Why are United taking so long to bring players through. They seem to have a cavalier approach to young players. We have already lost Lingard, Pereira and Gomes both of whom were seen as the future. Williams, Tuanzebe, Mctominay, Greenwood and Laird are being held up as well as Henderson.
We never had this situation before - are we just to scared? Busby used to say " If they are good enough then they are old enough". Now they seem to be loaned out and we drain them of their confidence.

In comparison to whom?

Tell me which top club regularly has as many academy graduates in their matchday squads?

Who has a more successful academy?

2.) 23 Nov 2020 11:46:39
In what world is McTominay being held up? He’s played in pretty much every game! Greenwood at 18 played 49 games for the first team last season. I don’t understand this post.

Also, where has Lingard gone?

3.) 23 Nov 2020 11:36:08
Williams has just disappeared off the face of the team. Is he still here?

I think that's a bit harsh. We've has an Academy player in every squad for something like the last 80 years. Rashford is first choice, Greenwood was becoming first choice and will likely reclaim that spot. McTominay is a regular, Williams played a lot last year.

As for the others you mentioned, Lingard is no youngster and has failed to properly nail down a place, Gomes may have been talented but we debated on here his hunger. Tuanzebe is just back from injury, hopefully he will nail a place down.

Our record is excellent, if they are good enough then I think they will get picked.

Shan,

He was on the bench at the weekend, Ole spoke about him in this weeks press conference, sounds like he felt he had got a bit big for his boots and has been impressed with how hard he has worked in the last few weeks to prove himself.

6.) 23 Nov 2020 12:29:28
If that's right GDS then it's a bit concerning as I've heard the same about Greenwood. With the world at your feet you'd think people would be sensible and apply themselves and not get all billy big boots. The Morrison career route is not one we want to see others follow.

7.) 23 Nov 2020 18:54:46
He's disappeared off the face of the team! Oh, no, look. There he is on the bench. 😂.

In answer to your OP, we went many years producing very little. I go back to the early 70’s when people were just waiting on the next youth player to excel. I recall McIllroy being it, but that was it.

It wasn’t really until the CO92 came on the scene that it became very pronounced. It has been 80 years with a youth player in the match day squad, we shouldn’t forget that.

We have seen Greenwood and Rashford appear but perhaps the general standard of others hasn’t been good enough. There is also the point highlighted by the Ed, the youth don’t have a path to go on, there has been a lack of structure to development.

The club invested heavily in summer, plus the likes of Puigmal, Mejbri, Shoretire as well. It also needs to be considered the conditions to bring youth in, struggling teams under pressure is a tough environment, add to that if the manager is under pressure they are less likely to take chances on youth.

I was disappointed to see Gomes go, hope he makes it, but if they are good enough, if they have it mentally. they will make it somewhere.

9.) 23 Nov 2020 21:31:55
Looks like puigmal may leave red man. Interest from Spain I’ve read. Nothing worse than a young player biting at the heels of the first team to hear of interest from their homeland. Has been filling it at right back and has impressed there tbh. I had high hopes for the young trench lad aliou traore too.

RedWhiskey

Disappointed to hear Puigmal may leave, another player brought in with great hope. I do wonder if the lack of a path planned out is not helping us. Thing is these lads will go back and tell others they don’t get a chance. We have heavily invested this summer, they need to make sure those signed in the last window are managed through the process.

Hi
There are a lot of posts about Grealish and Maddison.
Its more a question of blending of what we have for the moment and waiting for the next transfer window. We should get rid of Pogba for say 40
million as he clearly is signalling his intention to leave. Bring in a couple of bright younger players and we will do well.

After watching the poor performance in Istanbul I began to wonder if we are playing to our strengths or not.
It makes no sense to leave Cavani on the bench when he probably should start. Mcguire is playing on the wrong side of the defence. He is very right footed and it shows when he rtries to distribute the ball. Mata is our best bet at threading the balls to the strikers. Shaw can get behind the defence to cross but we need fearless strikers in the middle to convert. Rashford is certainly not comfortable on the wings and where is Williams when you
need him - one of our better tacklers. I currently think we are clueless and afraid of ourselves.

1.) 06 Nov 2020 13:41:31
Cavani has not played for eight months, at his age it is wise to ease him back into football rather than play him from the beginning, that is why he has only managed 85 minutes total in the 4 games he has played.

2.) 06 Nov 2020 15:51:27
MOTZ - what will brining Williams back change? . He's less effective than Shaw, that's a step back. He's for from the finished article and is still learning his trade. Mata isn't our best bet for threading the ball through to our strikers. I love Mata but Mata's best days are well and truly behind him. Before Cavani came to United he hadn't played a game for more than 8 months and like Grimselves says needs to be eased back in. I think even Pep and Klopp would struggle to get a tune out of this lot. The club is in a sad state right from the top of the club to the team. Bad times at United i'm afraid.

I am sure that everyone will agree that getting the basics right is essential if we are to progress at all.
1. It we are playing out from the back do not pass across the defence as this is likely to be intercepted and lead to a goal opportunity.
2.Form triangles on the wings with full back, midfeild and winger/ wide attacjer supporting each other. This will lead to successful and attacking play in wide positions.
3. Play players who can retain the ball in midfield and not give it away like Fred and Pogba do. My favoured midfeild is Matic, Mata and Fernandes.
4. Play an out and out striker alongisde a number 10 - pick from Cavani and Ighalo as strikers and Rashford and Greenwood as number 10s
5. Get behind the defence to cross to create chances -that is how we used to platy and it worked.
Please discuss and tell me I am talking rubbish,

1.) 03 Nov 2020 11:20:04
My memory might be hazy, but i don't think we create very much. Many of our goals come from pieces of individual skill rather than our players getting “assists”. Think to years gone by and Beckham putting in crosses for Ruud, or Rooney Ronaldo Tevez link up. Work for eachother.
Now it seems like. Give ball to fast player and hope they do something. Which brings me on to the use of Cavani, he has come on in games but not once have we actively looked to play to his strengths. He is a poacher, workhorse type player. Yet we don't play to that style. We play with what you might call wing forwards right across the front. It seems we don't really have plan B or C.

Have we become the new scousers.
All we seem to complain about is everything - the signings, C.V., the board, the manager- who's not playng well, who we should sign and so on.

Complaints, complaints = manc scousers
Guys we are better than this,

1.) 19 Oct 2020 17:56:32
What are you on about? If things are not going the right way then we have every right to try and find out why and who is holding us back.

If we didn't complain that would be the worrying bit.

2.) 19 Oct 2020 18:41:02
Let's just shut up and accept mediocrity shall we.

3.) 19 Oct 2020 19:32:52
WRD I don’t get the impression he’s saying that. I get what he’s saying. My take is we’re Manc Scousers. We’re going through their ‘process’. I just hope beyond hope we aren’t the Manc Scousers for as long as the real scousers were before they came back.

Perhaps if he can't play and can't move he can work in the megastore
then he could sign al the shirts with his name on and generate some income for the club. Just a thought.

I believe that we need two up front.
Cavani is clearly class so he should start when fit and either Marcus or Mason to play off him when he wins the ball in the air. Martial is a good player but he is not suited to playing alongside someone. He can either dribble or play one twos but that is it. Ideally we need a target man and a sharp shooter.

Defensive midfielder -there is definitely needed to replace Matic.

I think Ole likes Kante - and if we can get him he can do a job and so could Rice.

Other options include Axel Witsel from Dortmund who seems to be a United style od player or Joshua Kimmich at Bayern would fit the bill if they become available, We need to look around and seewho we can get. I also think Fosu Mensah could be an iterim solution as he has the right credentials.

To break teams down a team has to do the following:-
1.Keep possession
2.Pass forward
3.Have willing runners in the channels
4.Win back position quickly
5.Play successful one-twos in and around the box
6.Have a dominant striker or strikers

Please rate our current team at these skills because I have difficulty with this a lot of the time.

What about Arsene Wenger?
At least he has won the league and knows how to set teams up.

Pogba has a magic spell over Ole. He hypnotises him to pick him before the game and to forget how bad a player he is.

The best thing we can do is cut him loose and terminate his contract.
