I back Ten Hag 100% for suspending Ronaldo. This sends the right message short-term and long-term.

I do not understand how anyone would not support the manager over this.

I think the Ronaldo situation is just the latest example of poor decision making at the Club and has caste a dark shadow over EtH’s opening few months at the Club.

After 6 long years of Paul Pogba being held prisoner at Old Trafford and the issues that caused for several managers along the way the Club has learned absolutely nothing.

Ronaldo should have undoubtedly been allowed to leave in the summer.

On a personal level it was a fairly successful season for Ronaldo last year but the Club imploded around him and rumours of dressing room discontent were rife with some reports even suggesting Ronaldo was culpable for the teams collapse.

It would appear that other areas of the pitch were prioritised in the summer window and when it became obvious the money would not extend to another striker Ronaldo was forced to stay.

Whether EtH planned to use him we’ll probably never know but after being denied a move Ronaldo was never going to be happy coming off the bench. It was obvious this would eventually blow up and a fall out was inevitable.

As with Pogba Utd find themselves in exactly the same situation, an underperforming star player on massive wages of little or no value to the team and the soap opera continues.

I would agree. No excuse for it. I don’t care how a player is feeling. He is supposed to be a professional. Why should Ronaldo receive wages when he refuses to play? What use is any footballer who declines to play? Tevez did it with Mancini at Man City. Disgraceful in both cases.

As per certain reports, EtH and maybe even Murtough and Arnold were willing to let him go. It was Joel Glazer who was hell bent on keeping him for commercial reasons. How can one blame EtH for this fiasco?

It's funny how things have changed in less than 6 months.

Back end of last season most fans considered Ronaldo the golden child, untouchable, beyond reproach.

He was a shining example to others in the dressing room on how to behave to make it to the very top.

He was going to show them how to act, behave, think, eat, sleep and train.

He was apparently the only reason we didn't get relegated. "Where would we be without his goals" was the repeated line.

Some of us argued that his presence could be disruptive, difficult for younger players to be able to express themselves and play their own game when cast into his shadow. That he was a vacuum for all our chances and made us one dimensional and predictable, this easy to play against.

Since then he has fallen out of favour. He has tried to abandon us, it has become clear that all he cares about is his own personal glory (although that was probably clear before, but many just turned a blind eye to it) .

Its now obvious that we do play better as a team without him in the starting line up. That he is detrimental to team performances both in terms of his low work rate and his tendency to demand the ball even when in a poorer position.

While his attitude and behaviour have also been called into question. Berating younger players he should be encouraging and guiding, and showing absolute contempt for his teammates in walking out on them.

All in all I think most fans can probably agree that his return was a bad idea and should never have happened.

{Ed014's Note - the worst thing for me about it all, even as an outsider, was his attempts to get a move to City which failed and then all that bollox about how he was coming back for Fergie.

No idea why my posts aren’t being published but………. I’ve asked a couple of times now. Is Ronaldo in breach of contract by refusing to play? Consequently can the club annul his contract thus player and club part company?

{Ed014's Note - I put them back for ed02, he could well be busy and not got around to replying Fizz.

Honest question, were there actually any offers for ronaldo in the summer? I saw a lot of ronny fluttering his eyelids, but didn't look like there was any serious interest. So did utd really block anything?

At one point there was rumours of chelsea, but I don't think the manager wanted him?

I read a lot of utd doing wrong by him, but if no one is offering, what exactly was everyone expecting the club to do?

{Ed002's Note - I have answered all of this.}

EtH covered this, everyone was warned about leaving early after the Rayo friendly. Ronaldo repeated the same mistake, I don't see this as a Ronnie thing but a consistent message to the squad.

Top leadership and management. No one bigger than the team or club.

Dlib you're very much trying to justify his actions aren't you! Doesn't matter whether he got his move or not, you behave in a certain way or be put in your place.

Ronaldo is an arrogant SOB, he only came to us when city wasn't an option. Only has love for himself, not the club.

Get him out. As soon as possible. It's telling that no big team came in for him in the summer.

22 Oct 2022 10:15:47
Utd Road, if it was only that Ronaldo left early then I'd agree. But EtH has confirmed that he refused to come on as a sub before that.

Walking out early when you know you aren't going to play is one thing. While actually refusing to take to the field is another level altogether.

22 Oct 2022 11:39:42
Bizarrely ten Hag said he didn't ask Ronaldo to come on when we'd already conceded a sackful against City out of respect, yet wanted him to come on for ten minutes when we were cruising against Spurs. It's all very sulky, but Ronaldo doesn't want those games. Love it or hate it, he wants to be the one who comes on and turns the game.

Good post Red whiskey.
He was not denied a move nobody came in with an offer and he wanted paying off. Another example of trying to make a story fit your narrative.
It's getting embarrassing imo.

22 Oct 2022 13:01:43
DLIB, wasn't the issue, he couldn't find a viable offer for him? Not the club's fault, but his and his agents.

I think, best for all parties that they move him on ASAP. Cut ties in January, let him find a new club, might be harder than he thinks unless he lowers his expectations.

It will also force us to find a replacement but in January, will be tough.

22 Oct 2022 13:32:43
I’m not defending Ronaldo I thought that went without saying and I back EtH 100% my point was this was inevitable when he wasn’t moved on.

Of course Ronaldo was wrong but sometimes you’ve got to look at the bigger picture and question why these things keep happening. They did exactly the same with Jesse Lingard last January and whilst we maybe didn’t see a public display of dissent from Lingard the Club retained another unhappy player on big wages for absolutely no reason, he contributed nothing until he finally left for free in the summer.

For the record people have short memories and the only thing embarrassing Ken is the disrespect and lack of loyalty displayed by some so called Utd supporters over the past few days.

Ronaldo is a legend of the Club, he’s a legend of the game. He’s won a Champions League and the Ballon d’or in a Utd shirt. He returned to the team quickly last season after a family tragedy and continued to score important goals whilst most of his team mates had downed tools and we’re a disgrace to the shirt.

Of course what he did was wrong, there is no excusing his behaviour and he’s rightly been fined and dropped from the first team squad. It’s been dealt with and he’s been punished.

Those calling for him to be kicked out of the have short memory’s and it’s an easy statement to make when he’s not been playing particularly well and is obviously coming to the end of his career. He was clearly in the wrong and he’s been punished.

Hopefully he’s apologised to his team mates and if he’s recalled back into the squad hopefully he can be professional and do his best for the team if needed.

The World Cup starts in a few weeks and then hopefully a solution can be found in January.

No one will pay his wages. If he got a way out in the summer he would have been gone. Times up now anyway. Let him go in January.

{Ed014's Note - I’m still waiting for that “his side of the story” he was going to tell in the summer!

22 Oct 2022 20:46:21
DLIB are you taking the Mick?

I listened to Bryan Robson the other day and said it was out of order and that was good enough for me. A real United legend.

The guy tried to get out of this club in the summer, left Rayo early before his teammates came back into the dressing and has done it again, only last week. He doesn't really give a s***e about the club, never has. He is driven by his own ego and personal agenda, and that's absolutely fine, but don't be putting him on some pedestal like he is up there with Harry Gregg, Bobby Stiles, Law, Best, Charlton, Robson, Cantona, Keane, Scholes etc. Real legends who broke their back to play for this club.

Still my favourite of all time Robbo.
As a school boy growing up he epitomised everything I lived about football.
I've played with united legends team here in Ireland on a couple of occasions got to play with him and he gave my lad his boots and in dressing room after one of those matches. Throughly nice guy and loves a pint?.

Not defending ronaldo or pogba but these players did make it clear they want to leave. Soon as that choice is made the club should move them on.

22.) 23 Oct 2022
23 Oct 2022 11:31:20
I would assume he now has his eyes on the World cup. Seeing many players picking up injuries and being ruled out is probably on his mind. No matter which way you chop it up, his actions have been disrespectful to the fans, players and the manager.

Every decision he's made this season has been the wrong one. If he turned up for pre-season there's a chance he may have been in the starting 11. Even him flashing his legs to every club around couldn't convince any offers.

By all means try an orchestrate a move away but still be professional. His actions and his actions alone have put him in this situation. Leave him in the reserves where he belongs.

IM 7.
Nobody came in for him unless we paid part of his salary.
Nobody wanted him he did not want to take a cut in wages what are the club to do? You can only shift a player on of somebody else wants him.
Nobody wants ronaldo at his own valuation of his worth.
Simple as that.
