Reports coming out Iraola is a serious contender for the role, would be delighted if he joins.

Very impressive coach. Obviously, the questions will surround as to whether he can build a title-winning squad, but he has to be top of the second tier of managers being considered - a tier in which I see Carrick also, fwiw.

If Arri K is in the same bracket as Iraola, then I'd rather see Carrick stay, and that is after feeling like we were okay with Ole and then it turning to dogs***.

Better the devil...

Makes sense in a lot of ways. Decent age and has plenty of experience, Premier League-proven, available right away, no compensation needed as he's out of contract, plays an attractive style of football, and he has an excellent demeanour and way with the media. Different animal at United, I know, but he's definitely an excellent option.

A lot would depend on how much authority he could impose on the dressing room, and could he do what Amorim could not... get the players to buy into his way of playing.

Lots of debate on here on the merits of each coach, but in one word, who do you each really want to get the gig? I'll go for:

Poch.

Nagelsman (obviously Enrique is the utopian answer but I'll assume he's not available).

Enrique would be a dream. Other than him, I honestly don't have a preferred candidate. I can see the merits and pitfalls of all of them. Just hoping that whoever it is this time can get it right.

Our future success will depend at least as much on the players we sign this summer as it will on the coach. I don't think there's anyone out there who is available, hasn't already been tried, and who has managed an EPL club to a major title. Whoever we choose then is a risk.

Iraola looks like a good option to me. He's done very well with modest resources, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll succeed under the OT glare. It would not surprise me if it's between him and Carrick, two youngish coaches. A tough choice.

Iraola seems more likely for Chelsea, imo. Talk of Enrique seems absurd to me - far more likely a Pep replacement, I reckon. I'd be intrigued by Nagelsmann, but with each victory it seems more likely to be Carrick's to lose. Best hope the scousers do us over. :D

One word ??.

I'm leaning to Carrick, but would wait until the end of the season.

Enrique is the one I'd want, but he seems unavailable.
Xavi is Temu Enrique option, not enough evidence. Too risky.
Nagglesman is intriguing, but Germany are not flying and his time at Bayern was not flawless, he's another risk, in my opinion.

Iraola, I really like, but I'm very unsure of his abilities at a big club, and how he can manage egos, also limited European experience.
Glasner is a solid choice on paper, but I don't like it. No logic, just don't feel it.

So it's Carrick's to lose for me.

Good to be considering other options to Carrick imo.
We need to be looking at and considering several candidates.

I think the club need to be professional and conduct a full review. Without any doubt at all, there are many better coaches and managers out there than Carrick. Anyone who thinks there aren't is being disingenuous and extremely short sighted.
I get the warm comfort of having an ex player, steeped in Utd, but this has to be carefully considered. I am openly expressing my concern because I think we would be looking for Carrick's replacement in 12 to 18 months again, when some of the managers have moved on. A lot of changes are coming potentially in summer, so we need to get it right. We can't keep veering off line. What is the exact direction, and values? Are we a club chasing familiarity of the Utd family, continuing to chase what Busby and SAF gave us? Yet we sit here with only 3 Champions Leagues because of our strategy.

We need to think differently. This is 2026, not 1986.

I get the clamour for familiarity, that Utd man steeped in the club, but it's not just Ole that went wrong, it's McGuiness, I've seen both. It's time to change the old record, be decisive with an exciting, innovative manager or head coach.

If the club go with Carrick, I question whether they have any plan or just make it up as they go along. If it needs a change from Carrick in 12 to 18 months, I suspect many managers will be less inclined to come because they think we are too emotionally driven and not prepared to change to meet 2026. That's why I feel strongly.
