Maguire deal now off. Seems we didn't want to pay him off and he wanted the money, that and he's still delusional enough to think he's playing a lot of games this season. Unless a serious injury he's not getting a sniff (praying we don't get one)

Honestly us fans are giving this too much of our energy.
He's already 4th choice. Maybe 5th if shaw starts ahead. Could even be 6th if ETH signs Jonny Evans which may still happen.
Given that him being sold wouldn't help us much with FFP he can stay as 5th choice.
Henderson deal is off. Maguire won't go. McTom too seems set to stay.
I am not entirely sure how Donny going on loan helps us. don't think we will get offers for brandon on his wage.
Not a lot of sellable players left.

If ETH wants Amrabat which he still might do, maybe a low loan fee for donny or a brandon williams loan with us selling 1-2 youngsters might be the way ahead to us getting amrabat.
I just hope he doesn't end up selling hannibal, i see a player there but we all liked kovar yet ETH sold him. Same with iqbal and garner last year.
Hannibal seems to be the most sellable player, Pellistri could be another.

He’s an excellent 5th choice centre half. No drama if he wants to stay and fight it out to get a place.

I think any hope of more outs has gone as those mentioned above are now staying. With that being the case I’d say we are most likely done. We really need midfield reinforcements but they don’t look likely so I’m not sure where that leaves us. Mctominay and cas are our only 2 cdm options and if we play both we have nothing in reserve.

4.) 15 Aug 2023
15 Aug 2023 20:35:56
Eric79 he doesn't suit our play and he continually makes errors leading to goals conceded (worst in league by a distance) . Also he's a constant distraction.

15 Aug 2023 20:37:29
Was to be expected, after all the Glazers have set the tone of hanging around the club, even though they aren't wanted.

Maybe if Southgate told him his place in the England team was under threat unless he played regularly, but somehow I think even that won't shift him now.

Can't help but feel this a big FU to United after he had the captaincy removed and was demoted to 5th choice CB. At least there is space on that golf cart for him now Phil Jones has gone.

6.) 15 Aug 2023
15 Aug 2023 21:56:48
He’s 5th DonRed and for good reason. If an England international wants to hang around for league cup games and injuries, then that’s cool with me. He’s a more than able back up.

7.) 15 Aug 2023
15 Aug 2023 21:59:20
My immediate concerns are midfield and attack. We need to announce the Greenwood decision either way and get him back in or ship him out and get reinforcements. We are desperate for a DM too, unless McT can be properly coached into the role as back up whilst Mainoo gets fit.

8.) 15 Aug 2023
15 Aug 2023 22:48:21
On greenwood Eric, looks like the decision will be announced after the window shuts so he’s coming back that’s a guarantee. The storm will surely follow soon after.

Storm? he hasn't been found guilty . Move on.

10.) 16 Aug 2023
16 Aug 2023 07:12:14
Our new management team are doing such a great job. We start pre season without a first choice keeper. The season has started and we have not bought our DM and CB targets and we have not sold the players, who would have generated the most money.

11.) 16 Aug 2023
16 Aug 2023 07:44:44
To the above post…if you think that everyone is just going to move on with regards to greenwood then I’m sorry to tell u that won't happen. The media who already use us for clickbait will run article after article, the players will constantly be asked on it as will the manager. None of that will be positive either. Add that to how it will make certain sections of the fanbase feel and it will make for a very uncomfortable situation.

Think club has kept Maguire as unable to find suitable replacement for the right money.

Think they don’t want to commit their limited funds to midfield rather than average CB, which will be addressed next year.

13.) 16 Aug 2023
16 Aug 2023 08:39:54
It’s a fair point Wallace. The Pavard rumours to replace Maguire were hardly inspiring, and it’s down to ETH and his coaching team now to get the best out of Maguire, McTominay, Hannibal and Mainoo if all are staying to suit the team.
We all have such desperate need for shiny new toys, when the art of football coaching is also to vastly improve who we have in our ranks. We are not title contenders this season, so filling the squad with more ok players makes no sense. I rather admire Chelsea’s approach of buying in top youth talent to mould a new long term project and team. Their midfield of Enzo, Caicedo and Lavia is built for years.

16 Aug 2023 08:47:18
still think maguire will go at the end of the window: looking at the facts he'd be stupid not to? Its rumoured southgate has stated he needs to play in order to be considered for england next summer and even if he feels let down by eth and utd he won't want to sacrifice what would likely be his last international tournament. West ham may move on but there are still the possibilty of other epl clubs everton eg and i wouldn't rule out a last minute try by newcastle. Donny is a difficult one has he was both injured and not picked, williams would represent good value to a lot of clubs and henderson and mctominay will bring in decent fees for 26 year olds who will struggle for minutes. Still think we'll end up with 2 in amrabat or onana and cb -not sure on pavard though he is capable of playing a couple of positions . loads of deals to be done yet : still a fornite to go.

15.) 16 Aug 2023
16 Aug 2023 11:00:45
Maguire was always a closed loop. He would need replacing, so it was a one out, one in situation. His book value is reported to be about £26m, so selling him for £30m would've barely raised any cash - especially with the mooted pay off considered. As a fourth/ fifth choice CB he's more than adequate, and there's not a plethora of enticing options elsewhere to replace him. Let him warm the bench and focus on CB and RB next year.

16.) 16 Aug 2023
16 Aug 2023 11:19:36
I can't see us paying 40 million for Pavard with his contract up in 12 months. Bayern are notoriously a difficult/ arrogant club to deal with.

If the reports of the player wanting out no matter are true, I think we may end up getting him on a free next year or a significantly lower fee around the window closing.

I don't understand the Ambrabat delay and hope its not tied to DVB. DVB has shown nothing in his time at United or his loan spell to warrant a lot of interest. Add his knee injury, its one of those players that I suspect is hard to shift and we should take the bullet and move him.

Andy Cole said something during a conversation I had with him after the FA cup final, which made a lot of sense.

In his view as a first team player once you get loaned out that's the end of you at United and not good enough and surplus. He even went on to say the academy players who go on loan, mostly not good enough and rare thing to come back and make it.

Same conversation, I asked his opinion on who has caught his eye from the young players in the league and he mentioned Olise from palace.

17.) 16 Aug 2023
16 Aug 2023 13:45:56
I doubt very much Utd have had anything to do with him staying other than not being able to agree the pay-off. No way do they want a Sherman tank on a billion notes a year sitting in the wings as fifth choice.

Maguire wants us to pay him to leave, makes little sense us selling him cheap and paying him to leave. Let him lose his england squad place and he will be begging to leave in January.

You overestimate the england stuff. Money talks and most of these guys i have met whilst have a club color etc etc but always go where the money is especially at his age. Human nature, we are brave and idealist when we are young, we get wiser and conservative as we get older.

22.) 16 Aug 2023
16 Aug 2023 22:35:30
He has a contract. Why should he not be paid off its his entitlement? He is not looking for the full value.
Nobody I know who's away from 20m plus that they are entitled to. I suspect he is looking for the difference between his current contract value and his potential new one at a new club.
That's sounds most reasonable to me.
Please stand up and tell me which of you would walk away from 20m that you are contrated to earn?

23.) 16 Aug 2023
16 Aug 2023 23:16:51
Ahmad he has millions already. not like he's having to move away and play for free. Even if he gets 100k a week that's 5.2 mill a year. He's not wanted by most of us fans and he gets booed everytime he plays, if I was were him I'd move and play some football, get to play for England at a euros and get away from the abuse.

24.) 17 Aug 2023
17 Aug 2023 00:02:28
Lawman, we have to make up some of the difference. Not why not harry take a knock. And even WH pay him a signing bonus to share the cost around? It is at least worth the negotiation.

It won't be fun for harry to call our bluff and stay.

Don't feel too bad for him, he was never worth that much money in the first place.

Tim99, there will be a small minority who will continue to make something of a nothing situation.
DV is no laughing matter, but it exists. As does something like drink driving with professional footballers. I would argue that drink driving is a worse offence because the offender is unknowingly putting innocent parties at risk.
Greenwood's missus has taken back Greenwood, that is her choice, let them get on with it.

Danny C

The more they have the more they want. People get locked into a certain lifestyle and income. Playing for Westham at half the wage is a step backwards. only way to get him out is to pay him.

Look at all these guys going to Saudi. They are earning good money already and millionaires but trade in lifestyle and careers for pay.

Thanks Shappy, really appreciate your support.
The point is this, leave the young family alone, let them get on with it.
Or are we as a society now all for breaking up a family, not the United way, I'm sure you'll agree.
I just find it rich that the majority are joining the witch-hunt.
Or would everyone rather he was let go, and we start with Martial. I personally can look past his history to focus on the future.
People make mistakes, people forgive, people move on.
Life is a complex tapestry.

Jimbob, I was utterly stunned by your approach to try and down play the seriousness of domestic violence by throwing a random opinion that in your mind drink driving is worse

Firstly, placing a subjective idea about which criminal act is worse in an attempt to reduce the seriousness of another is utterly dumbfounding to me. It comes across as nothing more than an admission that you don't find domestic violence as a serious issue.

Secondly, I'm not even sure your opinion that drink driving is a worse thing than domestic violence due to the perpetrator not knowing the potential risk they are putting others in stands up to scrutiny.
I feel uncomfortable that you refer to the victims of drink driving as "innocent" but you don't afford the same courtesy to the victims of domestic violence. In your mind are the victims of domestic violence not innocent?
Either way I'd argue that putting people at risk though the stupidity and the selfishness of drink driving is not the same as intentionally causing harm and suffering though targeted and sustained domestic abuse. I'd argue that the person who has intent to cause harm is a much worse person than the person who has unwittingly caused harm.
Finally, not every occasion of drink driving actually ends up with someone suffering. In fact I expect the vast majority of times the offense is committed no one ends up harmed either physically, emotionally or financially. You cannot say the same about domestic violence where EVERY time the offense is committed someone is made to suffer.

None of this is to suggest that drink driving is acceptable, it absolutely isn't and it destroys lives every day. Just that in my opinion someone who sets out to intentionally cause harm through domestic violence (or any crime) is a far worse human being than one who unwittingly causes harm though stupidity or selfishness.

I also think your final sentence about the his partner taking him back highlights a massive ignorance/ naivety on your part about how domestic violence affects people and their ability to make good healthy decisions.

Domestic violence doesn't just start randomly one day between two people in a relationship. Often the abuser specifically targets/ pursues a partner who has suffered past trauma, they are looking for someone that they know will be easier to manipulate and control. They then spend time breaking that person down, destroying their self-worth, making them question their ability to make decisions, making them dependent on the abuser. They do all of this well in advance of any physical abuse happening (although the entire process is abusive, manipulative and controlling) . They then make the victim feel that the abuse is their fault, that it is a result of their actions or words. If you have heard the audio clip you actually hear this happening.

This all makes it very hard for the victim to leave as they feel dependant on the abuser and that the abuse is their fault and not that of the abuser. They often get back with the abuser many times before they grow strong enough to leave for good. They also often have a child with the abuser in the hope that it will change them, that it will soften them and prove how much the victim loves the abuser.

For people like myself who have unfortunately seen abuse close up, who understands (to an extent) the impact it has on the victims, and how it continues to effect them long after the abuse has actually stopped. It makes it very concerning to me how this story has played out and the seeming danger a young lady maybe in and the lack of concern for her and her new born child.

This idea that she's taken him back so it must all be fine is very naïve, and deeply concerning to me. Too many people seem content to brush it under the carpet then actually have a difficult conversation over it. Which will sadly lead to many more victims having to suffer, as until as a society we are prepared to drag this out into the light for every to see and to actually face up to it then it will continue to fester beneath the surface of our society.

You've missed the point, and in doing so gone on yet another Shappy essay.
Both DV and DD happen, every single day. I am not saying either are acceptable, I am saying one is being targeted and the other never does. How many professional footballers have been charged with drink driving over the years? We're they stripped of their jersey and left to rot?
As for your point about not understanding DV, you are so far from the truth it doesn't warrant any further dialogue.

I don't think we should generalise or make assumotions about victims of crime. I don't think we should make assumptions or generalise about motivations about a victims deciaon in a case.

Each and every case is different, the motivations for victim and offender and the circumstance in each case are unique to that case.

These cases can be black can be white and very often are somewhere in between. I have seen people go to prison and yet can sympathise with the circumstance. I have seen a while variety of reasons for a relationship to continue and that includes positive and negatives outcomes of that relationship.

I have dealt with DV where we all had massive concerns and were scared for her and did everything we could possibly do and she was murdered. I have seen outcomes where arrest has been the best think that ever happened to the couple b.

Meant to finish with, its an emotive subject and its one that sadly will resonate on a personal level due to events in the life of a lot of people who have had in one form or another experience of a situation that is in the subject field shall we say. I do not know enough about the events to really have an informed opinion that in reality ismt based partially on prior events that for me is on professional level, i cannot be truely impartial here.

In any decsion therefore i think the opinion of fans sponsers players club come secondary. I hope that Harriet has been spoken too and her wishes and reason and thoughts are central to the outcome and that of her closest loved ones such as a parent. Because any decsion United make could be life altering, life ruining for her and her child as well, and i don't wamt to get into speculation but when you look at coldly it really could.

Great post Oak!

Finally, someone mentioning what would further suspention or ending the deal mean to her.

A lot of fans want him out, but is it the best decision for her?
