Valdes getting sold because apparently he refused to play for the reserves last term is what LVG is saying. Wow! Ruthless! This is the manager Man Utd deserves. No one is bigger than the club. Well done there.

Agree 100%, no one is bigger than the club, we pay them so they do as they are asked or flump off, and rightly so.

2.) 15 Jul 2015 23:10:09
He did play for the reserves though.

3.) 15 Jul 2015 23:24:28
I don't agree with selling him! We need him as back up or to step up

4.) 15 Jul 2015 23:53:21
Would be nice to get Yann Sommer.

5.) 16 Jul 2015 07:33:30
Van goal confirms valdes to leave. That does not leave us with many options between the sticks do ya think. Unless he has someone lined up to replace him and possibly ddg. Van gaal he is a secretive sod.

6.) 16 Jul 2015 09:46:41
we still have lindegard on the books don't we? Personally thought he was a decent keeper and needed a run in the team .Only a couple of seasons back there wasnt much between him and De Gea

7.) 16 Jul 2015 13:15:28
So do we really need to sign two keepers? How good is Sam Johnstone? I haven't seen him play? Could he have it in him to become our no. 2 ? So we purchase a NEW no. 1? Jan Oblak would be my first choice then Bernd Leno? Yann Sommer is another good option? Before all that comes to fruition is there ANY chance De Gea stays? Or, do we now want him to stay?

If this has been done before, pardon me. I am mainly putting this to the Englishmen here.

I am not from England so I don't have insight into this matter. I might have been misled through what I see in the media or in other social media platforms. I want to know how can a club rivalry make someone hate a player who is representing your nation. The recent one being Wayne Rooney. He is no Charlton I agree but he deserves respect for being where he is. I cannot see any other player in recent times that England can identify herself with. Why is he not loved? I find it heartbreaking tbh. He became joint record goalscorer yesterday but I couldn't see the nation celebrate (I may be wrong). I just read through excuses and excuses why not to appreciate it.
You could diss his achievements away if there was someone else to consider. But, there is none. Only Rooney can be put forward to represent England, no one else. People accuse him of not having a title to demand respect as the highest goalscorer, but that's not just his fault. He might have had his ups and downs. He may not be what he was before. I know United fans will always respect him. But why can't the whole country celebrate what he has achieved.

Even not being from England, I felt pretty sad to see that. I know people are tired from seeing England play awful and come nowhere close to winning anything. But you got to love what you have. He has given it all he could playing for his country. He deserves some love everyone.

People you fail to recognise Rooney as an Englland and Manchester United legend are morons, he's about to break charltons English goal scoring record, probably be the most capped player to represent England eventually too, he will probably pass charltons Utd record too, he's one of the greats for club and country

2.) 06 Sep 2015 19:05:18
I probably sound all philosophical now, but I think it is more a reflection on society rather than just football fans.

The world is becoming a very selfish place. People prefer confrontation over friendship and togetherness. Just look at the crap on television. Rubbish like Big Brother thrives on conflict and nastiness.

I dread to think what this world will be like in 50 years time.

Christ , I need another beer and a lay down now lol.

3.) 06 Sep 2015 20:22:07
Sadly I agree with much of that betty, divide and conquer rules these days. Its far more fashionable to slag something off (much of the time while being un-educated on the matter) than it is to feel pride or see the best in something.

We are manipulated to feel that way to a degree though by society, the media etc.

On the Rooney debate, another point is that international football has lost a lot of its attraction due to the money swilling around at club level in the Epl, champs league etc.

4.) 06 Sep 2015 20:34:33
From a tv point of you have to have conflict to provide drama. The problem is its all mostly anger based confrontational conflict based on arguments. I blame east enders. What about positive conflict which drives change for the better. An internal conflict leading to a cathartic realisation of needing to improve for the better. Any moron who watches big brother needs help.

{Ed002's Note - I saw Big Brother in Petaluma two weeks ago - want to make something of it?}

5.) 06 Sep 2015 22:02:48
Betty. Sad state of affairs I know. I'm off the same opinion. Most TV programms es thrive on conflict and manipulation. It is pretty pathetic and concerning that our kids are growing up in this environment.
Need another glass of Portuguese red!!

Sure anytime you need help let me know.

Since Fergie left, players don't seem to trust us in winning anything in the near future and I don't blame them. We don't have a title winning squad. Its been difficult for Van Gaal to totally replace the players. It isn't easy to bring players in. We need to show promise in competitions to bring players in. We need to do well in the UCL this year. We can't do that without a few additions though. And I think that's exactly why we need to splash the cash. I would be least bothered at how much United spend beyond what would be reasonable. We need to pay up to keep up to being what we are as a club. So, my suggestion would be to not pull hairs over price tags. The club needs to spend big for its own good. Whether those signings turn up for us, only time will tell. No one can really make any predictions over it. Could things be managed differently? only an insider would know that.

The amount of deadwood remaining in OT at the moment roughly equals the number of PL titles Liverpool have. All thanks to Van Gaal. Very few would have that strong personality and conviction to do what he has done imo.

1.) 29 Aug 2015 23:24:06
That's what the man does.

Some managers are promotion specialists. Great at getting teams out the championship to the promised land.

Some managers are survival specialists great at keeping teams up.

Van gaal is good at rebuilding clubs. Clearing deadwood, overhauling outdated set ups. The manager after him will inherit a club with a great squad and set up.

2.) 29 Aug 2015 23:33:01
It's all well and good clearing the decks of players he doesn't feel are up to scratch; but if he doesn't replace them with players that are it counts for nothing. If anything he is just weakening the team.

Last season he complained about not having a 20 goal a season striker; so he allows four strikers to leave the club (who between them have 405 club goals in 689 games between them since the 2009-2010 season) and doesn't bring one in. To me that's bizarre.

IMO we're weaker now (in terms of our starting 11 at least) than we were in SAF's last season - despite spending an insane amount of money in the wake of him leaving.

3.) 29 Aug 2015 23:50:03
Its woodwards job to bring the targets in not the managers. Also given the zero net spend is there owner interference?

4.) 30 Aug 2015 01:33:52
Redseven,

In my opinion we are a hell of a lot stronger now than the team lvg took over, he has done a great job of in stilling belief in the team and getting rid of players who aren't good enough.

5.) 30 Aug 2015 01:25:40
Hate fans calling our players, 'deadwood'.

6.) 30 Aug 2015 03:22:54
NC99 I enjoyed seeing most folk pay tribute to Jonny Evans a day or so ago. Even though we all know he wasn't as good as say Nemenja Vidic, he gave his all when selected, was one of our own and was very loyal.

To see players like Evans, Fletcher, Rafael etc being disrespected as 'deadwood' as soon as their United careers have come to an end is simply embarrassing and disgusting.

7.) 30 Aug 2015 06:19:47
unrelated to what happens to Hernandez which personally i would be very surprised if he goes, i think we have needed a clear out for many years now and rebalancing things from wage bills to just personnel.

You have to respect the guy for what he has done as many would agree they needed to go. It does set us up well for the future in terms of people coming in and even if a new manager comes in, he is not burdened with a squad that is very unbalanced and wages that restrict him from new signings.

Given our financial position and earnings i believe going forward we are the best placed football team to make significant signings and add to what we have. We have a young foundation of very good players now and a few additions here and there will see us win trophies every year and compete at the top with Europes best.

This is very good team and as the season goes on i expect it to gel and get better. A premiere striker or right winger before the window closes would be ideal but hard to think of anyone that would be available.

8.) 30 Aug 2015 08:03:17
I agree GCU we should have been more ruthless with the players we have let go years before now but it is not to say they should be disrespected.

I also agree that we have a good core of players here, a good mix of youth and experience and if the media is anything to go by, then yes we are very well placed financially.

I will just ask you this though City have been crippled with FFP restrictions yet have shelled out more than £150m on top players so why aren't we using this financial muscle of ours to strengthen and become a real force this season?

9.) 30 Aug 2015 08:20:33
Maze

I think the players city bought fits their needs and not necessarily our. One can argue de Bryne would have been a good fit but then again when ever i watch him he either plays on the left or as a number 10. Ottamendi is also one people would have argued for and was also my preference to Hummels but obviously we balked at the valuations.

We are not lacking options on the left or at the number 10 position as rooney is the natural choice there for me. We need a striker or a right winger but no one of any significance has moved in this window. Many of the big teams are also looking for similar type players but there seems to be a genuine lack of players available.

A couple years ago we had this big debate here that we would not spend money on anything over 30 million which i found amusing. I firmly believed we would spend and watched us spend 150 last summer, although not very wisely. We have the funds but i believe the manager when he says we will not spend money just for the sake of spending if what we have is already as good.

I think this team will surprise people as the season goes on. For my own peace of mind i would like to see a goalie and forward secured before the window closes and would be content watching us go this year. Sometimes not great to watch but we will win many games.

10.) 30 Aug 2015 10:00:46
Ok deadwood maybe isn't the best term. But it still needed doing and was long overdue.

New arrival - 'Theoretical scheme'

Welcome to OT! :D

1.) 28 Aug 2015 19:37:39
Is it Theo retical-scheme?, sounds German.

Or the o'retical and he's Irish?

2.) 28 Aug 2015 20:41:50
I got no idea, mate. You got to ask Van Gaal.

27 Aug 2015 18:50:09
Definitely could have been worse. Could have been a bit easier too. I am sure LVG and the players won't take anything for granted. There are some tricky ties in there. Its going to be special for Memphis. If we are able to get through the group stages, I'm positive we will be a match for those tough opponents. We tend to do better in end to end games and Van Gaal has made us perfectly suited to European football. He knows what he needs to do and we certainly have the players to deliver. Now let's build on to what we have. A signing would be such a good thing at this moment.

1.) 27 Aug 2015 19:16:38
Perfect group. Not so easy that we take it lightly and not so difficult that we get knocked out (gulp).

2.) 27 Aug 2015 20:26:55
I've taken a screenshot of that, RWWD. Meanwhile, I am on currently stocking up on lanterns and pitchforks.

;)

3.) 27 Aug 2015 22:33:42
Dream draw, like always. Could have got an worse team then Wolfsburg from pot 4, but overall we probably got the easiest group.

@Bennyblanco, what I also meant to say was it could also be a player he would like to be linked with us and ask the Eds if something was going on in the background. Something could be happening and one cannot know everything about what's going on. So, I feel its best to leave those things for the Eds to decide. And, we all miss Ed002 badly don't we? otherwise we wouldn't have to beat around the bush all the time. I don't know what really happened there so can't comment on that. Cheers mate!

@Ronnie Cheers mate. as RedAndy94 said keep give us something to read always. Anything else the Eds will take care of.

And hats off to the Eds for doing such an amazing job on this site. Its a real warm place to come to and talk with fellow Reds.

Jock and Ronnie,
Rumor is a rumor. It can be off the mainstream, or someone you overheard in a pub. It can also be someone you would feel like you want to know something about. You have every right to ask what you please. If it bores off the Eds, they will deal it the way they would feel right. If it bores off people here, they have a good 'X' button on the top right of their windows to click.
Why do people think they are entitled to 'teach' what and what not to ask? Peace.

What is a Liverpool?

Redatheart

{Ed007's Note - It comes from the ancient Latin Scouserus (plural: Scouseri): A bubble permed, shell suit wearing wheel trim collector, known to inhabit the bleak wastelands of Scousedonia. Known to babble incoherently about the 80's and is known for it's shrill mating call of 'Next year! Next Year' over and over again.
They are closely related to, and sound very similar to, the Blueus Evertonianii who are genetically more modern after the slow intrusion into the gene pool of the sacred Manc gene in recent year of species like Darronus Gibsonus and Tyrannosaurus Cleverley.
It has yet to be discovered what overall effect introducing Jonni Evansaboveus to Scousedonia will have to it's present eco-system, some have predicted a cataclysmic event that could even rival the end of The Wanderers.
Both tribes of Scousedonia have been at war for many millennia over the remains of some guy called Stanley Park and many wars have been fought over him with both tribes keen to build on his land, after the latest failure the Red Scouseri have decided to just do a loft conversion instead.}
