Due to a fortunate coincidence I'll be flying into Manchester just in time to watch the friendly with Lens on Saturday.

From what I've been told the club are intentionally holding off the announcement until that game to try and make it into a big occasion. They are looking to try and bring him on and introduce him to the fans either before the game or at halftime.
I've also been told that to expect to hear about Greenwood staying with the club on Saturday. The club are hoping to bury the news with the announcement of Højlund hoping to distract the media and fans and allow Greenwood back in through the backdoor quietly and without a fuss.

If that is the case then I actually feel pretty mixed about going to the game.

I am okay with Greenwood coming back and if true and he recaptures his old form, boy do we have an exciting combination of players who can play on top. I deserve to get grief for my views on Greenwood and maybe clouded by what certain players who know a bit more about the whole thing have said to me.

Says more about you Ahmad being okay with it. Because I definitely am not. Should be finished as a footballer.

We have no control over it, so what we do is either support the club as usual or walk away I guess.

We heard and saw what came out, which looked horrific, and if she was one of my daughters and it was as it seemed, she wouldn’t have been with him now, and once the police ended the investigation I would have come out as a father and told the world exactly what happened. I would like to believe that her dad and family would feel the same, so maybe we don’t have all of the details I guess.

The young lady has decided to move on with her/ their life, as a couple and now with a child. If that has been done for the correct reasons for her, then there is no reason that he shouldn’t now continue his career. He now needs to grow up very fast and repay her a million times over, and if he stays he has to do the same for the club who have continued to pay him since it all began.

He will continue to be a footballer somewhere, so maybe it is best for his young family, and him, that it continues here where everyone knows him so well, she is close to her family and friends and can ensure that there are no issues. This isn’t a behind closed doors thing, like so many poor women and men have to deal with alone, it was played out to the whole world from the beginning, and she must have had all of the support in the world to walk away and start again and prosecute him to the fullest. She, and her loved ones I would assume, have decided not to do either, we have to accept that, and hope that she has all of the help and support needed going forward.

He is in last chance saloon in both his football and personal lives. I hope he grasps the chances he has been given and repays his young family first and foremost.

Greenwood has been with Man Utd since he was 6 years old. He is part of our family and that means we have a responsibility to him. He behaved appallingly by all accounts but that does not mean to say he has to be an habitual abuser or that he is irredeemable. He should absolutely be given a last chance ---- and my guess is if that's what happens then it's been cleared with Adidas already.

I just don't see the point in him continuing at United. I don't think his life should be over, but I don't think the club should be entertaining the idea of playing him again. Pay off the remainder of his contract and let him find a new club.

Irregardless of talent, the club and more importantly the team are on an upward trajectory. We don't need the headache of introducing him back into the fold, we don't need the negativity that will inevitably come with him and it would make a good statement to all our fans that we have a line that shouldn't be crossed.

We've heard the audio and seen the photos. I'm not advocating he goes into exile but he shouldn't be Uniteds problem.

Angelred

Fair enough but not okay with what he supposedly did.

Wazza

Whether you believe it or not its true and they paint a different picture with some of what's being reported but not all is as what's being said. Maybe its just players sticking up for each other.

People make mistakes and some horrible ones but as a society you can't just discard people forever. Young people do so many stupid things that when you are older and think back you wonder where was my head and not talking about stuff like this.

I went to a very exclusive boarding school in the UK when I was very young and got bullied for 4 years non stop for my race. Got lumps kicked out of me by my own football team mates in practice by pure malice but showed up the next day again and again. I hold no ill feelings towards those boys and just put it down to being young, immature and stupid and hope they are better people today. That's me no grudges in life.

I'll welcome Mason back with open arms, can't come a moment too soon.
Charges have been dropped, he's had a kid with the same girl.
He deserves a chance, he's a kid.
Come down from your ivory towers.

Very conflicted and mixed feelings about Greenwood returning.

Initially very angry at him for tapes of implied domestic abuse and didn’t want him anywhere near the club but, over time, I think I’m open to the idea of him staying but going on loan to recapture form then come back and be sold. Know he’s been cleared of charges but would help to know what really happened also.

Maybe the inner Christian in me is reminding me about the idea of forgiveness, so I think MG would need to give a heartfelt and sincere apology first and seek redemption by doing all he can to support domestic violence charities and raising awareness against it.

At the end of the day Brendan81 said it right; it is out of our control. I will support the team regardless of the decision they make. Do I have to agree with the decision? Absolutely not, but I will support the club until then end. The only thing I would say is that I feel he should be loaned for a season to qualm the storm that is inevitably coming from opposing and our own home fans.

My personal opinion is that he and his partner are young and if she accepted him back / charges dropped, then it is their life decision to make.

11.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 15:13:00
I don't have any kids but if this happened to any of your daughters, I think the vast majority would have a different opinion.

He should be sent away from the club and allowed to pursue his career at whatever club is willing to take him.

12.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 15:19:53
I don't care for a press or public opportunity, i don't care for him rehabilitating his public image or profile, it doesn't mean a thing, its just what his agent, press agent and spin doctors can orchestrate. I don't need to see what a Max Clifford or Alastair Campbell type can weave with their dark arts.

The only thing that matters is Greenwood is behaving now to his GF and child. He is a very lucky young man to have them both in his life and he best be doing everything in his power to making amends to her, their child and her family.

13.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 15:37:17
The reality is that we don't and probably never will have all the information. So all we can do is use common sense.

The hasn't been cleared of all charges, the police dropped them due to the available evidence not meeting the threshold for the CPS to consider there a reasonable chance of prosecution. That's a big difference, especially when the lack of evidence comes from the young woman refusing to provide evidence against a man she still loves and was carrying his child.

The fact that he breached his bail conditions to make contact with her suggests a flagrant disregard for the law.

Now just decide which is the more likely scenario.

An abused woman gets back with her abusive partner and even has a child with him in the hope that it will change him. While from his perspective it's the best way to try and suggest nothing has happened, and potentially even continue an abusive relationship.

Or

A wrongly accused man, who has had his reputation ruined, his career put at serious threat, and has had to deal with this "false" accusation in the media out in public. Would the. Choose to take back the person who did that to him, and even have a child with her?

I can assured you if someone had wrongly accused me, attempted to get me put in prison, dragged my name through the mud publicly, damage s my career and reputation, and probably caused untold hurt to my family I would not even entertain the idea of getting back with them.

Would you? So why has Mason taken her back?

14.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 13:59:21
I don’t like Mason, I think he’s horrid based on what is out there. However, many before him have been accused and I’d urge everyone to look into CR7’s statement with police and no one batted an eyelid to it.

Unfortunately football is and always will be business.

03 Aug 2023 14:03:44
Shappy,

What you've "been told" was in the Manchester Evening News this morning.
What you were supposedly told a few days ago was also in the newspaper.

I've been posting on here with you for the better part of 15 years mate, let's not pretend you've turned into Ed002 overnight.

I think it's a safe bet Hojlund gets introduced to the fans on Saturday, just as we did with Casemiro last August, and as other clubs have done for years with new signings.

16.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 14:07:15
I thinknot comes down to a few things.

Is he remorseful and does he realise what he did was unacceptable?

Is he truly wanting to make amends and be a better person?

How do his teammates feel about the situation?

Most importantly, how does ETH feel about him?

It's not a pleasant situation and the fact the complainant has since had his child and they are seemingly reconciled is a factor. That doesn't mean everything is ok now, only they know what that relationship is like. But she must have been in a very bad place for the police to have become involved and for him to be charged.

17.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 16:00:59
Rosspique, he's not a kid, give over.

Shaw, who's the 'we' here? Because he's not part of my family.

I have a daughter, so I don't care what is this or that. Heard the tapes, cut him out of the club, and get rid.

18.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 16:13:09
Greenwood was charged by the CPS, only they can nake those decision for these offences and it is done by a special-ist Rape and Serious Sexual Offemces lawyer who likely had prior kniwledge of the case.

The CPS then decided to halt proceedings before trial. They have a dzty to review cases up to Court and revaluate the case as more inform.

19.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 16:28:18
Sent to early.

The have a dity to reevaluate cases as it develoos. I have seem them halt trials at the very last second for a number of reasons.

As for why the relatio shio has resumed. We can only speculate bit i offer this from exoerience. The overwhelming reason that relatio shios resume is love. My experience of these relatii shios is that they are rarely black and white.

As a white english male in his 40s with my work background i don't judge them by what i think i would think in the circumstance i can't possibly relate.

As for the offenders in these cases. I have seen those who promise the earth to change and never do. I have seen those who repeat this to woman after woman. I have seen those go to prison for such matters, get released the relatio shio resumes and they carry on and i ha e seen those who are ashamed for what they have done and kill themselves. I have also known those who never reoeat their actions again. I don't know him, i do kniw he will have motivation and support to ensure its never repeated that most won't have.

20.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 16:37:14
Fair comment AJH, but it may also be the case that because MG is a high profile public figure the police felt more obliged to act than they would otherwise. I'd bet there are 1000s of reports of equally or even worse domestic violence cases that never get prosecuted.

If it was my daughter who was abused I would have been raging and would, at best, always remain extremely skeptical about the relationship. However a baby changes things. How is he dealing with this new person to whom he's a father? Her parents will have a good idea whether he's a changed man. One hopes and imagines that United interviewed them as part of the investigation. If they are ready to welcome him back into their family then so should we.

21.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 16:56:02
Well this is all very exciting, again :D
I initially thought Utd might loan Greenwood out, gauge the reaction from fans etc and gradually bed him back in.
Looks like they're doing the opposite now, starting with him here with maybe. a few to send him out if it gets a bit grim. Which it will be.
Of course there's still time for him to be loaned out before the season starts, maybe Shappy has heard something lol.

Nothing like an online Kangaroo court to dish out justice. I think this topic should be banned from the site.

23.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 16:59:34
You are right that most sexual offences and domestic offences do not result in charges. To put it bluntly its because most of them are one word against another without supporting evidence (say CCTV or forensics)

MG wasnt charged because he was a footballer. He was charged because there was something in this case that supported the allegation that doesn't normally exist.

24.) 03 Aug 2023
03 Aug 2023 17:39:47
Shaw, you and this family thing, . Not our family, it's a football club.

He's a little (can't say on here) mad the straw man arguments that are being made and the defense of the indefensible.

A baby changes things, lol, maybe for a short time, but leopards never change their spots.

I appreciate everyone’s opinion on this, on side or another is your view and that’s fine. For me I just can’t have him back at the club, rebuild your life, have a career, mend your relationships etc and hopefully mason and his family can have a happy life. But as for being at the biggest sporting icon in the world sorry that’s a no from me. I just think taking all the various personal issues aside this won't be good for the manager, players and team as a whole and the media storm it will create will become a distraction nobody needs. I know some won’t care about my next point but is it good for masons own mental health? he will be subject to the most vitriolic abuse and I just think the club should factor that in. The sample size of this site shows how decisive this subject is and it will split the fanbase hugely so why do it?! Maybe it’s a rather cynical distraction from the ongoing glazer sale, maybe it’s a financial decision but I would implore the club if they are for bringing him back now, to reconsider as I think it’s liable to blow up in everyone’s faces.

26.) 03 Aug 2023

Angelred. I wouldn't make the family argument for an incoming transfer of a grown up, but in the case of a young player who has been with the club since he was 6 years old, Man Utd has a far greater responsibility. Sadly we seem to be crap at it, so we end up with young players who go iff the rails. Ravel Morrison springs to mind.

Football clubs are all about family/ tribe.

As for leopards and spots I know a load of people whose behavior in their late teens and early 20s, when their brains were still in development stage, was scarcely something to be proud of. People do grow up. Of course Mason's probably been heading footballs since he was 6 years old so the possibility of brain damage is there.

My main point is that he should be given a last chance. ETH is not going to take anything but a full buy in.

There are a lot of kids who go off the rails up and down the country, there is a lot of pros who do unbelievable stuff, this is not a United problem or a football problem it's a reflection if society.

There have been hundreds of footballers arrested for DA. There has been EPL shoplifting and nicked for it, stealing items from the coat ro at nightclubs, dealing class A drugs from cars outside clubs, numerous rapes and sexual assaults all of which have never made it, or a Premier league player found hiding in bushes outside a school looking at children more than once!

There is a chairman who met some gangsters at a motorway service station and handed them a case full of cash to clear a players gambling debts!

I have a lot more examples, but don't think the clubs don't do anything to stop and teach their kids they do. I know of social workers, probation officers and police officers and youth offending workers who are employed by clubs. I know od former Street gang members who do talks and visits to academies and make them aware of the realities of the street.

There is a point at which people are responsible for their own behaviour.

So who told you while your on holiday? you can stream the match there just as easy.
It would be great to see mason back
@angel I think your comments show more about you and the type of human you are.
Have you ever made a mistake? are you perfect?
You are judge and jury without any evidence.
Im glad to say most of the world has moved on from your type of attitude towards rumours.

I can remember a United legend. Loved a beer or 10. Womanizer, abused women. Did it as an adult. Multiple times and multiple women. Also had a baby. And his spots never changed. But people still see him as an idol and even have his picture as an avatar. Just saying. ?.

When he offends again, and he will, it will be interesting to see the above pro Mason posters opinions.

Like it or not it’s a changing world and the sport cannot and will not allow this kind of behaviour.

Do I think he needs a second chance, maybe. But NOT with United. We can ill afford this distraction and we have too many skeletons in our recent closet to have another one lurking in the shadows waiting to explode into view again.

Set a standard and stick to it.

SHIP HIM OUT!

I have not heard this tape that everyone is referring to and understand the polarized views on this subject. He was not convicted of anything and the case never even made it to court and is still with the same girl and a child.

I would like to think between the manager and the club and people involved looking into this with access to a lot more detail than any off us, if they feel it is justified to allow him to come back, I trust their judgement and that's the end of it for me.

I am sure there will be sections of the fans who will boo him and some who will welcome him back and opposing fans will have a filed day with him. He needs to be of immense mental strength to even want to do this as a 21 year old and if he succeeds all credit to him. We live in a polarized world and society and quick to judge, condemn rightfully or wrongly sometimes.
