ED001, if OGS gets sacked in the near future, who in your opinion should Utd look to appoint?

{Ed001's Note - Nagelsmann or maybe you should look to Gasperini (nod to angelred there) as both play good attacking football. They both seem the best fit for the United way, in terms of the way they play and their willingness to look to the academy to fill gaps.}

Gasperini is a great shout to be fair. Made Atalanta one of the best attacking sides in Europe.

Marcelo Gallardo seems to be pretty highly thought of and has done well in Argentina, Ed out of curiousity what's your opinion on him?

{Ed001's Note - I would love to see him manage in Europe, absolute legend in Argentina, but just don't know if the fans would give him a chance, otherwise he would defo be one I would have suggested.}

Cheers ed. Interesting. I'm sure he wouldn't be a popular choice given his stats but I like the way he has Atalanta playing and you're right, seems to fit the 'united way'.

{Ed001's Note - stats need context, his stats with Atalanta are incredible when you consider the budget he has compared to his rivals in Serie A.}

Agreed ed. But they will be an easy target. I mean, he managed Genoa, Palermo and had 5 games at Milan.

What he is doing at Atalanta is nothing short of incredible.

Their youngsters are going to be picked off though as we are now beginning to see.

{Ed001's Note - they are likely to continue earning off the youngsters though, they get a cut of any future fees, so it is a good long term income.}

As a River Plate fan who has followed them closely since Gallardo took over, it's always a conflict to see his name linked with teams like Barcelona or the Argentina job as he really deserves a shot at the big time but there's no one even close who could replace him at River. Silky attacking football style, very ready to promote youth players, always turns up for the big matches (barring the 5 minute blip at the end of the last Libertadores final) and above all a lovely and humble guy. Met him once and he thanked us for taking a photo with him. Legend.

All United fans have their own personal favourite players to sign, or manager.

Most are happy to ship out Pogba thinking we will sign Saul Niguez as his replacement. The reality is often we ship out player and their replacement isn't who we wanted.

People are happy to see Ole sacked on the basis that the club will hire Gasperini, or Allegri, or Nargelsmann. When the reality is that we are more likely to see Ryan Giggs or Gareth Southgate come in as Ole's eventual replacement.

Thanks ED001. Would either of those two be open to a move to Utd? Given that the club is a shambles.

{Ed001's Note - I very much doubt either would want to, not without the right set up to work with.}

The way things are going we will be looking for big Sam to get us out of trouble.

What is your opinion about Ralf Ragnick Tris? I think he is really good at implementing a setup at clubs. I think he can introduce the right setup for future candidates like Nagelsmann or Gallardo.

On the topic of Gasperini, Tris and I along with some others have been raving about him for many many seasons. Also to the topic about stats while judging him, Atalanta have been the best team in Series A for 2 seasons stastically. Also the youth setup of Atalanta is really really great. The recent talents emerging aren't just a "lucky crop/ class" of youngsters breaking through rather more an indication of the work and efforts as well as quality of their academy. So I think they will still continue to produce young talents for good few yrs like Ajax. They seem to have a "conveyer belt" when it comes to producing young talents.

{Ed001's Note - Rangnick is the man I would look to in order to create a set up for the long term future.}

That would be the best pathway for us in my view, ed001. Bring Ragnick in as a manager with a view to moving him upstairs in a DoF/ Sporting Director role in the future. He did so a willingness to move on from the RB setup so shouldn't be unachievable right now.

Tris do you really see us going for Ryan Giggs if we were to sack OGS now? I think even our board isn't that dumb and out of touch with football but they have surprised me on many occasions before.

{Ed001's Note - I think personally that they would be wary of going down the ex-player route again if Ole is sacked. I doubt they would expect it to work twice to appease the fans and would just be seen as trying to do so, rather than an attempt to move the club forward.}

Any top Manager is still likely to be interested because of one simple thing MONEY.

One thing is certain whoever the unlucky sod is will have half the fans turn on him after a couple of months unless we win all our games 5-0,so far we've tried a youngish British manager, a tried and tested European and international manager and the special one, but the fans have turnt on them all, now we're trying one of our own and most have turnt on him. it really seems the united managerial position is a poisoned chalice.

It doesn’t matter who we choose next. Provided they are appointed by the end of this year, you can be sure that the board will fail to back him come summer 2022 and we will all be fed up again.

danny

All the fans didn’t turn on them all. One of our own is actually an ex player being the sentimental choice. Maybe if they choose better, we can talk about something other than the manager.

Greenwood Rovers, thanks for those insights on Gallardo. Nice to know a little of what is behind the image.

C'mon lads, all four managers since Fergie have been complete pants in their own different ways. The fans only went against them because we were fed up of being served up a load of crap week after week.

The fans will recognise and appreciate a decent manager who trys to play entertaining, attacking football in a clearly defined style.

The fans will also have some patience if they can see what the manager is trying to do and they like it.

What we won't put up with is another load of dross for the 8th year running.
