So now the Calendar Year League Table is being rolled as an achievement. Iv seen a few posts saying only Liverpool are ahead of us in this table. Actually a quick Google search and City are too so we're 3rd.

Top 4 trophy, 3rd in the calendar table, 3 semi finals. All these achievements used to show Ole is the right man for the job are pathetic. Arsenal were ridiculed for years for celebrating top 4 finishes. If one of our rivals used the annual table (which we don't even top) as a plus point, they would be ridiculed.

Ole and the team did well last season to meet or minimum requirements of top 4. Now it seems he's more worried about keeping his job and playing it safe, then he is about winning football matches.

We had a really good record against our rivals and struggled against teams that sat back. That seems to have switched. We've been better at breaking teams down but now struggle against our rivals.

Spurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Leicester. We were well beaten by Spurs but the other 4 games were their to be won. Games against PSG and RBL we set up to get a point and those results and performances were appaling.

Ole has managed to keep his head above water as the bar rises. What is acceptable this year? Consolidate top 4? Does he need to win a trophy?

Every team has dropped some silly points and will continue to do so. But this year seems like the title could be won with 85 points. Do we have a team capable of reaching that points tally? The manager talks about playing football the right way, the Man Utd way but I see a man who is now caught in the headlights. Afraid to lose games. The grin on his face after the Chelsea draw, the City draw and the Leicester draw seems to show he is content.

Whether you think he's done well or not. The bar is rising. A 65 points tally won't be good enough. I'd love to see a Man Utd team not afraid of their opponents. We have enough attacking quality to cause any team problems.

So what would constitute an improvement come the end of the season?

I don't think top 4 etc is seen as an achievement it simply points out that things are no where near as bad as small amount of posters make out .

I'd say an improvement would be a points finish in the high 70's. Say 78 points which would be 12 more than last season. We've only broke 70 points in the league twice since Fergie left. I'd also like to see us actually control matches for a relatively long period, more than just a 20 minute blast where we score a couple. Ole has shown he has only really three ways to win, counter attack, an opponent mistake or wait for one of the very good attacking players we have to do something brilliant. In recent years it's rare to see a very good team who don't keep the ball and control the game. Currently we don't but are winning some games.

If we can combine that with a trophy from any of the three cup competitions as well I'd argue that is a big improvement overall. As it stands though I'm still very sceltical that we are actually improving significantly and I think we are merely showing that the average top 6 side nowadays aren't as good as they used to be say 5-10 years ago compared to the rest of the league.

Mumbles,

Stats can be really deceiving as is in this case. I think Ole has done well riding the tide clearing the doom and gloom when Jose left. However, the inconsistency across his tenure reflects upon the inexperiences of both Ole and his coaching staff.

The team is in a much better shape to take the leap to the next level which requires a manager with better credentials and a bold character to stamp his authority on this team and move us forward in the right direction to winning silverware.

The board really needs to have a vision for the future and take responsible decisions. If they want to persist with Ole then at the very least bring in a DOF and surround Ole with a better Assistant and coaching staffs.

United are one of the biggest clubs in the world. As good as the stats look on paper, Ole isn't the right man for the job.

Neville summed it up greatly a few weeks back by saying we should be aiming for the best in class that should include managers, players and structure. No one can say Ole is best in class.

My target at the outset of the season was debated and regarded generally as fair .
Plus 20 points on last season
Reach cl 1/ 4 final or 16 as a minimum
Reach another final.
In other word be in there competing to win all comps. Knowing you have a chance.
Given the circumstances and the context of the season and all that surrounds it I think its fair to say plus 12 -15 points would keep us competitive.
The cl target has been failed.
League cup exact same semi as last season we have that opportunity.
Fa cup and EL to start.
CL aside which should not be over looked its not too bad ole has pulled it back in the league after a woeful start.
Im very firmly ole out but have not been beating the drum for the last few weeks because i may not like how we are playing but as long as the results are there i'm happy with that.
When we win i like to look at the positives. Yesterday despite losing a win there were positives. This team still does not represent how i'd like to see our team play every week or even 95% of the time. But like under jose if the results and trophies come ill be delighted.
Id like to see a different approach but maybe that will come.
We had poor football and poor results
We had poor football and good results.
Couple of highlight games leeds psg rbl
Couple of nightmare games istanbul spurs rbl
Mixed bag . i'd have pulled the trigger after 1st 2 months.
Last 2 months cl exit aside the results have been good so imo you have to recognise that and wait. If results go downhill again then it will be time to be more criticle.
Fist i want us competing i want to have pride in my team.
Secondly i want to be entertained.
I have always held that view.
This team is not there for me yet. I believe it could be i believe in most of our players.
Can ole turn these players into winners? He is being given every opportunity.

Jred, you use last year's finish as a bullet proof vest for Ole. Further down the page you mention the league table for the year as an achievement. We're 3rd in it.

Let's play. Any manager that would be a suitable fit for us would have thier C. V dragged through the mud, yet all of Oles deficiencies are excused.

Ken, I would be on the same page as you. Ole deserved another crack at it this season and an improvement for me would be that we're in the mix for the league come March/ April. There is nothing stopping this team hitting 80 plus points this season.

If you look at the 3 semi finals last year, the games against our rivals this year and the two Champions League games we needed a point from, we have failed in them all. The quality is there against the lesser teams now but we've fallen short in the big head to heads when it's mattered.

Be great to win a cup, it always is. And to be with a sniff of the league come spring would be an improvement in my eyes.

{Ed047's Note - jred and a few others have been coming out with the same lame excuses for anything and everything since 2013.

It’s always about too, is or has or maybe or could or should or will be better than it actually is! 🤦‍♂️

Does anyone on here actually view finishing in the top 4 as an achievement? I don’t think so.

We should be aiming to win the league, and the squad we have is looking more and more capable. The coaching setup, not so much, but that’s been done to death.

It just shows how far we've dropped in 7 years ed. These little triumphs like calendar year, top 4 nonsense is what teams that don't win anything shout about.

The bar has dropped so much in terms of what should be accepted. And the constant moving of the goalposts to prove Ole is doing a great job is always fun to read.

{Ed047's Note - exactly what Arsenal turned into and what’s been happening here for far to long.

Making excuse after excuse, new dawns every 5 minutes and a crazy notion that this manager and this squad are on a level they’re collectively nowhere near.

Ed 47 definitely not it was time for both lvg and jose to go no excuses.
But people like yourself have gone on about how bad things are when in reality we finished 3rd last season. You don't even watch your own team?
Mumbles you where very clear that last season top 4 was all that mattered . Until off course we finished top 4 .
As I have said points in a calendar year is not an achievement but it is a fact . We havd been consistently picking up points and winning football matches for a 12 month period. Even if people find this hard to accept.
Whats the point of setting a target you will just move the goal post and sulk like when we finished 4th .

{Ed047's Note - just talking bollox again as usual. What relevance has watching Arsenal got to do with anything I said, zero.

You will and have said literally anything to make out your team is better than the sum of its parts and have since Fergie left.

You are a classic this year is going to be our year dreamer! 🤦‍♂️

Ed47 you don't even watch your own team ( what type of supporter is that ) but seem to soend your time watching united.
Let's be honest your only replies are in relation to myself .
But I will play the game last season we finished 3rd this season we are 4th with a game in hand . that's our level at the moment although I expect us to continue to improve which we did over the course of last season and have so far this season.
I think we about 10 points better of so far than last season .
You have slated ole and united, where telling me a few month back that Luis was a top cb and you had more faith in arteta doing well than ole
So where do you see this poor united team?

{Ed047's Note - winning absolutely nothing mate, that’s where I see them and not for some considerable time.

You don’t yet have a top quality starting 11, you defence is still dodgy and you remain heavily reliant on Fernandez.

OGS won’t win more trophies that Arteta.

Jred is a big big boy and doesn’t need me defending him but I don’t see what he has said that is so bad. The team is accumulating more points, 3rd and 3 semi finals last year and as ken says, we need to see an improvement on that. You don’t go from being pants to being champions the next season (ok, Leicester did it) so if we can add significant points to last year and win a trophy then surely that is progress.

It’s not perfect, far from it and it could just as easily implode but right now I’m enjoying the ride.

12.) 27 Dec 2020
27 Dec 2020 18:27:10
Jred. I said that top 4 was the minimum requirements for him to keep his job. And I literally wrote on the post above that he deserved a crack at this season, I wrote further down the page that we've been doing ok and as Ken above, now isn't a time to pull the trigger.

I'm disappointed this year because of the disastrous Champions League campaign and our pragmatic approach in the big games. I'd like to see Ole grow into the job and go out nd bully teams. But what we have now is a manager that sets up defensively because he's terrified to lose.

AJH, I would be happy with a 15 more points and for Ole not to choke in the latter stages of competition's. Gradual improvement is all we can hope for but I have seen many missed opportunities this year that is very frustration.

13.) 27 Dec 2020
27 Dec 2020 18:57:18
So we weren't out for a win yesterday? Rashford didn't miss 2 100% chances, we didn't have a disallowed goal, we didn't pressure their backline? Or, did we lose 2 points? If we did, that must mean we were a better team, and dropped the win in the end. I honestly don't know what game you have watched yesterday.

I believe no one is satisfied with "top 4 title", but nothing changes over night. We all know we need few more top signings. But the results we have, with the current squad and their limits, i'd say its pretty good.

Btw, I bet Arsenal fans would love that "top 4 title" now. I guess it wasnt all Wengers fault after all.

P. S. off with Klopps head, he dropped 2 points against one of the worst teams in the league!

14.) 28 Dec 2020

Surely the question is will arteta be fired before Ole wins his first trophy?

Mourinho finished second and won two trophies. How have we improved since then?
