Can anyone on here please tell me what Antony does?

Im saying it now. He's a worse signing we've ever made with the money paid and a worse signing than Maguire, awful player.

The game yesterday we get the penalty, Casemiro comes off and we're in better form and shape for Sunday. Why hasn't VAR let him go to screen like they did for the same ref Newcastle penalty when Dan Burn I think it was fouled not long ago?

People will say we got off with city but that doesn't matter, different scenarios and that the rules state the goal counts. we probably should've had a penalty in Newcastle draw aswell.

I'd rather have 0 VAR than them get it wrong twice as that's when it becomes a joke.

Behave kevani, we’re making great progress and the disappointment last night proves it . Thought rashford and Antony were quiet last night but it happens.

new league, new team mates, new country but he hasn't settled as quickly as others. He has been very underwhelming so far and if weghorst is going to get minutes then Anthony needs to be putting a few good crosses in quickly.

Let see in 6 months how well he has progressed . or not.

We didn’t get the pen last night after all the media kick off over the goal against city. It was a blantent pen. At that point Casemiro comes off and we should see the game out, supposing we score the pen. Rashford was poor last night, he was very selfish a number of times and often has a pass onto someone in a better position which he ignored. I think Casemiro should of come off earlier, maybe a Cb comes on and Martinez moves into DM for the last 20.

While you can’t say Antony is our worst signing after playing a handful of games, he is miles off it and offers very little imo. Always cuts in on his left, never uses his right, never takes a man on. I think he’s a massive overspend personally.

I don't rate Anthony either. But I thought yesterday swb was fairly solid.

Definitely not the worst signing and far too early in his career with us. Sancho/ Maguire of the current team would beat him to that before you even look at some previous nightmares.

Expectation of the fans is one of the problems with Antony, at £80m we all expect him to hit the ground running and at that price that may be fair. However, there is quite a jump in leagues and I also think he has had to bulk up a bit to adapt. all of this will take time as well as remembering he is only 22.
Antony offers a high level of work rate defending from the front, he holds the width of the pitch allowing for the inverted run of full backs or the midfield to move into. I think as he moves into next season we will see him attack more down the outside to offer more thoght for the defending full backs who at the minute just expect him to cut inside.
All in I think his role has been important in the overall improvement of the team and certain players. what we need to see now is an uplift over the remainder of the year in his own output.

Any wonder some of us get branded toxic.

If we paid 45 million for Antony people would be singing his praises.

Redman did say 'for the money', not that he was outright the worse signing ever. got to say I'm also not very impressed so far; seems like a one footed one trick pony. For £80 million I was hoping for a player who at least knows he has a right foot.

Thought he wasn't that bad yesterday. At one point, he drove around the outside and forced a corner, he can do that and would love to see him do that more often, it would keep full backs guessing creating more opportunities to cut in on his left.

Anthony- as said before looks like an expensive nani at the moment- terribly one footed and would gamble all opponents know that and will be drilled on pushing him wide.
Still euphoric about saturday tbh but last nite was a potential loss and we got a point; freekick was admittingly superb so onwards to arsenal- not only the points at stake but a chance to stick two fingers up at piers friggin morgan!

Mancman

It was Kevani who was the OP rather than me.

However, I said when bought that we overpaid, I wasn’t convinced at him being worth 85m. He doesn’t decide the price mind you. It is too early to judge him too much and he certainly is not the worst ever, he needs time to adjust. It’s a different league, different standard of players, moved house and country, patience is needed. At Christmas we should be able to see something, if not he will get questions. Looks to me like he is playing safe, that could be by instruction or for the want of a better word nerves. Give him time. Even so, he has to earn his place, we have Garnacho, particularly, even Pellestri who deserve chances if he isn’t doing it. The manager needs to be helpful but recognise others, it’s not about the price tag but performances.

We 100% overpaid when we signed him for 85m, we knew that at the time and if you are now sitting there feeling short-changed then you were paying attention back then.

That said I don't think he has been that bad at all. He has 5 goals in all competitions for us which means only Rashford has more goals than him. He also contributes a lot in terms of off the ball movement/ work both in terms of making pressures, and off the ball runs to pull defenders away and make space for others. In doing so he adds more balance to our attack.

Typically the issue we have had in recent seasons is not just an over reliance on attacking down the left, but also the player from the right being drawn too centrally allowing the opposition full back to tuck in and closing down the space between the defenders making it harder to attack.

Antony stays wider, forcing the full back wider and opening up spaces for other players to exploit.

There will be more from Antony, he has to work hard to continue to develop his game.

We have to remember we signed a 22 year old with only 18 months of experience in Europe, playing outside of one of the traditionally stronger leagues. He isn't the finished article.

I think he's been quietly promising, the issue comes if you either expected him to be one of the best players in the league based on the fee we paid for him, or if you are only a casual fan who follows the ball and doesn't notice what the players are doing off the ball.

Beaded on price is by far our worse signing.

Still early days but I don't say what he brings, what he does apart from slow down our play and go backwards.

If he improves I'll admit I'm wrong but I think he will be probably some were else else for 30-40m in 2/ 3 years.

Shappy we paid 86m for him.

It's what he does on the ball what counts not off it.

Scott mctominnay runs about but he's awful player can't wait till he goes aswell.

No problem Mancman

We need to give Antony time to settle, let us see what he is like season 23 .24 that’s my take. £85m looks over the top, but let’s see if we still think that in 12 months.

Kevani, That's a very basic and rudimentary way of understanding football.

Football is a team game played over 90 minutes, during which time no one player will spend more than 10 minutes at most "on the ball", which means over 90% of the time a player is on the pitch they are working "off the ball". To disregard that work as unimportant shows a naivety to how a team sport works.

Prior to Antony signing we won 60% or our games and lost 40% this season.
Since Antony has been in the team we have won 75% of our games, drew 15% and lost only 10%.

Now that isn't entirely down to Antony of course, but he has been an ever present in the team and has played a role in the up turn in fortunes.

He plays an important role in pressing from the front, he creates space for others and he is our joint second highest goal scorer.

If he and Weghorst can develop a similar understanding to what Antony had with Haller then I'd expect Antony to pick up a several assists for Weghorst this season. Look out for Antony cutting back on to his left and crossing to the back post for Weghorst.

he is a young player with limited experience moving to a new league, a new country with a new culture and into a team that is being totally rebuilt under a new manager.

Also don't under estimate the importance players like Martinez and Antony have had in helping the team understand and adapt to how EtH wants them to play and how much quicker that adaption has happened due to having players who already know what to expect in the team.
