with Saul and Alcantara.

Those two would be a significant upgrade and in rotation with Pogba, Matic and Bruno would provide fantastic options plus strength in depth.

I'm with DSG on this one. I don't think for a second that they have dropped in quality. Two things has happened, firstly with a lack of game time they aren't quite as match sharp as they were before. Secondly, we now have much higher quality players to compare them too.

With Pogba now back fit and Bruno in the line up, the deficiencies in Fred and McTominay's game is more obvious.
