Apparently Saido Mane wants to move to us and we are 'in talks' with the agent of Aleksandr Kokorin. never heard of him to be honest!

One of the managers at work plays Golf with a few guys from the Woodside pub in Worlsey and one of the guys works for Utd's security team in some capacity.

On Tuesday night he said they had their a Golf quiz night and the security bloke knew nothing about any new imminent signings had NOT been briefed to expect a new arrival over the coming days.

Maybe the guy was just being professional and keeping his cards close to his chest but the manager at work said that they had a few bottles of wine, everyone was well oiled and the guy's story never changed all night. nothing imminent that he was aware of in terms of new faces.

Has anyone got anything positive on incoming transfers?

Jack Rowley

1.) 13 Aug 2015 09:59:27
A lot can happen fast Jack when close to the deadline

2.) 13 Aug 2015 13:33:53
It is looking like we are not in a hurry to sign anyone just yet so it might go to the wire.

3.) 13 Aug 2015 14:26:12
All the rumours coming out of the club seem to go along with that it seems that LvG is not actually looking at a defender or striker

4.) 13 Aug 2015 14:45:33
Other than the fact lvg said himself he is looking at 2 positions?

5.) 13 Aug 2015 15:36:26
Could be a tea lady and a cleaning lady?

6.) 13 Aug 2015 16:23:50
A few weeks ago it was Paddy Crerand saying we were signing someone big in the next 7-10 days, but nothing to date. If Paddy doesn't know i doubt very much someone working for the security company would have any idea.

7.) 13 Aug 2015 16:43:35
LVG gave a decent press conference today but spoke far too much sense for this site

8.) 13 Aug 2015 17:22:48
Shawthing,
I thought the someone big who Paddy was eluding to was Schweinsteiger?
Ps I genuinely think that, it is not a cheap gag about how many letters in his name or the size of his shorts.

9.) 13 Aug 2015 20:49:01
I can guarantee you that there is at least 2 done deals - big deals.
The reason they aren't announced is due to the selling clubs.
Do you honestly believe Manchester United - Manchester United - would go into a season with one recognised striker (who has realistic chance of playing). As we speak the net spend is 20 million - you do the math.

10.) 14 Aug 2015 07:51:13
CAM, this was after the Schweinsteiger signing.

11.) 14 Aug 2015 09:21:51
There's no striker coming we might get pedro but that's it and then on the last week well probably end up with Ron vlaar for our CB with van gaal liking the players he trusts no doubt

12.) 14 Aug 2015 10:07:52
nach,

£500 bet we don't sign Ron Vlaar?

Spoke to my fiancée's brother again last night (regional manager at a national Bookies). Here is what he said (most of it is well known but some might not be):

1) Di Maria all but done and will be officially unveiled by PSG before close of business on Friday.

2) He understands Pedro move to be pushed forward once Di Maria goes. Timescales are hard to predict but his Bookies expect Pedro deal to be finalised by middle of next week.

3) They are hearing NOTHING re new defenders coming to Utd. He said any that did would probably be a 'left-field' purchase that the Bookies have not previously foreseen.

4) Utd apparently know what it would take (financially) to get Zlatan quickly (PSG want him sold if possible) but they predict it would be a last gasp move. They don't currently see it happening.

5) His firm believe it's more likely Utd will NOT make any further signings after Pedro.

He said things can change and bookies are not always right. If Utd start shipping goals they may push for defensive reinforcements.

He thinks Utd will go with the current squad (after Pedro) and go all out for Bale next summer. His info is that Bale is the one player Utd REALLY want.

Jack Rowley

1.) 05 Aug 2015 11:48:45
LVG himself said that he will add a CB so i can't see the window closing without us having any CB signed . It may be too late but eventually we will sign a CB

2.) 05 Aug 2015 12:15:38
Thanks for sharing Jack. Like you said bookies are not always right, else no one will ever make any winnings. However i trust them more than most of the tabloids.

3.) 05 Aug 2015 12:30:13
That's a decent read Jack.

Bookies aren't always right but they are rarely wrong. You don't see a poor bookie.

For me - I would be worried and disappointed if we only signed Pedro - Pedro is a great signing and an ideal replacement for Di Maria but we have lost RVP and Falcao - we need a striker.

Our defence is a mess and it will be a huge disappointment if we don't sign a proven CB.

Personally I don't think we'll be finished after Pedro. We have the funds and wages to sign proven class - it might be the end of agust before seeing anybody else though

4.) 05 Aug 2015 12:58:34
IMO we can't consider as replacements players that will come for RVP, Falcao or Di Maria as they didn't play big part last season. We need to find the right players. Because if Pedro's game is the same as Di Maria's last year, then we rather use Januzaj, Valencia and Pereira.

5.) 05 Aug 2015 13:30:49
Thanks Jack, unfortunately too believable.

Maybe LvG believes defence will be stronger for having better defensive shield (as Southampton had with VW and MS - lovren floundered at Lpool)

Would still worry about being vulnerable to the counter attack once we lose possession in our pressing game, particularly with Jones' rash challenges.

6.) 05 Aug 2015 15:06:30
Thanks for sharing Jack - unfortunately on these markets bookies are often far off the mark, they make their margins on horse racing and football matches rather than special bets like who is buying who, they have no idea at all, so although your info could be correct it is more than likely that it will be totally wrong.

Giants,

Bookies don't make money because they know things, they make money because other people don't.

7.) 05 Aug 2015 19:05:09
That's deep GDS

8.) 06 Aug 2015 12:51:55
I work for a bookies Jack.

Hi Eds

2 quick questions if that's alright:

1) Do you think Utd will sign Pedro before the first match of the season or do you think it will drag on and he won't sign in time?

2) Do you think we will sign Zlatan? Only asking because I was at a party in Newcastle on Saturday night and my fiancée's brother was sure that it would happen (he works in a bookies & has told me about Newcastle signings in the past way before they happen but this is the first time he has said anything about Utd).

Any thoughts?

Jack Rowley

{Ed001's Note - 1) I think Pedro has become a very real possibility, van Gaal wants him, but Barca will drag it out a bit I think in order to get the best possible fee. With Barca offloading a number of fringe players already, this might be a difficult deal to get done, if Woodward can make it happen at all, he will deserve great credit as Barca are reluctant to sell him before January now.

2) His agent certainly thinks there is a chance of a deal being done, he has spoken to United about him. PSG are very keen to get his wages off the books, so they will not be an issue. The only question is LVG, this is not a player he would choose if there were other options, so it is a maybe for me mate.}

1.) 03 Aug 2015 10:07:40
Having a big lump like Zlatan up front would certainly suit LVG a little 001, rather than him throwing Felliani up there when the philosophy fails to reap rewards!

{Ed001's Note - I am not sure Zlatan is just a big lump to be fair! He is very technically accomplished. Though it would give that option in times of need. Nothing wrong with it as a tactic for a change anyway. The problem is when you only use the hoof, rather than it being a deliberate tactic to suit a need sometimes.}

2.) 03 Aug 2015 12:45:55
dont know if zlatan would like the fact that rooney is our no.1 striker. we'll have to wait and see

3.) 03 Aug 2015 13:15:06
i think zlatan would be no. 1 striker if he came. especially if he shows his worth early on! he's world class!!! rooney is a great player but not world class in my opinion. atleast not at his level.

4.) 03 Aug 2015 13:27:39
the next cantona!!

5.) 03 Aug 2015 13:30:57
Talking of Swedish.
Remember the little stint Larsson had with us?. I was gutted when he went!!
Wonder if he's bent Ibra's ear a little?.
Ibrahimovich would b an amazing signing in my eyes. If he did come, he would know what to expect from LVG
😉😈😈

6.) 03 Aug 2015 14:05:39
Ibra for me would bring the sparkle that Cantona brought. the arrogance and the skill to back it up. He would be strong enough to deal with the PL (look at his handling of Terry).
He would be an ideal signing for me. even if it meant Rooney dropping in behind him as number 10 with Deepay and Pedro either side.
He would be effective. fun to watch and as with LVG it could blow up quickly . but he is the sort of class we could do with

7.) 03 Aug 2015 14:25:05
Ed001,you mentioned about 2 or 3 weeks back that we had interest in lewandowski, but had probably put in on back burner while we explored a deal foe zlatan. Have we still got btw rest in RL or have we moved on completely from him? I think zlatan is a wonderful player but fear that between sweinsteigger Carrick and ageing Rooney we are just setting ourselves up for another major squad overhaul in two years time. Thanks for your time Ed!

{Ed001's Note - the interest is still there, but you have a lot to buy and even United have FFP constrictions that stop them just paying what is needed. Which is why a deal for Otamendi has been a problem, you simply can't meet the asking price and pay out for a forward too, just yet anyway.}

8.) 03 Aug 2015 17:17:46
Manchester United's twitter account is re-tweeting @Zlatanfacts. done deal me thinks.

9.) 03 Aug 2015 17:42:39
Ed001 is that last part to mean United will be able to complete some signings once Di Maria and/or De Dea is sold?

Also, if United are restricted in their spending by FFP would that make a deal for the Bales or the Mullers of the world impossible regardless of the player's stance and his clubs stance?

{Ed001's Note - no, it is simply that a deal for Otamendi requires the club to make a large up front payment, whereas a lot of deals can be done over a 3 year period, which is standard. So you could pay the money, you just want it spread over a period of years, rather than one up front payment, so that the increase in revenue lessens its impact on the club's finances. With Zlatan, PSG just want his wages gone, so they are willing to agree terms more favourable to United, whereas Bayern are not just looking to offload Lewandowski so want terms favourable to them.}

30 Jul 2015 09:45:00
Hi Eds

If this is just paper talk then sorry to bother you with it but a few reports coming out today saying we have agreed a £21.5m fee for Gaitan (Benfica)to replace Di Maria.

Do you or your contacts know anything about this?

Cheers

Jack Rowley

{Ed001's Note - I don't know anything about it sorry. As far as I can tell, everything just says 'reportedly' meaning they have no real source for the story other than other newspapers saying it.}

1.) 30 Jul 2015 13:20:24
i hope not, pedro is cheaper and much better than gaitan

Cheer me up someone and tell me the rumours about us considering Antoine Griezmann and Gonzalo Higuain are true.

P.s. Looks like Benzema off to Arsenal for £48m and Otamendi has completed his City move. could this week get any worse regarding transfers!

Jack Rowley

1.) 20 Aug 2015 14:51:23
Does Romero mean LvG doesn't hate south americans anymore?

2.) 20 Aug 2015 14:55:07
It could get worse if we do sign Higuain for me Jack - he is even worse than Rooney and has been playing off his reputation for longer!

Not bothered about Otamendi or Pedro either, and happy we played with pace the other night so I'm pretty upbeat at the minute. Just hope the tempo continues to improve and it wasn't because we were playing a much lesser team.

3.) 20 Aug 2015 16:22:45
Don't rate Higuain tbh.

19 Aug 2015 15:49:51
There is a rumour flying around the internet that Pedro supposedly spoke with Victor Valdes before HE then decided to snub Utd for Chelsea!!

Valdes could end up being the worst transfer in recent Utd history if true!!

Jack Rowley

1.) 19 Aug 2015 16:22:42
Or the best signing for indirect benefits, we don't need Pedro (the Spanish Young) and DDG/Madrid are not being allowed to get their own way. LVG was also able to hammer Valdes in the press which saved it from being a more important player - I get the impression the gaffer needs to vent from time to time, pleased Valdes got it as I never rated him much.

2.) 19 Aug 2015 16:25:33
Anderson, Bebe, DI MARIA?!

For all this Pedro malarkey there are some strange things being banded about.

3.) 19 Aug 2015 16:34:26
I am happy we did not waste our money on Pedro.
Not the player the world thinks he is.

4.) 19 Aug 2015 18:33:14
He should have talked to mata too then.I am sure he would give Jose a great endorsement or some of his spanish teammates at real Madrid:) the media loves to make up stories.

I think sometimes it is just as simple as we just did not agree on the valuations given what we have and decided against it. Like most things other clubs are spoken too and Chelsea agree with the valuation of the player. Still can't see where he plays though and who sits

19 Aug 2015 12:21:14
Pedro in London for a Chelsea medical later today.

That's it I give up on Man Utd transfers this summer.

The club's glory days went with Fergie and we will be competing with Arsenal and Liverpool for 3rd - 5th place from now on.

Anyway I have wasted enough time on Man Utd transfers this summer and am done with it now.

See you guys in January 2016.

Jack Rowley

1.) 19 Aug 2015 12:40:41
Haha oh my god the meltdown is hilarious.

2.) 19 Aug 2015 12:41:46
Lol see you later!

3.) 19 Aug 2015 13:14:07
He must be back at school next week.

Bye.

4.) 19 Aug 2015 12:51:02
Calm ones self

5.) 19 Aug 2015 12:57:14
talk about a massive over reaction, you're acting like a spoilt kid, we have made 5 signings already in areas we needed to, Pedro is a decent player but will he be any better than what we have?id rather see januzaj and Pereira giving their chances than spend 20+ million on a player who is 28 and not what we need, i'd rather our efforts went into buying a centre back or a quality striker, even if we don't then there's nothing we can do so get behind the team and move on.

6.) 19 Aug 2015 13:21:52
So your only here for transfers. How odd.

18 Aug 2015 15:26:51
Is anybody else sick and tired of this Pedro transfer nonsense or is it just me??

For 4 weeks we have been 'very close' 'have agreed personal terms' 'haggled over the release clause' etc.

There are reports now that City have met Barca's asking price and are expected sign him as well as Otamendi (who is currently having a medical) by the end of the week!

If this happens Utd's transfer window will have ended on a serious anti-climax and the club stand little to no chance of winning the premiership back this season.

We will lose our No.1 Goal Keeper and have fallen out with our No.2, have sold our record signing, have sold our leading goal scorer, have bought 5 players yet still need a top class Goal Keeper, Centre Back, Right Wing & Striker and have a manager obsessed with a philosophy that involves not scoring goals!!

Strange times at the Theatre of Dreams!!

Jack Rowley

1.) 18 Aug 2015 16:02:25
I am sick and tired.of people basing everything on newspaper rumors.

2.) 18 Aug 2015 16:10:03
Can't argue with that

3.) 18 Aug 2015 16:25:44
It's all doom I tell you.

4.) 18 Aug 2015 16:18:48
Calm down, for multiple seasons we all soda fix the midfield and the club have done so, we all knew we needed a right back and the club went and got one. The club/LVG have said we lack pace/creativity up top so I'm sure that's being addressed also.

I don't believe the club have ever publicly said they want Pedro, for all we know there is interest but nothing more than that.

5.) 18 Aug 2015 16:45:52
But still, the team has two wins in two games, and no goals conceeded. don't think we are finished shopping just yet, and we will only improve the comming weeks. If we could get Müller in aswell we would be a serious contender for more than one title.

6.) 18 Aug 2015 16:46:46
Never heard of the perfect game? 0-0 is the highest possible result on purist doctrine.

7.) 18 Aug 2015 16:53:12
If you realized transfers aren't so straightforward like in our imaginations, then you can't really be pissed. I always assume there is a ton of things happening behind which most of us have no idea about while we pick on stuffs from here and there and frustrate ourselves. I assume that the club must be doing its utmost best to get a player LVG wants. Its a business, not a charity to thrown few millions over everything. Deals should benefit both parties. You can't succumb to every clause the other presents, you have to maintain your business values too. Why is this so hard to assume?

8.) 18 Aug 2015 18:56:20
Let's wait and see what happens. Hopefully we'll get the player we need.

12 Aug 2015 11:43:07
Not convinced there will be any further signings despite what I have been repeatedly told by people who have more information than I do.

At best I think Pedro will be our only new signing but even that for me is not nailed on. He doesn't want to leave Barca, they don't want him to go and it doesn't seem as though Utd have actually bid for him or are in any rush to do so.

I suspect LVG thinks so highly of himself that he believes he can mould our current lot into a top quality team.

The midfield is full of quality (Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger, Mata, Herrera, Depay, Carrick, Young, Valencia, Januzaj, Pereira)

Both full-back positions are sorted (Darmian, Shaw)

One centre back position is sorted (Smalling)

. but the rest of the team still needs SERIOUS work/new faces!

We have no top class keeper that wants to be at the club, we have no partner for Smalling in central defence and we have no 25-30 goal a season out-and-out striker!

Early days but both City and Chelski have better squads (and Chelski have a better if very petulant manager).

It's between us Arsenal and Liverpool for the 3rd and 4th places.

Jack Rowley

1.) 12 Aug 2015 12:00:43
The manager has stated on several occasions that he wants more pace in the attack.

would be surprised if we didn't sign another attacking player.

2.) 12 Aug 2015 13:06:36
Bit harsh on Romero i would give him a chance to prove his talents before writing him off as not being world class

3.) 12 Aug 2015 13:09:22
Agree Jack and more importantly, we have no out and out TOP striker, that will be our downfall this year.
People can talk as much as they want, but Rooney and Depay will only score 20 goals between them. And the other strikers, Hernandes and Wilson will not even make the teams in any top 4 side.
So LVG is in dreamland if he thinks that we will challenge with this strike force. If he wants to play this system, then we should be getting a target man to play the striker position.
I think we can almost get away with our CB deficiencies, but the striker problem is massive.

4.) 12 Aug 2015 13:47:04
Jack,

I think we might have 2 more players in before the weekend.

5.) 12 Aug 2015 13:50:55
Yet we don't need another striker!? But we need pace up top? He's just contradicted himself? We need ANOTHER PACEY STRIKER! And a new blinking manager!!

6.) 12 Aug 2015 15:07:04
I thought Romero was pretty decent on Saturday, apart from the early game jitters which is quite understandable.

Hope you are right as both Otamendi and Pedro will improve us a lot (assuming LVG picks them in their best position, their wives don't hate Manchester and they don't get robbed).

However, they won't win us the title. They might push us up to 3rd (ahead of Arsenal) but City and Chelsea still have something we don't. genuine world class 25-30 goals a season strikers.

They have Aguero and Costa who can snaffle a half chance and nick an undeserved 1-0 or 2-1 win for their clubs. we simply don't. We will need to create several chances per game for Rooney to score even one whereas City and Chelsea could win with one shot on target all game (that's how good their strikers are).

I will be madly happy if we get Otamendi and Pedro but we are not getting that title back until we get Lewandowski!

For those people saying Pogba was a world class player produced by Utd, here is his youth team history:

1999–2006 (age 6 - 13) Roissy-en-Brie

2006–2007 (age 13 - 14) Torcy

2007–2009 (age 14 - 16) Le Havre

2009–2011 (age 16 - 18) Manchester United

Pogba was already 16 and a France youth player by the time he pitched up in Manchester.

He was in our youth academy for all of 2 years, then our 1st team for 1 year playing a grand total of 3 games before he swanned off to Juve.

In truth we had little/nothing to do with his development. Our academy seems incapable of developing top quality, 1st team ready players and hasn't done so for donkey's years!!

Brilliant post and best I have read in a long time.

Our club with it's famed youth academy hasn't produced a world class academy graduate since 1992!! 23 years!!

John O'Shea, Wes Brown, Danny Welbeck, Darren Fletcher. all good solid players but world class? No!

City are not only buying top class 1st team players but are putting MASSIVE funds into the club infrastructure for the future. If you go to East Manchester it's like Man City land!! They have bought an entire postcode of Manchester and are building jaw-dropping facilities both for the club and residents. whilst Utd try and get foreign companies to sponsor the training ground canteen!!

Utd need a young, hungry top class manager

The 1st team need a GK, CB, RM & Striker

The academy needs to start producing quality players able to challenge first team members for places, not just one's the club can sell to League One teams for £1.5m!!

Money is not the issue here (yet). the hold up is Pedro has not fully decided whether to leave Barcelona.

He doesn't want to leave Barca but they can't guarantee him more game time as they have 3 far better players in his position (Messi, Neymar, Suarez).

Barca love Pedro and don't want him to go but he will have to be content with being a bit-part player if he stays. He will only get a regular run of games if one of the 'holy trinity' gets injured/suspended.

Pedro has not communicated to anyone (Utd or Barca) his final intentions (probably doesn't know himself) so everyone is in limbo.

He needs to make a choice between staying at Barca as a bit-part player or going elsewhere for regular football. Once he decides to leave then Utd will put in the necessary bid to secure his services (and the fight with Man City will begin).

My gut feeling however is that he will stay at Barca.

Everyone can see we need the following:

1) To sell De Gea and get a new 1st choice Keeper

2) Buy a new centre back

3) Buy a RW replacement for the 'spineless one'

4) Buy an out-and-out striker

. yet we have not done so & don't look like doing so!

Even if LVG doesn't want to spend £36m on Otamendi there are other top quality and presumably cheaper centre back options out there (Rudiger, Howedes, Toprak). ALL of those 3 would be a MASSIVE improvement on Jones and Evans. How does LVG not see this??

It's shocking that he's brought in 11 players and spent 1/4 billion pounds in the past 12mths and the team still has HUGE gaps to fill!!

Jack Rowley
