Marc Jurado leaves club permanently.

Free, or perhaps compensation will be paid for him?

Sydney!!

1.) 01 Sep 2023 11:07:44
Nominal fee with generous sell on clause quoted.

2.) 01 Sep 2023 11:17:05
Can't see how though. He was out of contract this year. 2023.

31 Aug 2023 16:49:22
Ornstein has reaffirmed that we are now moving for Reguilon. I always thought he was good before his move to Spurs, but underwhelmed by his Spurs form.

26, can also play left midfield. Amrabat still on though.

Sydney!!

1.) 31 Aug 2023 17:30:44
Real Madrid seen something in him. I can remember seeing him and thinking he was quality, gutted that Spurs signed him and not us. Then seen him at Spurs and thought we missed out. I had him in my Dreamteam, got a few assists. Then he kind of died out a bit. Went to Atletico on loan. He will do until January.

2.) 31 Aug 2023 18:40:36
I have seen him when he ahs had very good games and also poor games. par for most solid players the pl. as a loan deal I will take it. we are not building the team around him and its a short term plaster.

30 Aug 2023 15:52:37
Mengi gone now. Now you could look at this two ways. Maguire is staying now so he has no need to stay. Or we are making room for a new CB. Come guys, let's get Todibo in.

Sydney!!

1.) 30 Aug 2023 16:41:26
Your clutching at straws there Sydney ?.

2.) 30 Aug 2023 17:37:32
I have to say it quietly because I will get told of, but in my opinion, we need GOALS from somewhere, we just can’t possibly go into the season with just one, that’s ridiculous, even Kane had some back up at spurs!

3.) 30 Aug 2023 17:41:46
Arsenal seem to have done it right for example got a back up keeper in Raya, who is probably much better then the number 1, that’s what I like to see, buy better then what you got and your own player who not won you anything drops down and fights for his place back, surely that how you build a team and then a squad comes in to place, we seem to buy on par with what we got for some reason or don’t buy at all, that is strange in my eyes.

4.) 30 Aug 2023 17:46:54
Agreed Tim lol. its clear now we have major spending restrictions. loan offer for Ambrabat has cleared all the fog in my brain:)

5.) 30 Aug 2023 17:56:44
Fortunately our £60m striker is now fit so GOALS may start to come.

6.) 30 Aug 2023 19:17:41
Trafford, you are more than welcome to your opinion.

I think the goals will come when there is a settled side.

Tim, I think you're right, but doesn't hurt to hope. ?.

7.) 30 Aug 2023 19:18:51
I hope they do start to flow, so we don’t have to keep trying to walk ball in net, or pot shots from anywhere, but it seriously can’t be left down to one man, even if he does start to score. But it’s huge pressure your pinning all our hopes on a young kid who never yet kicked a ball in premier league.

8.) 30 Aug 2023 19:59:00
Onana better than ddg
Mount better than most of our wide men and 10s
Hoijland will definitely be better than martial wout and rashford as a 9

There you go Trafford, we are on the same page as the wonderful arsenal ?.

9.) 30 Aug 2023 20:09:22
GtS

Our striker, our 20 year old striker has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Let’s hope he can cope. One striker and no real back up is very risky when we struggled for goals.

10.) 30 Aug 2023 20:25:15
I know we were chasing the game against Forest Trafford, but we looked so much better when Casemiro was piling forward. I think Amrabat if signed would allow that to happen more. Same goes for Mount. He looks out of place playing too deep. We will see, but I think goals will be shared if it starts to click.

11.) 30 Aug 2023 20:36:06
I'd rather gravenberch then ambrabat but I don't make the decisions, the scousers will be a good team with gravenberch and we will rue this mistake, ambrabat isn't pl quality. Its like gakpo all over again.

12.) 30 Aug 2023 20:47:39
Hopefully so because at the moment even Cas is looking poor in this system, but who not going to play then, does Mount lose his place before he even got it? Not going to drop Bruno nor should he not going to drop cas he most class we got, he won’t drop Antony for whatever reason and he got new striker to come in that’s easy one because we not got any striker so he goes straight in. Hopefully we see him play and he does well, but I am not holding my breath, maybe he is the new small Rodri! Or Rice who knows, but I don’t think Mount come to sit on the bench, ok while he injured.

13.) 30 Aug 2023 20:54:45
No offence Danny I couldn’t care less who you want or who I want, I want the club to sign who the manager wants so let’s hope we get it done!

14.) 30 Aug 2023 21:08:23
Trafford, I did post this earlier elsewhere. I do think Bruno will replace Antony. I think with everyone fit, EtH may start playing Bruno on the right. We will see, but I think Hojlund would benefit waaaay more. Antony can pretty much only shoot and that will not help Hojlund.

15.) 30 Aug 2023 21:18:37
Chris I’m not sure I can agree
Is Onana better the DDG that’s too early to tell, some things better some things worse we need to see how that pans out over season.
Is Mount better number 10 then Bruno, not in my book is Mount better on Right then Bruno, no not really
Won’t be hard for the new striker to be better then Martial, Wout and Rashford as a number 9, but what are you basing that prediction on, there is nothing at all to base it on, can’t even base it on 9 goals he got last season because different league.
So are you saying, if he gets new DM you drop Bruno and keep Mount in there?

16.) 31 Aug 2023 00:40:44
It’s a squad game, we are in the CL and other cups, lots and lots of games, we don’t have a ‘first 11’, every player will be needed throughout the season, so if Bruno can play central or on the right that’s fine, some games Antony will play, some games Garnacho will play, some games we will play Rashford or Martial up top, most games we will likely play Hojlund.

17.) 31 Aug 2023 06:00:34
When Bruno plays on the wing he drifts out of games, his best position is in the middle conducting the attack.

Amrabat is being bought as a squad player, not a starter. I imagine he will work in rotation with Cas and Mount and cover for when one get injured, or Cas gets his inevitable red card.

18.) 31 Aug 2023 06:39:27
Trafford over the years I’ll stick up for ddg but in last few we could have signed umpteen keepers who improved us, luckily we signed one of the best gk in Europe!
Mount in my opinion isn’t better than Bruno as a 10 but he’s head and shoulders better than the rest of our forward options in nearly every position, he’s criminally under rated by our fans . And I suppose the fact he’s excellent in various positions is attractive to the manager!
I fully believe hoijland will be far better than the strikers yes, forget rashford goals as a number 9, which we’re nowhere near as many he had off the left but this guy is a proper number 9, big strong quick has a great work ethic! Something we haven’t seen from a number 9 in donkeys years at United, especially when rashford is up top!

19.) 31 Aug 2023 10:27:59
I don't know why we didn't get Raya instead on Onana for half the price.
Maybe we wouldn't be in this predicament know scratching around for money to buy a midfielder.
To spend nearly 50 million on a goalkeeper is madness, the midfield and the striker situation should of been the priority.

20.) 31 Aug 2023 13:19:00
I like Onana Simmo. I think he will get assists this season.

We ended up spending £20m more than planned for Hojlund thanks to PSG.

Extra £10m more than planned for Mount.

We were also expecting McTominay and Maguire to go. Still not over my friend.

21.) 31 Aug 2023 14:43:46
Grim, we may not start many games initially with Bruno on the right, but I can see Antony being taken off and Bruno moving to the right. We have seen that.

I am not a fan of Bruno on the right, but it is something we will see I believe. Ambarat if signed will become undroppable. He would solidify the team and we will play better with him in the side.

All what if at the moment, we don't have Ambarat and Cucurella, so we will see what happens.

22.) 31 Aug 2023 14:54:19
But Chris, you could have Ederson, Gordon Banks and Alison in goal together McGuire will still make them look bad along with AWB and Dalot last couple of seasons along with no real midfield, who can look good with that in front of you add to that the ball coming straight back from the striker, it’s recipe for disaster for any keeper. I can understand why he bought Onana but I feel was more glaringly obvious positions to address first, plus Raya was available on loan with option to buy.

30 Aug 2023 13:10:05
Ornstein breaking that we are finally in the room with Fiorentina over the purchase of Amrabat. But on loan.

Sydney!!

17 Aug 2023 11:20:32
So seems like Ed002 is spot on again.

Seems we are working on another forward attacking player and a midfielder.

No indication as to who it is though. Want to tell us who we are enquiring about Ed002?

?.

Sydney!!

{Ed002's Note - Ansu Fati (LW/F) Chelsea interest has moved on to another Barcelona player after signing Mudryk - although Jorge Mendes has been knocking on their door again. I think they can be discounted. Interest of Manchester City, Juventus and Manchester United will depend on Barcelona making a decision about keeping the injury prone Fati or finding a suitable replacement - and I suspect they will let him leave at the right price. Offered to PSG as well. Bayern Munich offer an attractive option but are concerned about injury status. Expect him to leave if they can raise €70M or so. Outside chance Spurs may also show an interest.}

1.) 17 Aug 2023 13:45:26
Would be a great signing if he can remain fit. Not sure where the money will be coming from though unless we’re planning to sell Bruno or Rashford, which seems very unlikely.

2.) 17 Aug 2023 16:32:33
I’m fully prepared to be laughed out of the building but Maguire-Fati swap?

3.) 17 Aug 2023 16:58:51
Just what we need ANOTHER LEFT WINGER.

4.) 17 Aug 2023 20:53:39
Haha. Good one, Downsie. Tbf though, Sancho plus cash may well suit all parties. We need a LW/ ST a lot more than we need a LW/ CAM.

5.) 17 Aug 2023 21:28:14
Joao Felix anyone?

6.) 17 Aug 2023 21:48:46
I don’t see any place for him. Rashy isn’t a CF. Garnacho, Sancho, Antony, Amad, Pellistri and Greenwood on the other.

Sales needed if this happens.

7.) 17 Aug 2023 23:55:02
Appreciate the reply Ed002. Strange as I suspected it may be Fati after seeing the BBC Gossip Column story that Barcelona are willing to accept offers for him.

I suspect Amrabat will happen once Donny/ Sociedad deal is agreed and if McTominay goes to WHU then Gravenberch will be bought. I am unsure about Pavard though.

Ed002, Apologies if already answered today. But do you think Maguire is staying put or is this just some serious negotiation tactics taking place right now. A bit of who blinks first?

{Ed002's Note - Maguire needs to leave - it may strtch out a while longer though.}

In regards to the Southgate rumours. I am not entirely surprised by this. He is out of contract after the tournament and would cost the club nothing in compensation. So, cheap.

He also is a YES man, someone who is perfect for the team that's being built above him. United want a coach, not a traditional manager. Someone who will not interfere with transfers or go against the club.

He gets on very well with the English players at United, for example Rashford, would probably see a fresh and new Rashford under Southgate. Or possibly anyone other than EtH. But there are reasons for someone like Southgate.

Rightly or wrongly he is a good choice for the new board.

Sydney!!

1.) 20 Mar 2024 10:38:46
Southgate didn't get the England job off the back of what he achieved at Club Management, he's not managed a club since 2009, 15 years ago. They finshed 12th, 13th and then relegated during his time with Middlesbrough. Giving him the Managers job of arguably 1 of the top 5 clubs in the World and everything that comes with it would a strange and very risky choice IMO.

2.) 20 Mar 2024 10:41:55
Rumours also do Southgate a favour if he is trying to secure a new England contract before the tournament.

3.) 20 Mar 2024 11:05:08
Ports, I agree, he is not my choice, not top ten. However the club will want a coach. Someone to coach the players and that is essentially what he is at international level. He doesn't have to deal with transfers, he simply picks the team. The board will control scouting, transfers and the daily running of the club. The next United manager will be a coach. They will have little to no impact on decision making of incoming players.

4.) 20 Mar 2024 11:32:31
Good posts Ports and Sydney.

5.) 20 Mar 2024 12:15:55
Agree on the point that the next boss will be more of a coach. But maybe it’s me, I don’t see what evidence there is that’s Southgate is a good coach?

He only sees the England players for about a week every few months, not enough time to coach them really.

He’s a very good man manager from what I can tell, but not so sure on his coaching abilities.

6.) 20 Mar 2024 12:48:25
Fallguy, that's exactly why I don't think Southgate is the answer. For me it is Moyes all over again. If we make an underwhelming appointment, that would put huge pressure on the club and manager instantly. If it is to be a coach and it is obviously looking that way with the board appointments, then it needs to be someone young and exciting. Good speaking to the media. A bit no nonsense too. De Zerbi looks a good shout, but I don't know enough about him.

14 Sep 2023 10:58:50
You know when you've hit rock bottom, when mother releases a statement defending her multimillionaire son being subject to negativity in the media.

It has nothing to do with 2 years of mediocrity.

Sydney!!

1.) 14 Sep 2023 11:33:34
I don't really see much negativity in the media for Maguire, in fact most of the British pundits like neville and carragher are defending him resolutely.

Recently he's been jeered by opposition fans and has received abuse from online trolls but most players get that which os why they stay of social media for the most part and outsource to a Management company.

2.) 14 Sep 2023 12:12:21
He has a lot of defenders I must admit, ironically better defenders than him ?

Seriously though, he was always an English player over hyped. He has changed too, afraid to attack headers like he used to. Used to score and at the very least get his head to most crosses. He scored frequently before, doesn't come close anymore. Lost a lot of confidence.

3.) 14 Sep 2023 15:20:21
Has she locked herself in a church?

4.) 14 Sep 2023 16:16:32
The abuse Maguire is getting online is scandalous, every man and his dog jumping on him, sarcastic videos, excessive trolling.

He's not right for us but he is a good pro and a decent CB, he deserves better than the abuse he is getting, including on here.

5.) 14 Sep 2023 16:39:01
AJH, I've not seen any abuse to be fair.

I did see an African parliament ridicule him.

But that's about it.

I've certainly not seen abuse on here. Not sure it would be posted.

6.) 14 Sep 2023 17:04:13
As soon as I saw him put his foot out against Scotland, I'll be honest, my heart sank for him.

And I have no heart.

7.) 14 Sep 2023 17:06:57
I'd question whether at the top level he is a decent CB. I think the parts of his game that are poor are so important for teams at the top (high press requiring quick ball release, scanning for team mates positions, good acceleration from standing position, etc) that I don't think he's suitable for squad position never mind starter. He'll do fine at certain teams, and I've said elsewhere that West Ham are actually one of the few teams he'd be well suited to given their current style of play. Being able to call that out, especially in forums like this, is not abuse.

For my part, I think that - unless it's obvious the player is not trying over an extended period of time - then it's out of order to go to a game and boo your own player. However, fans here being annoyed that Maguire was continuing to be played when he was an obvious liability shouldn't be considered as out of order. But bar that clause, I do agree with you @AJH.

8.) 14 Sep 2023 18:53:47
A decent pro would have taken the opportunity and left in the summer and restarted his career elsewhere.

The fact he stayed hasn't help himself, he should look at players like Smalling and consider what is best for his future.

9.) 14 Sep 2023 19:16:56
Sydney, I take it you're not a Twitter user, then? He was trending for ages after the og, and not for good reasons.

10.) 14 Sep 2023 21:33:20
Fans are mad because he didn't leave, nothing more, nothing less.

11.) 14 Sep 2023 22:30:00
I got one am extremely disappointed with the circus now around Maguire! Yes we criticise him on here as ultimately he’s not good enough but all this nonsense with England is not acceptable! Just remember first and foremost he’s a human and he’s getting absolutely slaughtered and I’m not sure why! Always represents his country very well to be fair! He’s a dad, husband son and brother before a footballer and I do t like what I see happening to him .

12.) 15 Sep 2023 00:30:43
Maguire has had death threats and a bomb threat in the past couple of years. You may not see specific things, but imagine what he’s getting in direct messages.

Not a great footballer, but there is still a human being there.

13.) 15 Sep 2023 09:43:00
Where was the out rage for the liverpool keeper that got death threats after cl final ? hardly a word spoken in favor of that lad.

Maguire shifting the blame and cupping his ears when he scored against the dog and duck = bringing it on himself.
And the “do you know who i am” fiasco in Greece and trying to bribe the police. Won’t leave the club unless we pay him off, even though he would be on a new 3/ 4 year contract at west ham. The lads a ??.

02 Sep 2023 01:04:10
Team has improved from last season. We do need our confidence to return mind. That'll take a few wins and hoping Maguire doesn't play. ?

Weghorst - Hojlund
Eriksen - Mount
Fred - Amrabat
De Gea - Onana.

Sydney!!

1.) 02 Sep 2023 06:19:23
I'm guessing they've trimmed the wage bill a bit too with some big earners moved on. Anyone know how much was bought in from sales?

2.) 02 Sep 2023 06:49:23
I love your optimism but,

Mount is a good player but a different one to Eriksen. I also think Eriksen has been excellent.

Hojlund hasn't played yet, we have no idea how he will do.

Amrabat hasn't played either, and given his price, why did nobody else want him?

I hope they all do amazing things but its far too early to be saying the team has improved.

We needed a proven goalscorer, and we haven't signed one.

3.) 02 Sep 2023 07:23:57
AJH apparently other teams were in for Amrabat but he repeatedly claimed he only wanted to join United.

4.) 02 Sep 2023 07:28:36
AJH

Yes I would agree. I believed the spine was weak. GK ok, CD? No improvement and HM still there. CM we will see how Amrabat is now, yet Arsenal improved with Rice, Chelsea massively improved that area, Liverpool have improved there too.
My concern was CF, we struggled to score and now completely rely on a 20 year old with virtually no back up. We will have good games but we look a cup team not a league winner.

5.) 02 Sep 2023 08:15:27
AJH I’m still convinced Amrabat has been done for a while and that’s the reason Liverpool and others didn’t go any further. Based on nothing but a hunch, given Fiorentina kept one of their better players away from the main squad for a prolonged period, waiting for us to finally pull our finger out.

He’s a different player to Fred. Doesn’t have Fred’s energy (who does? ) but is a much better passer. He will help us retain possession, but the bigger question is what sort of involvement will he have and at whose expense? I don’t think Amrabat is going the be a starter when all of Cas, Mount and Bruno are fit and available, but we finally have someone to play in tight games, when we’re holding on to a lead, and if we’re being overrun as we have done recently, providing ETH isn’t too stubborn to change things.

6.) 02 Sep 2023 08:59:44
Lots wanted Amrabat he turned them all down for us. I see people already against Hoijlund, not even played a game for us, not his fault what we paid, Onana is clearly better than DDG, Mount the funny one but least he works and runs something we was crying out for not so long ago.

7.) 02 Sep 2023 09:04:51
Hojlund doesn't need to play to be an upgrade on Weghorst ?

On Ambarat. There is a very long list of teams who he rejected to join United. Or teams who enquired about him. Or teams with money to burn on deadline day who bidded for him.

Amrabat will not get many goals and assists. He will do the boring stuff like your Carrick, Kante, Jorginho, Rodri. His work will go mostly Unnoticed to the average football fan. But he will make a difference. He will play the Casemiro role and allow Casemiro to play the Fred role.

And if Mainoo is to make it, he will learn a lot from Casemiro and Amrabat.

8.) 02 Sep 2023 09:16:19
MYbe Wazza, but I can't get Wat from the fact that our biggest issue last year was an inability to convert chances, and we haven't addresses that.

I love Rashford but I doubt he will have another purple patch like he had last year. Hojlund may go on to be great but right now he's an exciting kid with potential.

We created so many chances last year, smd scored so few goals, that issue has not been addressed.

There were games we were overrun and we capitulated on a few occasions, perhaps Amrabat might help there, but goals win games.

9.) 02 Sep 2023 13:11:15
Rooney was a kid with potential
Fowler was a kid with potential
Owen was a kid with potential
Pele
Aguero
Ronaldo
Maradona
Messi
Greaves
Haaland………The list goes on and on.

Why are we not thinking that this is a striker than can hit the ground running? Many before him have and there is no reason that he cannot emulate the many before him.

Less of the negative waves, it’s a mother beautiful bridge!

10.) 02 Sep 2023 15:42:30
Of course there is a chance Keefy, he could end up scoring more then Ronaldo in his career or he could score as many as Carthorse, it’s an unknown, so hence a gamble whatever way you look at it… most on your list though had probably scored more by the time they were 20 in a much tougher league, sure someone will have the figures! But I doubt any of them at 20 was expected to lead the line at a huge club and be their sole striker. 8 years later we are still awaiting Martial to emerge, he showed more promise even younger!

11.) 02 Sep 2023 21:19:08
who is Carthorse?

Also I sometimes wonder if we bought Martial by mistake, that van Gaal got him and Mbappe mixed up.

You can just imagine that happening too. Crazy guy he was.

12.) 02 Sep 2023 21:48:03
I’m all for choice, difference of opinion and belief.
I do sometimes struggle with complete and utter pessimism around something that people proclaim to support and want to succeed.
We are all aware that not everything is perfect, and indeed thete us room for improvement in many parts of the club.
But complete dismissal of our chances and total negativity around everything is difficult to understand!
If you’re not happy, and not enjoying being a United fan then we all have a free choice to move on.
I’m here for the long run, no I’m not happy with everything, who would be? But if everything is totally negative in your feelings towards the club then move on!
Not aimed at anyone, or any feelings in particular, just don’t understand complete negativity around something you are supposedly passionate towards!

01 Sep 2023 18:13:11
Onana - 1st Team
Bayindir - Squad
Evans - Temporary
Reguilon - Temporary
Amrabat - 1st Team
Mount - 1st Team
Hojlund - 1st Team

Not a bad window. An okay window. Certainly a window done on restraints. Looking forward to seeing us with a proper striker. I am not expecting miracles from him, but want to see some good work and as long as he is involved in goals, I'm not expecting 20 goals from him this season. Amrabat I think will bring solidity to the team, I think we will start to notice that in a few weeks. Mount will tinker along, we may see the best of him after Christmas.

Sydney!!

1.) 01 Sep 2023 18:39:11
Sydney who don’t play then if Mount is in 1st 11 Amrabat is in 1st 11 I presume Cas plays and Bruno plays? And Rasmus in 1st 11, does that already demote Mount to the bench?

2.) 01 Sep 2023 19:06:40
Anthony misses out, Bruno or Mount on the right, with an out and out striker up front I'm sure this can work.

3.) 01 Sep 2023 19:30:00
Wiggy, have you ever seen Bruno have an effective game from the right? Every single time he plays on the right the game passes him by.

4.) 01 Sep 2023 19:33:05
Wiggly Do you think Ten will eat humble pie and stick his 80 million pound man on the bench? That be interesting.

5.) 01 Sep 2023 19:57:30
I think he will drop anthony in the bigger games yes, I'm not a fan of Bruno on the right but I think it didn't work in the past as we haven't had a proper target man for a long time, hopefully hoijland can fill the void. You both seem very upset, maybe just wait and see how things play out and try and enjoy the season, we're not privy to what happens behind the scenes so no point worrying about it imo.

6.) 01 Sep 2023 20:15:52
I class 1st team as the players who will likely play each important game.

First XI plus the likely subs.

7.) 01 Sep 2023 20:23:36
I can understand that Sydney, but I can’t see Cas, Bruno sticking around if they sitting on the bench, not even 1 or 2 games it’s ok like at city when they winning things you have a chance of them not rocking the boat, or not so bad if they can see upgrades in there position, but that’s not so at this time, Antony or Mount I can’t see sitting on bench either, Rashford neither. Could create some problems, that’s for sure.

8.) 01 Sep 2023 20:31:27
Onana
AWB
Varane
Martinez
Shaw
Casemiro
Amrabat
Mount
Bruno
Rashford
Garnacho
Antony
Hojlund

I think this 13 will always play if all are selected for the match day squad. So for me they are all first team players.

Might be alright if we can field 13!

10.) 01 Sep 2023 20:54:58
Trafford, we have a lot of games this season. I'd say there's a good 16 players that we can use regularly. But 13 that will be happy being swapped around. Players like Antony, Garnacho and Rashford should be used carefully.

11.) 01 Sep 2023 20:59:39
I'd also not expect to see Bruno subbed. I'd imagine Mount or Antony subbed depending on opponent or what's tactically necessary at that time.

12.) 01 Sep 2023 21:13:31
My biggest concern still is where are the goals coming from, if I am honest I can’t even see Rashford getting near what he got last season, he seems to have gone back to not playing with a smile on his face again!
I think anyone who is not concerned about goals in this team is deranged, we could not get goals last season and only added an unknown to try remedy that and looks like we going to have an extra midfield player to shore up defence, as Varane injured more now and even he was moaning about number of games played before a ball was kicked this season, that don’t bode well.
We already got the worst goal difference out the top 8 in EPL and only played 3 games! And two of them games were against so called inferior opposition.

13.) 01 Sep 2023 21:29:14
Goals will come now in my opinion. Two reasons why.

1) Hojlund, finally we have a proper striker who will cause defenders problems, Hold up play, make runs, this will give the likes of Rashford and Antony more freedom.

2) Amrabat/ Mainoo, an extra defensive midfielder will solidify the team. It will give the forward players more licence/ freedom to get forward without an eye on getting caught on the counter attack.

Goals will come, I do believe that.

14.) 01 Sep 2023 22:50:15
We cannot play bruno, rash and cas the amount we played them last year. its asking for trouble. good window we have a deeper squad with better players.

If i had one wish list item, it would be a top CB and not another striker. Hoiland and martial cover that imo.

15.) 01 Sep 2023 23:17:29
You know what Ahmad, never even considered the amount of games we were asking the lads to play last season. We’ve certainly added depth now and strength to rotate when necessary. Good point.

16.) 01 Sep 2023 23:36:55
Bruno will insist on playing every game. But agree on the others. They should play 80%-90% of the season. Varane 50%, hence why we needed Todibo.

Redseven,

If I am honest I am not too bothered regarding Rice. He's a good player and yes I wanted us to sign him, but Amrabat is a good player too and far cheaper.

Onto my next point. With Amrabat being cheaper, could we not have went all out for Kane. Forgot Mount and Hojlund? Idk, personally yes, but not sure if it was possible.

But for me Kane was a no brainer and just a clear example of our penny pinching. Five years of Kane, his goals, the confidence and respect he would have commanded was the way to go.

But he was expensive. His overall package was expensive. I hope Mount and Hojlund work out to be great signings, but we missed a trick here and it's the first time being a United fan that I feel short changed.

We wanted Kane, he would have likely came to United. We missed out. That's so unlike Manchester United. He had Manchester United written all over him.

1.) 01 Sep 2023 16:56:23
Think Kane was more an issue of how much Levy would have wanted from a premier league side and his wages meant the whole package was too much. Can all agree he would have been great for us for 2-3 years and possibly won us the league but we have to be a little sensible paying so much for players at his age.

2.) 01 Sep 2023 17:05:25
Daniel Levy would've made it so difficult for us to sign Kane. From a spurs point of view, Bayern is the best place they could sell him as he had to be sold.

Would they really want their talisman going to a competitor in the same league? I'm not even sure that it was a possibility for us to sign him.

I'm sure an unlimited amount of money would solve the problem but, we're not that club anymore.

The business done this summer has been okay considering the restrictions. Let's hope the new faces settle quickly to help us improve on last season.

3.) 01 Sep 2023 17:07:24
We all wanted kane but transfer fee plus wages over term of his contract would have been something I imagine we couldn’t justify at the moment unfortunately!

4.) 01 Sep 2023 17:40:50
Chris not “all of us wanted Kane”. I for one didn’t.

5.) 01 Sep 2023 17:47:03
Is this a response to something I posted a few weeks ago or something? I have a vague recollection of saying (or at least thinking) that we’d have been better off signing Rice, Raya, and Kane rather than Mount, Onana, and Hoijlund, but it certainly wasn’t anytime recently.

Fwiw, I don’t disagree with anything you’re saying here, though barring some miraculous flurry of activity in the next few hours, I can’t help but feel that this has been yet another failed window.

6.) 01 Sep 2023 17:59:47
Sorry Redseven, I meant United-Stand.

7.) 01 Sep 2023 18:12:50
Haha. No worries. You had me worried that I was going senile for a second there.

8.) 01 Sep 2023 18:42:59
I’m really not sure anyone can mention Rice and Amrabat in the same breath! Or did Ten see something no other manager did?

9.) 01 Sep 2023 18:57:01
Rice is completely over rated and over hyped. Good player but not the be all and end all particularly for the moment he was bought for.

Amrabat could be a much better signing.

10.) 01 Sep 2023 19:08:09
Who knows Trafford, but we certainly couldn't afford to spend 100m on rice.

11.) 01 Sep 2023 19:10:40
I love Rice, I see him getting better amd better at a 'big' club. I wasn't sold on Kane but get how he would have made a difference in the short term, whereas Rice would have been around for years.

12.) 01 Sep 2023 19:39:39
Rice is an exceptional player, even Pep would have jumped at Rice if Rodri was leaving anytime soon, will make any other team better, strong, physical, good football brain, can see a pass can stroll a game, makes everything look so easy, never flustered hardly ever caught out of position, makes everything look simple.
Kane another exceptional player, goes to new country, new culture new league, bang 3 goals 2 games, don’t need all the settling in crap that’s used.
Buying them two and no one else would have certainly improved our team beyond all recognition and not even a gamble, we spent a fortune and everyone of them is a gamble and questionable even if they perform to top of there ability they make us any stronger.

Seems Transfermarkt disagrees with you. They have him valued at €40m too. But what do they know?

It's been confirmed by the right people and of course Ed002.

I agree wholeheartedly that we shouldn't just put a plaster on the issue, but take away that clause and he is a €40m player who is available for £15m. His wages wouldn't be an issue and we could easily recoup in a sale.

I also wholeheartedly agree that it is lack of chances being created that is the issue, but we still only have one striker, That's unacceptable for Manchester United.

Had we signed Kane in the summer we would be seeing a different United now. That transfer would have installed so much believe and confidence, we would be a different side now. But we must make peace with the fact we cannot compete for that level of player anymore. Kane's whole package/ age.

I wouldn't expect us to sign Nice players cheap. That would not happen. But it would give us an advantage in negotiations, certainly informal negotiations. And perhaps payment structure may be easier to agree.

Be interesting to see what players we send to Nice on loan.

Maybe you're right about Guirassy hitting a purple patch, still doesn't change the fact United have an interest in him. But a loan move it'll be because there is no money to spend. January is never a great time to do business, but that's because teams want excessive fees for players and clubs want to avoid paying over the odds. However, Guirassy is of interest and he has a clause which is pretty cheap in today's market. We are also very short on strikers, we have one striker.

Be interesting to see if Ratcliffe dips into his other club for players. I suspect the obvious two would be Todibo and Thuram. Both would add to our first team and both have been on our radar before.

Rumours also do Southgate a favour if he is trying to secure a new England contract before the tournament.

All managers since SAF, even SAF since the Glazers haven't been getting their first choice players. That's the penny pinching. Van Gaal and Solskjaer have both clarified this. Poor negotiating, then panic buying 2nd or 3rd options at inflated prices has been United for sometime now.
