Any truth in the rumour we’ve bid somewhere in the region of €8/ 9 million for Marko Arnautovic?

Struggling with this one of true, both in terms of quality and attitude. Again at the price would reinforce my theory we aren’t exactly flush.

{Ed002's Note - I would need to check.}

1.) 07 Aug 2022 12:15:36
Seem to remember him being a prima dona at West Ham and Hammers fans hated him.

2.) 07 Aug 2022 12:24:01
He has just one goal less than Osimhem.

3.) 07 Aug 2022 12:58:09
Old, difficult, banned for racism.

No thanks.

4.) 07 Aug 2022 16:54:50
Ok. If all are crying NO. It means United would certainly after it. and make a face like they have got a world beater.

5.) 07 Aug 2022 21:35:55
Reports that a bid has been rejected for him. Hope that ends our interest because he is an awful signing and reinforces the view that we are going in circles.

Stick one of the academy players on the bench rather than a hasbeen with questionable views.

6.) 07 Aug 2022 22:38:36
The more I think about it the worse it gets.

Seeing as this is a rumour forum……

Fabrizio Romano has been quoted today, saying FDJ to United is “absolutely on” despite what negative spin has been quoted about the move this last week.

{Ed014's Note - a Chelsea poster has just asked ed02 if they have any interest, might be worth checking out their rumour page and see if he’s replied yet. I held it back for him earlier.

1.) 03 Jul 2022 19:23:04
was that the one in the discussion page?

2.) 03 Jul 2022 19:30:11

Are you happy with Arsenal's transfer activity during the transfer window?

{Ed014's Note - no mate I’m not.

3.) 03 Jul 2022 19:53:01
We need to move away from de Jong. He’s not interested.

4.) 03 Jul 2022 21:17:07

At least Arsenal have signed players. It might be Utd and Arsenal fighting over 5th place this season.

{Ed014's Note - we have mate but we need more and it doesn’t look like Xhaka is going anywhere which is a massive disappointment.

I don’t like us being linked with Martinez either when we have Saliba with rumours the club would let him go, mental!

Would really have liked to see Potter in instead of Arteta too.

That’s a big might too mate. Your coach has his work cut out that’s for sure.

5.) 03 Jul 2022 21:28:05
Is feeling more and more that it’ll be 2-3 players maximum and work with what he has at Utd with an emphasis on coaching the current crop and integrating the promising youth team. Fine by me if it means we don’t buy overpaid and average players or 33+ year old looking for final pay cheques.

6.) 03 Jul 2022 21:51:34
Ed002’s response was to read the posts ?.

{Ed014's Note - ???brilliant!

7.) 03 Jul 2022 22:02:19

I'm an optimist. Fortunately for EtH he has had a few players leave which might make things easier for him.

I was hoping this ridiculous Barcelona rumours regarding Maguire were true.

Although Chelsea don't look in great shape, having lost a few players this summer. They need to strengthen, although they are in a far better position than Utd.

Honestly it is hard to call at the moment. Once the transfer window closes, it will make things clearer.

Potter is a great manager, he might end up taking over from Southgate.

Finally Saliba, he looks a top player from the highlights I've seen. Like Utd, Arsenal aren't run well and we equally share frustrations ove rhow the clubs are run.

{Ed014's Note - as much as our respective clubs love trying to knock all the optimism out of us we somehow manage to retain some of it mate.

I certainly don’t see any change in the top four but think 1st and 2nd will swap as will 3rd and 4th this season.

It’s a big ask for ETH and I think moving Ronaldo on will make sense but it still won’t be easy for, he seems a really decent coach but it’s a new league with some major opposition and a squad that needs a lot of work.

Potter would be wasted in the England job for me though mate.

The Saliba situation drives me nuts!

8.) 03 Jul 2022 23:28:15

I thought Spurs would have jumped at the chance eof appointing him the manager before Conte. Perhaps, as he isn't a household name, he never gets the recognition he deserves or the chance at a bug club. Although I think he will leave Brighton this season.

For EtH, there are still a few players that need moving on. I'm not fussed over Ronaldo. If he doesn't want to be here, then he must go. ETH needs players who are willing to fight and try and get back in the CL.

I think EtH will need at least 2 years to transform the club. Moving players on, who are on big wages will remain an obstacle.

{Ed014's Note - me too and was glad they didn’t but Conte isn’t a poor choice.

Hopefully if he moves it’s because Arteta has!

I can’t imagine things won’t look better from the off if he instills his style of play but it’s just the lack of quality that will initially let him down but he sure can’t be any worse than that hapless clown OGS.

9.) 04 Jul 2022 09:15:57
Personally I think only City and Liverpool are guaranteed top four and they will be the top two teams again next season. It's just a question of who finishes top and who gets second.

Certainly at this moment in time Chelsea and Spurs looks strongest to finish 3rd and 4th.

However, Spurs are a Conte implosion away from dropping off the radar again. The guy is a great manager without a shadow of a doubt, but I don't think there is a more temperamental manager in the EPL. He's the kind of character that if Levy gives him a funny look he'll just resign.

If Spurs continue with what looks to be excellent recruitment, they all assimilate well with the existing players, and Conte doesn't throw a wobbly then Spurs should make top four. However, grasping defeat from the jaws of victory is a typically Spursy thing to do, so I don't have them as a shoe-in.

Chelsea seems to be making some strange moves in the market currently. Half their defence have left yet they seem to want to sign nothing but wingers and forwards. There is obviously time in the window yet to sign a couple of CB's that they need, otherwise they will be overly reliant on the soon to be 38 year old legs of Thiago Silva.

While the depth at wingback is a concern, they will lose Alonso and Azpiliqueta this summer, so who covers James and Chilwell when they need a rest or if they are injured/ suspended next season?

I also feel they need a CM. Kante is struggling to stay fit which leaves Barkley and Loftus-Cheek as the only real rotation options to Jorginho and Kovacic. Both of whom have picked up niggling injuries themselves throughout last season.

Gallagher looks a great player for them, but playing him with more defensive responsibility in the midfielder two could restrict some of his best abilities (breaking forward, shooting and creating chances in the final third) . It'll be interesting to see how he fits into this Chelsea team and if he does and thrives he could be a big player for them.

Raphinha and Sterling improve their wide options, but do both start ahead of Mount? While Werner as the only alternative to Havertz through the middle doesn't look good enough.

On the surface they seem to have a decent squad, but scratch a little deeper and there are clear issues or at least potential issues for Tuchel next season.

Speaking of Tuchel, can anyone say he has improved Chelsea? He had a great impact when he first joined that carried them to a UCL win. Yet personally I feel like Chelsea have regressed under him. They spent over 100m on Lukaku last summer only to send him back to Inter this summer for an 8m loan fee.

While they seem to be insistent this summer at chasing wide players when they have serious issues in defence. Will they make the right signings this year or repeat mistakes like last summer?

I wouldn't be surprised if Tuchel is sacked by Christmas, then their season would very much depend on who they get in to replace him.

Lots of upheaval behind the scenes with Abramovic leaving and several key people being replaced. How quickly the new regime settles and gets a grasp of everything will be key in how Chelsea perform next season.

Personally I think they are most at risk of dropping out of the top four.

I'd be stunned if BOTH Conte and Tuchel make it to the end of the season.

So I think there will be opportunities for both United and Arsenal to make a push and claim a top four place. Yet both clubs have a lot to do to elevate themselves to a good enough standard to make that push. Yet I think for both United and Arsenal fans there is plenty of reason to go into the season full of hope.

10.) 04 Jul 2022 09:31:32

I agree, hapless ole the clown, but he left the rest of the circus behind haha.

{Ed014's Note - he sure did mate, how he got away with for so long was incredible.

11.) 04 Jul 2022 12:10:52
Ed014, is the saliba issue not more about Saliba wanting to leave? That's what I gathered from ed002s posts. He wants to go. Cracking player.

{Ed014's Note - Partly but the club are open to him leaving which is down to that idiot Arteta biting off his nose to spite his face!

No manager in their right mind would let a player of that potential leave.

12.) 04 Jul 2022 17:50:55
Chelsea fan here in peace. Shappy, I think that summary is pretty spot on to be honest. I'm not a massive fan of what appears to be Tuchel's main style of play. I suppose you can't blame Chelsea managers of the past for being somewhat conservative given the previous owners' trigger finger, but we'll wait to see whether this season brings new impetus. The signings the club are being linked with now Tuchel has more input (if the media are to be believed) are indeed strange and a bit worrying, as is the fact that we seem prepared to let young talents like Maatsen and Colwill leave (see Guehi and Tomori last season) . I remember it taking Klopp a reasonably long time to get Liverpool going when he first arrived – three seasons before they started really improving, as I remember, while still being a bit of a joke for the first two, though I could be wrong on that – so there's that balance to consider. I hope the new owners are more prepared to give a coach time to imprint a style than Abramovich was; at the same time that could go the other way, a la OGS where a limited coach continues to be given too long. Tuchel did win the CL, so that counts for something, but he came in midseason, and sometimes that switch of coach can be misleading (it seems as though sometimes the move from one style to another can really benefit the players for one season or so, almost as though the combination of two coach's philosophies initially works – I'm thinking Ranieri taking over from Pearson) .

I think you lot have been very smart in snapping up Eriksen. Wonderful signing, that. I'm very interested to see how you do this year under ETH. Next year seems more realistic for making a push back towards the real heights though. Spurs are making some real moves in the transfer market, so Levi clearly understands he's under pressure to keep Conte happy. It's the one thing that does keep Conte happy. Probably my favourite Chelsea manager of the Abramovich era, apart from Ancelotti. It could all end in tears but it's massive fun on the way. They could be real challengers this year – probably for third place and a cup rather than the league. Or they could absolutely derail. I don't think Arsenal have enough defensively to be in there, but if they hadn't had that shocking run at the start of last season. letting Saliba go just seems nuts. Wonder if Chelsea have enquired after him. All in all it's to be a very interesting season, but probably not in terms of challenging for the PL from either of our clubs!

18 Jan 2022 13:36:44
Heard Pogba in advanced talks with PSG, anyone shed any light on this?

1.) 18 Jan 2022 13:52:38
Please take him in January.
If it was me, I'd pay off his 6 months money and cancel the contract.

Same with that JLingz and Mata. Or loan them out with the other club paying their wages or most wages for the next 6 months.

Having players causing problems or players that don't start is something I thoroughly despise.

2.) 18 Jan 2022 18:10:07
Agreed. Time for him to go and give Donny the games. Can’t be any worse.

3.) 18 Jan 2022 21:47:31
Good god that psg dressing room will need the doors widened for sure…trying to fit all those big heads and egos in will be interesting.

4.) 19 Jan 2022 08:37:35
PSG is probably a good fit for him. He can half arse it and play the Hollywood balls and still win the league. While PSG will no doubt want an "important" french player to replace Mbappe as the face of the Paris based club.

5.) 19 Jan 2022 10:18:24
Considering our "Brazilian" CM can't control the football, the Scottish CM hides from the football, the Serbian CM moves slower than Prince Phillip in his current state and the Dutch CM is being bullied in the workplace, the least of our problems is Paul Pogba over the next 6 months.

Moonwalks back into the team on one leg at the moment.

6.) 19 Jan 2022 11:07:23
give him my number i'll happily drive him myself.

7.) 19 Jan 2022 14:39:22
Pogba moonwalks into our team? Ironic cause that’s all he does on the pitch. Showboat with no substance. I’ll take the Brazilian with 5 goal contributions in his last 6 games who actually presses and wins the ball every time. And the Scottish CM who hides but tries to defend. O.

8.) 19 Jan 2022 17:31:13
I would certainly get rid of Pogba, VDB, Fred and and Matic.
They are all sh*t!
Gert what money you can for them and buy 2-3 midfielders and promote Garner and Hannibal.
Keep Mctominay for back up.

9.) 19 Jan 2022 19:08:40
Pogba, Neymar, Mbappe, Messi, that's going to be one hard working team.

10.) 19 Jan 2022 22:36:42
As I say again, keep Pogba away from this team. Rather see Fred and Scott work every day til we get some new signings.

11.) 20 Jan 2022 19:08:39
Fully expect Pogba to come back, play world class football for 3 months, win the CL for us, then disappear off to Europe on a salary comparable to the GDP of a small nation. Football, bloody hell.

Like most fans I’ve been scratching my head about why things have gone pear shaped for us. I look at the squad and there’s a lot of players in there that shouldn’t be. But there’s some quality too, and enough quality to put up much better performances than we’ve recently seen.

I’m no sports scientist and there are obviously more learned fitness staff at United than me (I hope! ) But to me, the abject performances look like they are linked to fitness. Just my personal opinion, but I don’t think the majority of the players are fit. It was a bit tongue in cheek, but Hassenhutl’s comments probably ring true to a certain degree and that could tie in with a lack of fitness.

Obviously they are trained to the data, and everything is monitored as you’d expect for elite athletes, but compared to other more ‘average’ sides (which we are fast becoming) there doesn’t seem to be a comparison on fitness. A lot of the mistakes will come from tiredness, and maybe in recent games where we’ve took the lead and looked relatively commanding……we expend too much energy, can’t sustain it, and thus end up conceding. We’ll never be privy to the data, but I reckon our players are way behind in the fitness stakes compared to other sides.

Maybe Ole’s pre-season wasn’t up to much and rumblings about Ralf’s ‘old fashioned’ methods are because he’s beasting ‘em and they don’t like it. You can criticise that approach all you like, but any athlete needs a base fitness, and I don’t think our lot have it. Just an observation.

1.) 14 Feb 2022 09:19:27
I must largely agree with you.
It's no longer any good being averagely fit to play PL football.
At any club you must literally be struggling to get off the pitch at the end of the game. I used to play 5 a side with mates every Sunday lunchtime and I remember taking 5 mins to really get my breath back. To see people walking or jogging off the pitch is a joke to me no matter who they play for.

25 Nov 2021 07:19:20
Having watched that last night, I can’t say I’m massively overwhelmed at the prospect of Poch coming to Old Trafford. Obviously it’s only a snapshot, but I didn’t think PSG were up to it tactically and some of that surely rests on the managers doorstep. First half they got schooled like we did against City. If Pochetino is this managerial genius that we all think…. and with the resources he has, surely you’d expect a better performance/ result.

Ten Hag on the other hand takes his side to Turkey, which is notoriously difficult, and comes away with the spoils which makes them unbeaten on 15 points.

That coupled with them sat on top of their domestic table, which I’d argue is a more competitive league than in France. Plus their goal difference stats are incredible.

I know which way I’d be going…….

1.) 25 Nov 2021 08:45:25
Lets just abduct the man and gag him and bring him to OT then. ??.

2.) 25 Nov 2021 09:13:20
I felt sorry for Poch last night.
Sat there having to watch them three lazy gits (Messi, Neymar and Mbappe) walking around like it was a training match.
Technically they were playing with 7 out field players.
Messi was especially embarrassing walking around like he didn't give a s*it.

{Ed014's Note - bit like Pogba then?

3.) 25 Nov 2021 09:29:14
Agree with their front three. You could probably argue that all three don’t even want to be there.

Special mention for Neymar…. will probably get shot down in flames. But he’s the most overrated player in world football. Yeah, he’s got touches of genius, but he’s never been at Ronny or Messi’s level. And his work ethic is atrocious (sounds familiar) wouldn’t entertain him at OT for love nor money.

4.) 25 Nov 2021 09:29:41
Personally I think EtH is a better manager than Pochettino and has more potential.

However, it's a little unfair to judge a performance by one side that has had their manager in place for several years, that have been built around his philosophy and his ideas playing against a team that will struggle to make it into the Europa League, to that of a manager who has been in his current job only 10 months, where he doesn't choose the signings, and is forced to try and fit certain players into his team, while playing away to one of the favourites to win the UCL.

The two situations are totally incomparable.

The way Pochettino likes to play with hard working players who press from the front has been totally challenged by HAVING to play Neymar, Messi and Mbappe up front most of the time. Meaning he has to set the over 7 players up to try and balance out the side and do the work the front three won't.

There are valid reasons why Pochettino would happily jump ship from a star studded squad that is guaranteed to win things and into the viper nest that is the Old Trafford hot seat.

5.) 25 Nov 2021 09:29:34
Good call Ed014.

{Ed014's Note - can you imagine if Pogba goes to PSG, all 4 of them walking chatting on the half way line while the rest of the team are being run ragged! ?

6.) 25 Nov 2021 10:39:17
Totally agree Ed014. When you talk about overrated players the first player that comes to mind is Paul Pogba.

7.) 25 Nov 2021 10:43:36
So funny people judging Poch purely on last night, absolutely insane in fact.

They beat City just a few weeks ago and they were a Neymar missed easy chance away from going 2-1 ahead last night.

Considering the front 3 can't be bothered he's 11 points clear in the league and qualified comfortably for the knockouts of the CL, perhaps need to look at more than 1 match.

8.) 25 Nov 2021 11:12:00
GDS2 i can't clap on here or i would.

they didn't just beat city a few weeks ago they "schooled them as someone put above"

Bolger2……exactly what I was thinking. Stick decent bids in for FDJ knowing full well he wants to stay where he is. Also stick a bid in for Anthony knowing full well it’s 20 million below their valuation. Gives the impression everything is hunky dory to shareholders. The club is skint in my view. The fees for Martinez and Malacia were offset by sales (albeit minimally) and would have been lumped on the debt anyway. No sign of the Glazers investing any of their own cash that’s for sure. And for the record, signing Arnautovic is a complete joke.

Rabiot I can just about get my head round. Although he’s moody and far from what we need. Arnautovic I’m literally dumbfounded. I reckon he must think all his Christmases have come at once. He’s nothing special and won’t be the kind of player to dig out blind for you, he’s also got dubious morals and he isn’t what we need at Old Trafford. I actually can’t believe we’re in for a player like him…………. panic and desperation spring to mind. We haven’t learnt a thing over the last 10 years. And I don’t care if ETH wants him or not. I’ve got eyes as have other fans, and he isn’t what we need.

The proof is in the pudding of what we’ve actually spent. We’ve invested in Martinez and Malacia which has been offset slightly by sales. That’s it.

Judging by the calibre of player we are looking at, I insist that there are limited funds available. The club has been bled dry by the Glazers.

Please buy these idiots out Mr Ratcliffe.

That’s true. The calibre of players we are now being linked with is desperate to say the least. Shows how far we’ve fallen. Maguire is the most costly mistake we’ve made in a long time, he’s simply terrible. Made his name playing for England playing poor sides. There’s better centre halves at the club, it just needs some bravery to try a few different partnerships out.
Fred is not capable of running a midfield, same as McTominay. Not knocking their efforts, but they just aren’t good enough in terms of ball retention and awareness.
