Anyone seen Ralph press conference part two?
I can't speak for everyone but I feel this fella is going to be so important to us moving forward! He calls it as he sees it! Given the right role he will play a big part in putting the club back together, you can tell in his wording he knows what needs doing .
A class act, and regardless of results under him appointing him and then following it up with a further role backstage might be the most important business we as a club have done .

Chris1

1.) 23 Apr 2022 10:00:23
That's if he's here next year Chris. I have my doubts.

2.) 23 Apr 2022 10:16:49
I did and if he is genuinely a part of the process and his public comments are a part of preparing the way for what needs to be done then good. Hopefully Murtagh is fully on board with this way of thinking and RR making them in public is due to this.

The key figure in the whole process though is Murtagh and its too early to judge him. I don't know much about him other than that which I could Google. His background looks interesting and he seems to be bringing in some good people to surround himself with from a footballing point of view.

I think this summer will give us a good idea of his intentions and qualities, I have hope rather than belief right now, but I am hoping Murtagh makes me a believer. I.

3.) 23 Apr 2022 10:53:12
Yes oak bark I’m the same as you
I just re assure myself with the fact this is also a huge opportunity for Murtagh himself to make a name for himself! If he can lead the club back up the ladder he will also be held in high regards by us! The way RR is talking I think he’s staying and I’m hoping a quite prominent role!

4.) 23 Apr 2022 14:40:05
Press conference was brilliant. Rangnick is so authoritative and really tells it how it is. Not afraid to point out the problems. So refreshing after OGS clichés.

Let's address the elephant in the room! I'm fed up of reading about Donny should start, Donny should have come in earlier bla bla! He's now beginning to get that horrible cult following that Martial somehow managed to get! I've got nothing against him but I've not seen anything in him that makes me think wow . Typical Dutch / Ajax, very neat tidy but I just don't see where he gets in a forward line of Cavani ronaldo Greenwood rashford pogba Bruno . And before the cult start no he is not a 6, our only cdm is Matic, Fred and mctominay can do that role together but are not what you'd call traditional defensive midfielders. So don't start throwing abuse at Fred and mctom, give football reasons why Donny should start . For me he doesn't.

Chris1

1.) 12 Sep 2021 09:30:46
Well Chris, you haven't seen anything in him because he hardly plays.
5 minutes in the league so far from 4 PL matches.

No matter how badly Fred plays, he keeps getting picked. Why not give Donny a chance especially when Fred is in such poor form?

But, I personally think he is about to get some game time.
Ole said before the match that Donny is waiting to be unleashed.
There might be some reason why Ole blocked his exit on the deadline day.
Hopefully he starts midweek and grabs the opportunity.

2.) 12 Sep 2021 09:37:13
There are far more positive things happening at the club now than to focus on VDB - what I will say is he can’t be training at all well, otherwise he’d be getting game time.

3.) 12 Sep 2021 09:39:42
Couldn’t agree more Chris.

4.) 12 Sep 2021 10:08:10
I'm a big fan of Donny, but agree that so far at least he hasn't really shown anything consistently when he's played to suggest he should be a guaranteed starter.

I agree he isn't a No.6, he can play that role for sure, but I don't think it makes the most of his skillset and I'm unsure he can play it to a high enough standard in the EPL.

With how we play, and in the EPL I think his best role is as a No.8, an offense minded box to box role. His best attribute is his ability to make and find space. He could enable us to move the ball quicker and more intelligently through midfield. If you rewatch the Lingard goal yesterday and watch Donny, he does a little give and go on the edge of the box with Pogba, after passing the ball back to Pogba he makes a run around the outside pulling two players with him and making the pass the Lingard possible. If Pogba made the pass back to Donny instead of Lingard then he would have been 1v1 with their keeper. It's that sort of movement that opens space for himself or other players. Against teams that sit deep his sort of movement could be key in opening up chances.

There are two issues with playing Donny as a No.8 though currently. The first being that Matic is our only true No.6 and pairing Donny with either of Fred or McTominay could leave us too open in midfield. The second is that Pogba is in great form and can also play as a creative No.8. So currently he is behind an in form Pogba in what is likely his best position, while he would be behind an in form Bruno in his second best position.

I want to see Donny be given more chances but right now he has two world class players playing very well in the two possible positions he could play in.

5.) 12 Sep 2021 10:15:07
Agree completely on him not being a number 6 and trying to shoehorn him into that role makes little sense.

Also agree that its going to be tough for him to get a game in the forward positions.

My only issue is why sign him then and why not let the guy go this summer. He clearly still has a good reputation in europe and there would have been clubs in for him if we made him available for transfer.

Also rumours are that he was third choice that summer behind grealish and maddison. he's nothing like those players really, makes the signing even more of an odd one to work out.

6.) 12 Sep 2021 11:39:40
Fred is no where near as technically gifted as Donny, but Fred can get over opponents and be a nuisance. We need to play him and mctominay together because neither are good enough to be the sole holder. Donny showed last season a tendency to tire when he played from the start. People may not like it but without a top classing defensive midfielder Fred is one of the better options based on his defensive work rate alone.

Before I’m criticised, I’m not saying Fred is great, we need to upgrade him ASAP.

7.) 12 Sep 2021 12:21:03
I think with the relentless nature of games coming over the next couple of months we may start to see Donny play more regularly, whether this is in the Premier league, champions League or cup games we will have to see.
There may be a master plan that will bear out over the season. he is a good player but we are slightly lopsided I the midfield area and this will need to be addressed next season one way or another.

8.) 12 Sep 2021 13:10:11
What we do have now that OGS has built is a squad with options - players like Donny and Lingard etc are
Going to get some good game time I think. Hopefully Back
To the days where you play for Utd, you should expect serious competition for places and the pressure to perform is high.

9.) 12 Sep 2021 13:29:18
Some great answers, I’d be over the moon to see Donny play regularly because that would mean he’s producing numbers and performances better than pogba and Bruno! Just can’t see it at moment! Onwards we go ??.

10.) 12 Sep 2021 13:42:22
Ole has shown blind loyalty to those who haven't performed. DVB needs a run of games before he can be judged.

11.) 12 Sep 2021 19:05:24
Mad hatter why does he need a run of games? They see him every day . A run of games at whose expense? This is the point .

10 Sep 2021 13:37:41
After watching the Ronaldo videos and interviews with Wes Brown I'm absolutely buzzing for tomorrow and the next 18 months or so! He sounds as determined as ever and I can't wait to see where he can take this squad!
?⚫️.

Where? Linky?

{Ed014's Note - pornhub

2.) 10 Sep 2021 18:23:43
I would imagine a world record for number of views via an illegal stream will be set tomorrow around 3pm.

Which all seems a little silly, mind you for how much match tickets are going for currently I'd imagine the profit made could clear the national debt.

I genuinely don't think there has been as big a buzz around what is essentially a league game against a mid table club in the history of the EPL.

Make no mistake tomorrow at 3pm practically the whole world will be watching.

But not fans of non-league clubs, they'll be braving the weather watching the mighty Gosport Borough take on the incredible Yate Town at the impressive Privett Park. And not watching illegal streams?.

3.) 10 Sep 2021 18:58:46
Cracking little place Privett Park, this season Soothills are running the new tea shop in the corner of the ground. Southills for the uninitiated are a fantastic bakery in Fareham. It's better than Bensons in both Freckleton and Kirkham that I used to visit when I was a kid going to see the grandparents. I am not sure if Bensons is still around but if you ever find yourself in the Portsmouth area go visit Soothills.

4.) 10 Sep 2021 21:00:35
No point tuning in until at least the 62nd minute though is there….

5.) 10 Sep 2021 21:58:28
He has to start. Played 90 minutes against Ireland, has been training the last few days and the fact that he's a freak of nature.

I would be absolutely amazed if he's on the bench.

6.) 10 Sep 2021 23:45:21
Really Mumbles? Amazed?
I might be amazed if a UFO landed in my garden and Donald Trump walked out of it. Actually maybe not.
But certainly not if CR7 doesn't start tomorrow on the bench.

7.) 11 Sep 2021 01:16:13
What can I say Spenno, me and Paul McCartney are both easily amazed.

8.) 11 Sep 2021 10:17:39
Nothing Donald trump does amazes me.

9.) 11 Sep 2021 11:57:01
The only thing about Donald Trump that amazes me is that a man who thinks drinking bleach is a good idea is still alive at his age.

Surely he should have died of his own stupidity by now? ??‍♂️.

10.) 11 Sep 2021 14:52:04
Well I stand corrected - Ron starts. Great looking team on paper/ screen. Our strongest I would say, as I appear to be in the minority and like Matic. Greenwood in his strongest position although Sancho has looked anything but an £80m player so far. I am a huge Cavani fan so hope there is a way both he and Ron can line up together but looks unlikely.

11.) 11 Sep 2021 15:35:39
Can’t wait Chris, I’m getting goosebumps just thinking about tomorrow, hopefully he starts and the fans are buzzing.

31 Aug 2021 20:48:56
Window closing in two hours and although I'd of liked few more out and possibly an expert defensive midfielder in, what a fantastic window we've had! Absolutely buzzing! 🔴⚪️⚫️.

Chris1

1.) 31 Aug 2021 21:18:40
Do you think we should be winning the league Chris?

2.) 31 Aug 2021 21:57:15
Chris

If buzzing remove your finger from the electric socket

We are weak in midfield, have been for years, so it will be more of McFred, 2 holding and defensive football, likely Ronaldo frustrated at the lack of support.

3.) 31 Aug 2021 22:23:14
Oh lord please don't upset anyone chris by being positive. I'm not sure if it's allowed😂😂.

4.) 31 Aug 2021 23:03:51
We have had a good transfer window but holding onto Lingaard and DVB and therefore not signing a top defensive midfielder undoes most of the good work. We won't dominate games from midfield and the top teams will expose our midfield defensive frailties.

Meantime Chelsea sign a top player on loan in Saul and that's the difference between them and us and their chances of winning the title.
They already had Kante and go sign another strong player who can defend and play out from defence into attack.

In Spain Madrid have been very clever and used the weakness of that league to not spend a fortune whilst saving money to pay huge wages to next seasons free signings like Mbappe. They are planning ahead and looking and hoping to dominate for years to come.

5.) 31 Aug 2021 23:30:48
RedMan - there is surely something positive you can take out of this window? Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course but it’ll be helpful to understand the thinking framework behind it. Shappy does an excellent job explaining it in every post, Ken finally cares about points and everything else will align of that happens etc. For what it seems, just Ole out seems to be thinking behind all your posts.

6.) 01 Sep 2021 02:43:58
Why you worrying about Chelsea, personally don’t think Saul improves them that much if at all their very good in that area anyway!? Who cares, we’ve improved our starting 11 by some distance! A midfielder would of been nice but what do we know! Whoever asked me should we win league, judging by some on here avoiding relegation would be some achievement 🤣! Let’s see how we go, as I’ve said previously look up our starting 11 from 3 1/ 2 - 4 years ago and then tell me we’re not doing something right! 🔴.

7.) 01 Sep 2021 03:50:36
Chris1, unfortunately having a strong squad on paper is not good enough. Need to show that on the pitch.

8.) 01 Sep 2021 07:30:51
Circles

The window has been good, addressed some but not all issues. There has been a midfield problem for several years whilst watching Matic decline and it is frustrating we will go through another season without a decent central midfield. It makes it harder for us to control games, therefore play differently. It means we more likely to have to play as we have done than see much change. We now rely on individual creative ability even more, although Ronaldo could be a good addition when playing like that.

Separate to that I still doubt Ole has what it takes to win the league, happy to be proved wrong, whilst supporting the club that I have for well over 50 years. It is allowed to do both.

9.) 01 Sep 2021 06:59:18
Let’s play, your right let’s see what they can do but as far as transfer window goes the club have done very well, struggled to shift few more unfortunately that might have helped get that midfielder in but looking forward to seeing how this squad evolves further this season!

I don't remember the debate about a foul on Bruno last week lasting this long, souness the bitter bin rat 🔴⚪️⚫️.

Chris1

1.) 29 Aug 2021 19:00:59
Funny isn't it, its Pogba of course he is going to lose it.

2.) 29 Aug 2021 21:14:16
It just wasn’t a foul, he took about 4 steps before he realise he was hurt.

3.) 30 Aug 2021 05:52:52
It was a 50/ 50 challenge and not a foul but Pogba did make slight contact with Neves's shin pad.

Pogba is lucky I would say, if his foot got anywhere slightly to the right when he made contact it would had been deemed reckless and dangerous as his foot was in the air and would have got him sent off.

4.) 30 Aug 2021 06:13:08
Souness makes me laugh. I am old enough to remember him play and a dirtier player you wouldn't see. These days he would get sent off most games and be arrested by the police on an assault charge.

Well to start with there is murtagh and fletcher in roles we never had up until a year ago and Woodward gone from involvement in football matters, straight away that tells me the structure has changed from peak Woodward times!

Chris1

{Ed002's Note - No. The structure that the club has had in place has not changed since appointments were made. We are not talking about some random point in the past.}

Agree Ken
Poch or TH will both have question marks but both will have huge opportunity! We’re one of biggest clubs in world ( whether some of you miserable sods admit it or not ) and they can come in and grab the club by the scruff of the neck and get us going again! What an opportunity! Either one will get my full backing ( as long as they get rid of pogba ) ?.

Surely no one in their right mind wants cr7 or Cavani to stay, or RL to sign for that matter! Let’s stop this nonsense of giving final pay days and go out and get or find our next cf for ten years!

Also I must applaud RR on his rashford comments in presser, if he wants to go then he can ??.

Your wrong Ed, fear factor should be evident in every industry, you should never want to let your boss or your manager down! Let alone go publicly gibbing off about an employer who has paid you extortionate amounts of money! Playing football is the same, and I bet Liverpool and city players are scared of letting klopp and pep down because of the amount of respect they have for them! Never hear a peep from them camps because the fear or respect is there .

Chris1

{Ed001's Note - it is not fear that does that, fear makes you freeze. You are showing a complete lack of understanding of what works. The reason Liverpool and City do so well is because they don't fear making a mistake, they can play without fear.}
