We've been linked to a couple of Centre Backs this week. Two stand outs Goncalo Inacio and
Murillo, both left-footed, Inacio a very good ball-playing centre back and Murillo a defensive brute.

It makes sense as Martinez is really struggling with injuries and Ayden Heaven is the only other left-footer.

Personally I'd like Murillo as he's prem proven and has been solid for two season but he's much more expensive.

Marcos Senesi is the obvious choice. Great age, EPL experience, has been one of the standout defenders in the league this season and is available on a free.

{Ed001's Note - he is a very weak defender though. Good on the ball, but not good at actually defending.}

Shappy, I've heard from someone who should know that he will be signing for Liverpool.

Murillo is definitely my pick. I'm not entirely convinced by Senesi either. Van Hecke would be another really good choice too. As much and all as I think Inacio seems a good player, the step up from the Portuguese league is massive, so it's risky.

I'd gone for Diomande or Ignacio personally.
One of the team is a Forest fan, we talk ball a lot, he's a coach too, and says Murillo is nowhere near the level for United.

I'd be a fan of Van Hecke too, Don.

Van der Ven could be our man.

{Ed025's Note - you have one of those headless chickens in De Ligt Eric, you dont need another one mate..

Ed025 what's your issue with De Ligt. That guy gets some massively unwarranted hate. He was one of our best players until he got injured. Very far from a headless chicken. We have plenty of those too.

{Ed025's Note - i dont hate anyone Don..i just dont think hes a very good player mate, hes a bit wooden for me and for the size of the guy gets bullied far too much, Harry gets a lot of stick but he is your best centre back by a mile..

You're entitled to your opinion Ed but I don't think Harry Maguire is anywhere near De Ligts level. Or Martinez for that matter. It's injuries that are the issues with those two

{Ed025's Note - better than both of them for me Don, very rarely lets you down and is actually one of your better goal threats mate...just my opinion..

Definitely a good goal threat. I admire the guy, but I don't think he's a particularly good defender except in a very low block. I also think he's a big problem for the buildup, as he releases the ball far too slowly. He can have a role, but not as a regular starter if we want to compete for titles.

All have their strengths and weaknesses. The most rounded CB we have is actually Heaven, but Carrick is doing what he was predicted to do, and allowing player power to rule the roost.
I hope Heaven has a 9/10 performance against Chelsea, and Carrick can give his head a wobble.

It is widely known that I dislike Maguire intensely as a player. However, I hold my hand up; this year he is having a reasonable patch in what I hope is a swan song, and he warms the bench next year. He has done well, and taken his opportunity well.

Grass grows round him, he moves so slow, and you could tie his shoelaces whilst he is running.

Height is his only real asset.

I have to admire his determination to succeed, but thankfully time is running out. Stand to be corrected, but I suspect a very mediocre year next year for Harry.

Thing is, Jimbo, we were on a good run. ECL looking likely. Carrick knows his job is to get that, by hook or by crook.
Why would he risk throwing in a young kid in the centre of defence at this powderkeg point of the season?
We'd be the first on here criticising Carrick if he did do that, and Heaven messed up.

Was it Ed1 who said he didn't rate Heaven at all? (Apologies Ed if it wasn't you!)

Heaven and Yoro have a lot of development to get through before they're good enooygh for us, but let's not turn our backs on them yet.

I love De Ligt, proper defender, but largely pointless as he's always injured.

{Ed001's Note - no, I like Heaven, it's Yoro I don't rate.}

Thanks Ed yes and apologies for that. Heaven looks like he good he could be the ral deal. Yoro has a lot to do before he even looks promising to me!

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, it is easy to forget who said what.}

Yoro is Bambi on ice. Heaven looks like he has something about him.

Van Hecke is not elite level. All top teams that win things need a top, top centre back, and preferably two of them. Look at the difference Van Dijk made to Liverpool when he signed for them; he is still having an impact today.

Senesi would be a good squad player, but we still need better. The two questions are: who is out there that much better, and willing to come to us?

Eric no, he always rated me :) Seriously Ed001, as you can see from my username, I like the lad and think he can be really good. Do you think he has world class potential? The only criticism I can make of him is that he can be a little rush sometimes

{Ed001's Note - potentially, yes. Needs to build some more strength as well.}

I agree Ed001, I think he will as he seems to have the right mentality from what I have seen and from what he has said.

{Ed001's Note - hopefully, as it is always good to see a youngster make the most of his potential.}
