Murmurs coming out that Utd are "happy" with the medical report that Vidal had done the other morning.

No news as to whether they were present or just got a piece of paper.

I think we did pretty darn good in the window.

I’m sad we didn’t get Vidal…but we can look at it in retrospect that his knee was worse than we all thought and whoever made the choice against upping Earth to get him was right. Maybe dip in next year. We still need to strengthen our CB area with 1 strong defender and I fully expect our next all-out assault with be for Hummels.

Whilst I always said that Welbeck was worthy of a bench place…he never changed a game. Hernandez could and was always above him in the pecking order (for me) but I fully understand why he left. And Clev never lived up to his bill.

The rest fell quite nicely. The choices we made and the money we spent was immense and great as said many times below; when a world class player comes available, you can not let it go sometimes! Di Maria and Falcao are in the top 20 players in the world. When the Falcao news broke, everyone’s jaws dropped where I work! In surprise…and in fear from a couple of Citeh fans. I’m hoping it all spurs on an onslaught of the league!

Whilst we are building from the roof to the ground, it’s better than bringing in mediocre players.

1.) Despite some peoples view, not everyone wanted Vidal. Looks like some of us were right. If Strootman is LVG's next target, we need to be sure he has fully recovered

2.) What did we spend? 150m? and then we had some modest offsetting sales, so net 125m. We also got rid of a load of salaries, maybe 700k a week, which should just about offset the pay of the new players. Altogether, for a club like United, that's not what I would call a massive investment. The interest costs will be about 6-8m, less an expected increase in merchandising sales/profits with new names like di Maria and Falcao to sell. Then, if it works, and we get back into the ECL revenues will increase by another 30m+.

Let the press criticize all they want but let's not get taken in by it. On paper it was a great window bringing exciting players into the club. Of course, in the end it's what happens on the pitch that counts.

3.) AJ

I d not believe for one minute Strootman will ever wear a United shirt. You need to think much higher caliber player than Strootman as our next midfield purchase.

4.) Falcao's knee injury was far far worse, do you want him :)

5.) Well Sydders, Falcao wasn't on anyone's radar but as we've got him on loan, if his knee goes we can send him back. Can't do that if we had bought HM (or Vidal) for silly money. I'm guessing huge knew he was likely to fail a rigorous medial

6.) Syd
How was falcao injury far far worse?

7.) AJH, I was only joking my friend. You were spot on. He should never have played at the WC. If he didn't, he'd probably be a MU player right now.

8.) Jred, I think he ruptured his cruciate ligament, and knee injuries don't come much worse than that.

9.) Is that a serious question jred? Or just another chance to disagree with Sydney?

10.) I thought they where talking about strootmans injury, which I think was the same as falcao's

Pretty much confirmed that it would need an offer AND/OR a transfer request for Vidal. From Marotta:

“There is no reason for him to leave. Yesterday he gave an interview in a rushed and embarrassed manner, as he was getting his luggage and so was misinterpreted.

“I can assure and confirm Vidal is happy to be with us and there’s no reason for alarm. He had these problems with the knee injury and rushing the recovery for the World Cup, so will take a while to find his fitness.

“Nobody can doubt the quality of the player, nor how strong his bond is with Juventus.”

Asked if he would be surprised if Vidal put in a transfer request Marotta responded: “Absolutely yes. It is a very remote chance, considering what the lad is like, and so I’m not even considering the possibility.

1.) I am not sure why some are getting their knickers in a twist over signing this fellow. I personally think someone of a more defensive minded nature is what's needed in CM. Ander and Juan with a strong CM behind them, would be the perfect mix. Vidal, from what I saw in the WC, is more Box-to-Box as opposed to an out and out holding player.

Of course, he is top quality; no doubting that; but I question the wisdom of people who suggest that if we don't sign him, we won't be able to challenge next season, is a bit ridiculous. A top CB and solid DM type player, will enable us -IMO- to challenge next season.

We have no European football next season, and a squad of players' who will show far more desire under the new manager, so I for one am expecting big improvements regardless of big name signings. I mean, Herrera is going to be an absolute star for us next season; and I for one think he is the best possible signing we could have hoped for this season, as he adds so much of what we have been missing. The same goes for shaw, who I think will thrive in the wing-back role. Then there's some of the younger players' at the club. A few of them have the potential to shone under LVG; and I for one would much rather see a James or a Blackett come into the first team and have a blinder, then splash a ridiculous amount of money on players' who might not step up.

That is just my opinion anyway.

2.) You mean we'd have to make an offer to sign a player? Who'dve thunk it!

3.) To be fair, we have signed two player's already. I expect we will sign more; although they might not be the big stellar names that fans' want.

The manager will sign player's he believes will best compliment his system of play.

His track record, as far as big name signings go, isn't that impressive, so I see no reason why he will buck that trend.

4.) I agree with you samthered. Too much is being made of Vidal being make or break for the club. I think most important for us is to get another 2 good defenders in. We have plenty going forward to challenge, but a back 3 of Evans, Smalling and Jones terrifies me. I still think Jones has the potential to become world class, but he would really benefit from playing beside a Hummels or someone.

I watched the game against the Galaxy and in the second half it was so clear how much of an impression Flecther had on Blackett and Keane in terms of organizing them. I think getting a top drawer CB, to do the same thing to Jones and Smalling is the priority.

5.) I don't disagree, but for me, the only DM we have any hope of signing, is Nigel de effing Jong.

And if that's what we need to "watch this space"over, I'm going to be gutted.

I've been optimistic this summer, but looking at the options we have (realistic) for CB, LB cover and DM, I'm dreading the rest of this window.

I thin that, YET AGAIN, we've been had.

Mathieu signed for Barca to play alongside Pique.

Leaves little room for Hummels. The reports earlier this week may be correct.

-SB-

1.) I'm a little surprised that they paid £16m for a 30 year old - especially one who only has two caps for his national team.

Whilst I agree that Mathieu moving to Barcelona is a strong indicator that Hummels will not be moving to Spain this window - I think it also suggests that he simply will not be moving.

Klopp has been very vocal about him not being available and, for the extra £7-10m it would have cost Barcelona, you imagine they would have chosen him over Mathieu were that not the case.

2.) R7, although I do not believe the stories released from Spain about MU and BvB agreeing a €20m deal, (I think they jumped the gun) they did say that Hummels had turned Barcelona down in favour of MU. If that was the case, then Hummels wouldn't have been an option for Barcelona hence the signing of Mathieu. It appears Hummels has chosen us so they went for Mathieu,

It's clear Klopp doesn't want to lose Hummels, and it's clear that the €20m agreement story is nonsense which Klopp rightly has laughed off, but we know MU are pushing hard to agree a deal for Hummels, so if we pay enough, in theory we should get him. I hope so anyway. That being said it will be tough as BvB would prefer to keep him and it's unlikely Hummels will force his way out.

3.) I think the only thing left is the price. We will be penny pinching again no doubt, but I imagine personal terms have been agreed with his agent and he has chosen us.

4.) Syd - IMO Hummels is one of the best 3 CB's in the world and I'd love him at the club. Unfortunately I just don't see it happening. I imagine Reus will still be leaving and given that Lewandowski has already left - I just can't see Dortmund wanting to lose their three best players - regardless of any bid we place.

5.) I would agree with how things look.

With a pinch of salt, factor in that his Twitter account went from him talking in German on 05/07/14 to English afterwards and the comment "Maybe I should take english classes again ;)"

We'd easily be looking at €35/40m.

6.) R7, why will Reus be leaving? Why Reus and not Hummels? Who is going to buy Reus?

7.) Syd - the fact that a deal was agreed with Barcelona at one point suggests that the player wants to leave and that the club have decided to let him go.

The club will not have wanted to let Reus go and so for them to agree a deal in principle suggests that he may well have kicked up a fuss internally. There's also a clause in his contract which comes into effect next summer which would mean them getting less for him if they were to hold onto him.

As for who will take him; I still think Barcelona will move for him before the window closes - but if they don't we'd be foolish not to try.

8.) There are reports that Reus will be stayin put this year and will move to Bayern Munich next year when his release clause can be activated.

9.) R7, There was an agreement between Barcelona and Reus, not Dortmund and Barcelona. There must be an agreement with ourselves and Hummels if we are trying to sign him. So there's no difference between the two situations.

Just going to post to say hi. again.

Used to post under SB. but I think I forgot my password!

Been reading this site since 2004/5 when at uni (did a Sports Science Degree). Live near Manchester, love Utd through and through, wish I could afford to actually watch more live games! Won't post very often mind.

To start though; excited by the signings of Shaw and Herrera. For prospects; excited by Vidal (which looks promising; Juve need to balance their books), Hummels would be an excellent addition (but don't want to get my hopes too high here. but with Barca signing Mathieu, it's a bit higher now), Di Maria would be a good addition but may cost too much, I think we should buy De Vrij and Blind. and then I'll be a happy boy!

Clear out a bit more deadwood, operate with smaller squad and then re-address next summer.

I do expect news on Vidal when he gets back from his hol's Friday/Saturday.

SB I was on the Utd website a day or two ago and was on the jobs page. They had need for someone with your qualifications. Might want to check it out!

"Have we received bids? Yes. I can't tell you who from but you will know very soon, " Wenger said. "Are Manchester United one of the teams to have made an offer? I think they could be in the group.Ideally, yes, we would like to sell him abroad and that is an option for us."

I'm taking that as read we have. They'd rather sell to Barca, both teams would rather have Hummels but he's going to be hard to get. Vermaelen needs to weigh up third choice at Barca or starter for us.

Watched a documentary about a year ago which said that the MEN had 2 people 'in the know' 5 years ago but due to restrictions, this dropped to one sole reporter 2 years ago.
However, an update on it said that they were now back up to 2 and their bond was 'stronger than ever'.
Still, it's a newspaper who want to make money!

Red seven, if they did that, they would be undervaluing them. Good for existing shareholders and new buyers, bad for the Glazers and overall business model (a bit like the Royal Mail fiasco. but this time, the only people who will benefit is the seller of the shares; The Glazers).

If they wanted more money, they'd raise the share price first (by announcing Vidal for example) and sell at a higher price. If enough people take them up, they'd be laughing.
I can't see there being a lack of uptake for the new shares also (from a business PoV) with the new sponsorships announced and LvG in place.

If they did the offering before Vidal (for example), that would be a very noble step for everyone involved.

If you want a nice place to take the OH, don't go to Rosso. You're shipped in, seated, rushed and it isn't good service. Food is alright, service is shocking.
Ben Brazil is supposedly more for a lads night out.
Wish I could remember the chinese I went to one time but had a few too many shandy's. was amazing!

Paid effectively £21m for a centre back who played and was solid for every game for his country at the WC, rated to be in the team of the tournament?

£30m for a young solid midfielder who will add a lot of composure to the side with some cutting passing?

£38m for a world class player who was the players player of the year for two years?

£30m for a left back who has potential to be one of the best left backs of the next decade? Who, if he stays with us for the foreseeable, would only cost £3m per season tops?

I think we overpaid on Mata from the above because of his lack of playing time. The others are good business. only person you omitted was the worst and is £28m of floppy hair money wasted.

As for AdM, only time will tell. It is a lot of money (£60m down payment) but could be the difference we need up top but there are other priorities at the back though.

I really want all of this to be true about Vidal. It would be a midfield to reckoned with with him, Herrera and Mata in. All the signs are point to it; Juve do not have the money to splash around. They were flirting with the borders of FFP last year so need to remain neutral to positive this year on the books. They’re buying players. Their stance and approach seems weaker (if what said above is accurate).

I did post up about Utd being in on the medical the other day and it got shot down…but a few more news sources seem to agree now (at least).
