Ed02, quick question if I may.

You've previously mentioned that players receive a percentage of transfer fees if they haven't requested the transfer. Would the comments from Pogba and his agent be considered to be requesting a move, even if they haven't formally stated so to the club. The amount of money that 5% represents now is huge, and if players receive this money after making statements like this it's ever likely agents move them all the time.

AA80

{Ed002's Note - No, it would not be considered a formal request.}

1.) 06 Jul 2019 12:33:11
I presume then that it has to be in writing to be considered a formal request? I don't think anybody would read the comments made and not think he was after a transfer. Guess it's all down to contract law.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, he would need to make a written request.}

2.) 06 Jul 2019 20:15:10
What if he can't write? Perish the thought.

3.) 06 Jul 2019 20:41:18
Although the club were looking to block the sale of pogba, will the comments from his agent make any difference or will the club stand firm? Thanks ed.

4.) 06 Jul 2019 22:27:26
i wish ole would go public tell pogba to put in a transfer request and tell him he can go if someone stumps up £150 million.

{Ed002's Note - That is not within his remit at all.}

Ed002 I remember seeing a response from yourself on the Liverpool page a while ago detailing a plan you would implement if you were in charge of the club in order to improve their fortunes. I was wondering if you could do something similar for United.

To the untrained and uninformed eye it looks like the owners have done a fantastic job of leveraging the commercial side of the club but there doesn't seem to be an obvious and cohesive plan to maintain the footballing side. Would you say that is a fair comment or are we all missing something obvious?

AA80

{Ed002's Note - The two points that arose out of that list which need to be addressed by Manchester United are:
(a) Get the Director of Football sorted out: Manchester United are continuing to try and address this.
(b) Wrest Power Back from the Players: Players at high profile teams (in particular in the Premier League and a few other individual players dotted around Europe) are not fully focussed on doing what they are employed to do, and in many cases are paid well to do. I would get someone in (a really knowledgeable football guy who can advise the club) and have them speak to each of the players to really understand where their focus is and where they want to be. I would also have a suitable advisor go right through all of the coaching staff and look at the methods of coaching. I would then get the players together and tell them that the club will be making addendums to their contracts requiring such things as responsible behaviour, not wearing flimsy designer football boots that offer little protection, wearing black boots only in games, responsible usage of social media, banning all at club visits by hairdressers and car salesmen, banning the use of all hair care products etc.. The players need to be controlled in any interviews and interviews, and any endorsements, should all be arranged through the club. Any players to which the club is making payments to third parties for such nonsense as image rights need to be moved on or the contracts amended at no penalty to the club. Then they need to be asked if they buy in to the club and these changes – if they don’t their agents can be told that the club is happy for them to find new employers for their charges.}

1.) 02 Oct 2018 18:39:55
Er your not looking for a job are you ed? 🤣.

{Ed002's Note - Not for me I am afraid.}

2.) 02 Oct 2018 19:14:14
Lovely read Ed002, thanks. Old school and i like it👍🏻.

3.) 02 Oct 2018 19:24:21
Is point (b) what Mourinho is trying to do and why he's having so many fallings out?

{Ed002's Note - It would not really be his job to do that but I do know of managers and coaches who have taken it on themselves to do. The media you all seem to turn to so gleefully, certainly the British media, are easy to make the most of supposition and the slightest apparent issue and make a real big deal which then creates this stumbling behemoth which relentlessly tries to bring down certain clubs and certain head coaches. A side issue will soon come in to this that has been created by the amount of money in the English game and the wages paid to players - clubs are going to end up stuck with them.}

4.) 02 Oct 2018 19:29:20
I get the feeling that point B is a particular bug bare of yours. How likely (and easy) would such changes be to make? I agree by the way, some players are much more interested in their profile than their performances.

{Ed002's Note - I have beef with numerous issues in the game, particularly the modern English game and how clubs behave. Manchester United are much weaker as a club than they were but I would imagine Alex Ferguson would not have allowed the players to maneuver themselves in to the position they are in. Mistakes have been made with the likes of Ibrahimovic and Depay, baggage that came with Rojo and Pogba was accepted, money spent on Schweinsteiger needlessly, massively over paying for the likes of Martial and so on. Some players are bright, sensible and responsible - Mata is the best example at Old Trafford. But many are boneheads who need to be shocked in to earning their keep - and some need to go. But that can be tough given the wages paid to the likes of Sanchez and Pogba - both of which need to be moved on.}

5.) 02 Oct 2018 19:37:10
Great read Ed thank you very much.

6.) 02 Oct 2018 19:48:06
Hi ed002. Really good points. i'm glad to see your views on player power and some of the responsibilities some of which they continually flaunt and ignore.
This squad has too many players that don't do what they are paid to do.
Im not just making excuses for the manager who is also very much to blame for our form.

{Ed002's Note - Some clubs do make it absolutely clear that the players are expected to behave responsibly and make sure that they do. Some players simply cannot behave in a way that they will not cause embarrassment to their club - Balotelli, Suarez, Pogba are examples. The squad needs work on it at MU and that is why it is important to get the right Director of Football on board.}

7.) 02 Oct 2018 19:50:47
Great post Ed and agree completely with your point of view.

I don’t want to go on just bashing the players and agents but I do feel that the balance of power needs addressing and clubs need to set standards and policies.

8.) 02 Oct 2018 20:02:55
Ed002, great post and a brilliant insight into where the club stands at present. Weak management, questionable transfer policies. Lowering of standards. All points some of us have been harping on.
Change has to happen and happen correctly and fast.

9.) 02 Oct 2018 20:09:00
Great post ED002. what's your opinion on the Glazers.
Are they a good fit for the club?

{Ed002's Note - They are the owners and are really not intrusive on the footballing side. They, like all owners, want success.}

10.) 02 Oct 2018 20:31:01
Thanks for the info Ed. Are we any closer to a DOF, and perhaps more importantly are we looking at the right people in your opinion?

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any agreement, so the club is no closer. The club has been considering folks who would work well with Mr Mourinho and they are good options.}

11.) 02 Oct 2018 21:00:44
If i could ask Ed002, could you possibly give one name, one who is attainable, that Utd could/ should appoint for the director of football role?

{Ed002's Note - I can provide names but as to whether or not they are attainable or not is a different matter. The two original candidates that were approached are Andrea Berta and Luis Campos. I previously named a wildcard option from Juventus who might just be available (but that may not be clear for a little over three weeks and right now I think I understand well what will happen there), Fabio Paratici.

However, if he were available then for me Rui Costa would be the best solution.}

12.) 02 Oct 2018 21:25:14
Great feedback and analysis, as ever Ed. Thank you.

13.) 02 Oct 2018 22:39:22
...................

{Ed002's Note - It was indeed "The Schnörk", thanks.}

14.) 02 Oct 2018 22:46:49
Ed 02 your thoughts are much appreciated. Are there similar models at eg City and Bayern? Also if all or most of your suggestions are actually adopted and eg Pogba and Sanchez go then surely other top players will look at the rest of the team and see it is very light quality wise and prefer to go to our rivals. If that is so it is going to mean we may have to accept several years of mediocrity and rebuild.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City has owners who impress the importance of morals and community on the staff. When the club became embroiled in an issue surrounding youngsters they were most unhappy. Many European sides do not have the same issues with players but they generally have expectations that players do not draw embarrassment to the club. Italy seems more like England - they have a number of DFs as players as well.}

15.) 02 Oct 2018 23:04:56
Thank you Ed002.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

16.) 02 Oct 2018 23:31:00
Great read 002, love learning about the other side of football.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks - it is a huge undertaking to try and keep everything in order player wise. For too long a number of English sides have pampered players at the highest level - the pain will come when they see how difficult it is to sell players who are earning much more than their counterparts.}

17.) 02 Oct 2018 23:55:08
You mentioned Pogba and Sanchez need to be moved on. Pogba seems fairly obvious given his baggage, attitude an that he doesn't want to be here. But is there an issue with Sanchez? Also who else would you say should be moved on?

{Ed002's Note - Sanchez was a major mistake and it is compounded by the wages which would make a move difficult. It hasn’t worked out, but what can the club do with him?}

18.) 03 Oct 2018 07:49:36
Ed002, thanks again. I read a statement from Agnelli that Paratici will be given the role of ‘Head of Sports Arena’? Also did Campos used to work with JM at Madrid?

{Ed002's Note - What I suspect will happen at Juventus is that (a) Fabio Paratici will become CEO and General Manager for Sport, (b) Zinedine Zidane will become Director of Football, (c) a new high-end negotiator will be added.

Former Real Madrid technical scout Luis Campos was previously approached by Everton and Manchester United to take charge of recruitment in a senior Director of Football role and declined. He spent time at Monaco and is now at Lille but there has been no recent approach by Manchester United although there was a discussion with another side.}

19.) 03 Oct 2018 10:31:28
Thanks again Ed002. Definitely makes more sense for ZZ to return to Juventus. Have a good day.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks.}

20.) 03 Oct 2018 10:38:20
Oh final question Ed002 if ok please? How much of a role does Matthew Judge have at MUFC? Is he the one who has overseen the players wages/ contracts?

{Ed002's Note - Are you looking for someone else to try and blame. He is effectively an assistant to Woodward.}

21.) 03 Oct 2018 11:01:43
Sorry Ed, had read a report describing his role. Thanks again for explaining and won’t trouble you again today :-)

As the football is over until the world cup and no-one has an idea what's really going on with transfers how about a different question.

What 1 or 2 rules would you change/ introduce to improve football?

Only proviso is it must be able to be implemented at all levels, and expensive equipment (so no VAR! )

Personally I'd allow physios on to treat players and subs to be made while play continues. These would both stop the time wasting at the end of games, and in the case of subs maybe managers would use them to try to win the game rather than waste 30 seconds of the last minute.

Over to you guys.

AA80

1.) 30 May 2018 15:47:01
Agree totally. There's no reason why, with a keeping an eye on things, there can't be rolling subs (up to the 3 limit obviously) . If they can do it in a breakneck sport like ice hockey, there no reason why they can't do it in football.

2.) 30 May 2018 16:03:19
No more replays and no extra time, go straight to penalties and matches really should end on the day they take place.
Stiffer penalties on diving, playacting etc, it's ruining the game. Maybe bigger club fine and longer suspensions.

{Ed004's Note - Either stop the clock when there is a break in play or allow physios to treat players as the game is continuing on. If ref deems it serious play can be stopped}

3.) 30 May 2018 15:45:04
Not thought about it too hard, but:

1 - Stop clock when ball isn't in play, which would cut out all time wasting.
2 - Introduce an Orange Card - 10 minute sin-bin. There are too many cases where an incident deserves more than a yellow but less than a red. I especially hate professional fouls when a player is away and the guy pulls their shirt or trips them taking the practically meaningless yellow. I also hate it when a player is on a yellow and miss-times something accidentally in a meaningless position, to then be sent off, when a 10-min sin bin would be more than enough punishment - and doesn't kill the game as a spectacle.

4.) 30 May 2018 16:21:10
No shaking hands hugging and kissing in the tunnel before a game.

5.) 30 May 2018 16:40:40
Sin bins/ orange cards.
Physio on pitch whilst game carries on.
Stop the clock if injury is deemed serious.
Subs to cone on whilst play continues.
Automatic red card for dissent.
Post match reviews with cards handed out for diving.

{Ed002's Note - Those of you within easy reach of London should perhaps go and watch some of the ConIFA Football World Cup games and see how they get on with the green card that will be shown for dissent or diving. It means that player has to be substituted right away. The pick of the group stage games will be Northern Cyprus Vs Abkhazia on June 3 Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, Enfield.}

6.) 30 May 2018 16:49:34
Quite like the rolling subs idea, works in other sports. Also totally agree, no need to stop the game for a substitution except for an injury.

7.) 30 May 2018 16:52:13
Give obstruction when players are shielding the ball until it goes out of play. If they haven't touched the ball they are not in possession and therefore are obstructing others from getting the ball.

{Ed007's Note - That does my nut in!}

8.) 30 May 2018 16:55:37
Stop the clock when the ball goes dead, to stop time wasting.

Then I would do away with traditional penalties which if taken correctly is scientifically proven to be unable to be saved. And instead introduce something similar to the hockey penalties. With the player starting off on the halfway line one on one with the keeper and given a time limit of 30-45 seconds to score. I think its a fairer and potentially more climatic way to settle it.

9.) 30 May 2018 17:03:40
Beast - How about automatic penalty for professional fouls no matter where it occurs, and none/ yellow/ red card according to the type of foul? So for example the Solksjaer/ Shearer incident (as much as I love Ole for it) would be a penalty and yellow card.

10.) 30 May 2018 17:07:19
Get rid of the official behind the goals cause he might as well be at home watching television.

11.) 30 May 2018 17:15:57
Instead of a yellow card if a keeper is time wasting, John O’Shea has to play in goal for 15 min.
If a British player dives, they have to give up their citizenship to conform to the media narrative.
If players spit on the pitch, the ref needs to call their mother and they must tell her what they’ve done.

12.) 30 May 2018 17:19:26
No crying like big girls when you lose.

13.) 30 May 2018 17:37:27
Lol danny and Tony 😂 it's been funny as f**k on here last couple of days.

14.) 30 May 2018 19:02:01
give penalties for fouls in the box at set plays to stop all the manhandling that goes on. Not a rule change just referees growing a pair and applying the rules as they stand.

15.) 30 May 2018 20:50:59
Put a cap on players wages, starting off at a set wage, then for every year your at a club your wage goes up, No player to earn more 100,000 a week. Agents should be only allowed a set percentage of a transfer fee.
The money in football needs a good look at, it's crazy the way it's going, ruining the game.

{Ed025's Note - im with you leahy..

16.) 31 May 2018 00:28:02
I played in a game where the ref stopped their watch at every break (throw in, corner, the lot) . It was their first game reffing and I don't think they really knew as much as they needed to know to be reffing a game of football. Anyway we only found out after the match that we played about 70 minutes a half. So if that rule was introduced to stop time wasting you would see the end of 45 minute halves.

In-play subs is a great idea, I'm also a fan of the orange card for a 10 minute sin bin, and a good shout about obstruction if the shielding player hasn't touched the ball.

All of the above should result in more goals and less cheating.

I can't be the only one who doesn't see the clamour for James. I have literally never watched a game where he has been much more than average. Scores the occasional screamer, and very much a highlight reel player in my opinion - a case of style over substance.

I'm not against signing experienced players, but they need to be the right players and I don't think James is.

I reckon it's more an admission that we're struggling to move Rojo out. With Shaw, Rojo, Darmain and Blind I'd imagine CBJ would struggle for games, and it's best for his development to get regular first team games at a competitive level. He'd be more ready next year when we've thinned the squad players a bit to give him more minutes.

I think Tielemans is another Pogba - showed all the promise in the world as a youngster but seems to lack the desire, discipline and work ethic to fulfil that potential. He seems to drift through games with little impact then pops up with something to add to his highlight reel and seduce people into believing he's the real deal.

At the time they signed Woods everyone was thinking Norwich and Watford were going down, leaving realistically one of Newcastle and Burnley to go with them. Weakening the other team was probably just as much the reason as strengthening themselves.

No, I think the people who own the club are very astute business people - after all they managed to buy the club with it's own money! They have maximised profits so far by increasing sponsorships etc but must be aware of the unrest caused by the ESL statements.

I expect that they will be more willing to change manager, even if top 4 is achieved, to try and placate the fans. I also expect them to go for the biggest name possible as they have in the past, rather than finding the best fit for the club and developing a system that will build the foundations for lasting success.

Shappy, I think that if anything the ESL debacle may make the Glazers get rid of Ole even if they wouldn't have previously. They appear to be on a charm offensive with the fans - we saw this with the players signed in the summer. I feel that they may see a change of manager as another way to appease the fans, especially if we limp in to top 4 come the end of the season. I just hope if Ole is replaced it's not with another negative manager like Conte. Will they understand that United fans want to be entertained and fo for an attacking, progressive manager? Or after so long without a major trophy would fans be happy with a more defensive manager if it meant bringing the league/ champions league back home?

Let's Play, I'm guessing Rio means to talk to Owen about the damage you can do to your body by continually playing through injuries and not allowing yourself the proper rest. Owen really suffered with that and I think is a perfect example of why it's so important to manage workload correctly.
