Many commentators urging for Antony to be sold. I still think that there is a player in there. I'm not sure that he can cut it in the Premiership as a winger but with his skill and creativity, I think that a more central role as a No 10 would be worth a try. It's too early to give up on him at this point. He has had a few personal problems I believe, but a player of his ability (and I hear people saying what ability) should be given a proper opportunity to make his mark.

What skill an creativity? How many times has he dribbled past a player then Put a decent cross in? You could count the amount of times on your fingers, forgetting beating more than one player, When have you seen opposition team ever having to double up on him because he is so dangerous or controlling or effecting a game? Not once.

One of worst wingers ever to come to the PL.

Antony is a victim of Utds incompetence:

Spent way too much on him and raised expectations unfairly.

Both Right Backs behind him are mid at best.

He’s been awful but still works, tracks back and presses.

Not his fault he looks like a Far Cry villain.

All that said he’s not been good enough, I personally prefer Amad and wouldn’t have signed him to give Amad time. There’s a player in Antony and best thing to do is get behind him and hope he comes good to regain some value.

On Antony, I have to ask if there is a tactical instruction, get down the right wing, get space, don’t cross with right foot, stop, turn back pass inside or try to curl in far post, concede goal kick. If there is an instruction to not cross the ball, part of the issue is with the tactical side, if he can’t cross with his right, why has that not been worked on?

It's cringeable that every pundit and fan knows exactly what Antony is going to do, let alone every opposing coach and the fullback marking him. Can't believe that he's no being coached in a way to mix it up, but it certainly does feel that way.

He’s one of the main reasons the knives came out early for ETH. The signing smacked of nepotism and incompetence. He was obviously Eric’s boy at Ajax and he made it clear that we get him at all cost. Our scouting and recruitment team have proven themselves to be completely inept over the years, but not even our recruitment team would have signed off paying what we did for Antony.

The love in with Amad I don’t get either. He needs to prove himself in the Premier league before anyone gets excited if you ask me.

Only you would think there is some sort of tactical instruction and another dig at the manager. I can recommend a good shrink mate if you believe its time:)

Ahmad

Actually it was a little bit of support for Antony, it may not be all his fault if the manager is instructing not to cross and to cut inside.

Sure your shrink has their diary full just looking after you :)

The main thrust of my initial point was not aiming to have a go at Antony. I'm well aware that he has been pretty ineffective as a winger. I feel that he could be tried in a different position to get the best out of him. To try him in the Number 10 position with a little bit of freedom, just behind the main striker, may well be an option. Wingers are dependent on good service from others. He hasn't had good service or support. I do not think we should give up on him just yet. Our club is not a regular club. Players and indeed managers have to hit the ground running when they join or there are calls for their immediate exit. It seems that we do not have the patience to allow a settling in period. We have to remember that many are arriving from a different culture.

Redman,

I agree with you.

Perhaps Anthony has been getting prolonged first team action due to injuries and even being a managers favourite. He does track back etc, but can't use his right foot to save his life.

Surely EtH and the coaches would have spent time on him developing the use of his right foot, or at least worked it out at Ajax that he is soley one footed and can't cross.

Antony is a skilful player but he is not cut out for the epl imo. He reacts badly to any physicality he is too emotional and doesn't play at all with a smile on his face.
The move to united has not gone well for him he has been besieged with personal problems he is not coping well on the pitch and all the personal pressure must be coming down on him like a tonne of bricks.
I really feel for the las he is certainly not showing his best.
From a supporters perspective it is frustrating as he has contributed so little.
Eth obviously feels there is more to come from him and knows him well but I think even he has become frustrated with Anthony not delivering despite his support and patience.
I think he would do a lot better in Germany or Spain but I'm pretty sure he will ever reach the heights eth obviously thought he would.
I can't think of any manager that has not stood by an obvious flop at some point.
It's been a bad buy the club will have to take a big hit on the books on Anthony along with sancho, and casimero and probably onana in particular and I think that the new management will take a more pragmatic view on these hits and look to move them on soonest. It will require some very good negotiations to minimise the impact.

Its a ridiculous idea to think eth has instructed him not to cross or get down the line. it might have to do with the player having no right foot and on the pitch you have split seconds to decide what you are going to do and human nature generally forces you to do what you are comfortable doing.

You like to believe or see all kinds of weird things in everything. What you like to think is logic is so illogical across many subjects. I do like my shrink and he has his hands full with me:)

I don't think it's a surprise that ETH would want a player he has worked with previously to support the system he wants to play. I think ETH misjudged the Premier League and where there is a lack of guidance and support from people above like a Paul Mitchell or Dan Ashworth to maybe look at other players who would suit the Premier League better, they twiddled their fingers when they could have got Anthony for £40M or so and then panicked and got done by Ajax resulting in a large transfer fee which has lead to increased criticism on Anthony's performances and finger pointing at ETH.

I'd like to see him on the left more. He could be an alternative to Rashford.

Leave Garnacho on the right, hope that Amad can offer decent back up and hopefully we can sort out the RB situation.

I just feel like, when I watch Antony, the weight of the world is on his shoulders.

Hard to see a player who is good enough to play in a top team in top competitions. If he is being instructed to slow the game up (which I strongly doubt), and come back inside, rather than ever try to beat the full back on the outside and put in a cross, if only to vary what he does, it's because the manager is acknowledging he doesn't have those combined abilities in his skill set. He's better with his left foot but he's still woefully inaccurate when it comes to both shooting and crossing. Besides that, while he does have som initial pace, his top speed doesn't;t seem to me to be anything more than average, which means that even if he beats a man, he gets caught back up. He does work hard, but that's not enough. Working hard should be a given.

He's not a kid either, he's 23. If he's really anywhere close to £85m talented he should be showing strong signs of it by now. Bad error of judgment by Ten Hag, and the sign of incompetent management to be suckered into paying so much for him To date he scarcely justifies a £20m price tag.

Antony isn't an awful player, he just isn't a great one.

He's a player that needs to play with better players to elevate him, he isn't the kind of player who makes others better or who can carry responsibility.

He was never worth half of what we paid, I said similar at the time of his signing.

It was a situation where we left it late in the window, had no other well scouted alternatives, or at least none that were still available on the market, all while Ajax had lost their manager, and half a dozen other key first team players.

It was a perfect storm where Ajax refused to sell unless someone paid well above his value, and we were the mugs prepared to do that.

Bayern were reportedly interested in him, but walked away when the deal rose above 35m. Which is what a well run club does.

I suspect we'll be stuck with him for another season or two before we can move him on. Due to his wages and transfer fee I doubt we can afford to take the hit on selling him as it'll negatively impact what we can spend via FFP.

So he'll likely be a squad player for a season or so before we see him slope out the backdoor.

I actually feel sorry for the lad. No doubt he's getting well paid, and I expect most of us would gladly trade places with him. Yet he doesn't deserve the hate he gets.

He gets a lot of stick for simply not being good enough. Look around our squad, there are plenty who aren't good enough, yet Antony gets far more stick than most. And for something he can't do much about as well.

{Ed025's Note - your right Shappy its not his fault, but lets be honest mate....hes absolutely garbage..
