Ed 002,

Do we have any interest in Benjamin pavard from Bayern?

Could kill 2 birds as he can play both rb and cb

Appreciate your insight as always.

MRT_TGOD

{Ed002's Note - Benjamin Pavard (CB/RB) Available for sale or trade. Chelsea see Pavard as a direct replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta who may be allowed to leave and have declared an interest. The interest of Manchester United will likely not be of interest to the player who won't want to be in playing exclusively as a RB and it can be discounted. Atletico offered a similar option in the need for someeone more versatile but were forced down a different route in the summer and can be discounted. A wildcard option might be Juventus.}

Whilst we are ahead of schedule thanks to eth, I still think we need 4 players

2 are essential and and the other 2 would help complete the jigsaw so to speak.

Essential:
Striker - Kane, oshimen, ramos, Benzema
Midfielder - fdj, rice, sms, Bellingham

Extras:
Right back - Dumfries, pavard,
Goalkeeper - no idea! I still love Dave

Can we even afford the essentials without a completed takeover?

If a takeover was agreed, I'd expect us to go all out for Kane and Bellingham. With the money there, It would just come down to the players' preferred decisions. But top Four is important. Both will want to play in the Champions League. Especially Kane given his age. Although I wouldn't be surprised if he signed a new Spurs deal.

IMO United are a few good signings away from a being a very good team with a good squad. It's a good place to be compared to where we were. There are other clubs entering a phase where they need a massive rebuild. I'd be surprised if Bellingham wanted to be part of that uncertainty. But stranger things have happened.

2.) 09 Feb 2023 07:50:58
Would love to see Rive brought in, as excellent at so many things in midfield and can be cove/ replacement for Casameiro. Sabitzer looking good too.

Ramos or Vlahovic up top and David Raya in goal woukd complete a fantastic window. (Though maybe need to bring in another CB if one of Maguire or Varane leaving)

Additionally intrigued by what will happen to younger players/ out on loan….

Zidane, Pellistri and Mainoo: go out on loan? Or already worth having in the squad?

Not sure if Amad, Hannibal, McNeil or Alvarez or Laird ready for first team yet but would like to see them in the squad next season.

3.) 09 Feb 2023 09:50:34
Wallace,

Varane going? Do you mean lindelof?

4.) 09 Feb 2023 10:21:29
Agreed, would much rather us concentrate our resources on a striker and central midfielder even if that means we don't solve all the problems in the team in one window.

5.) 09 Feb 2023 10:33:05
ETH doing very well but no hiding the fact we have a squad big on quantity low on quality outside frst 11,12 13 players. Going over old ground but once Cassimiro, Eriksen are out or Varane / Martinez or Rashford who do we have?

2nd issue -the mentality just not there yet-yes gettiNG better but with the chance to go level with City, get a better grip on top 4 we went out on pitch very lack lustre again . the incentive was there but we couldn't raise ourselves again. maybe tiredness has set in but we must go into these games playing as if its the biggest game of the season . just like the Carabo final beleiving we can win it, expecting to win it and for that we need 11 players with the right mentality.

6.) 09 Feb 2023 11:51:23
Totally agree on the essential positions for the summer and I think it will make a huge difference as to who we can get if we secure Champions League football next season so a good end to the season is essential.
The leap forward we could make with a high end CM (FdJ) alongside Casimero and Striker (Oshimen) is scary. This would give us a strong spine to the team (from DDG, Varane/ Martinez) making us hard to beat and scary in transition forward.
It will take the bulk of our summer budget if at all possible but with some sales helping to fund the remaining requirements this should be our priorities.

7.) 09 Feb 2023 12:36:51
Agree with the OP. I’d go as far to say we need x2 midfielders to come in with a striker clearly essential.

8.) 09 Feb 2023 12:37:47
The midfield last night was dreadful.
It just shows how important Casemiro is. When he doesn't play we don't look like the same team. He cements everything together on that team.
Fred, McTominay shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11 they just aren't good enough. They should be squad players only.
We desperately need another 2 midfielders and a top striker along with a right back and another centre back if Maguire is to be sold.
Hopefully ETH will be backed.
In an ideal world i would love to see Kane, Osimhen or Vlahovic come in up top.
Rice in the midfield.

9.) 09 Feb 2023 15:44:10
I think we are at least two summer windows away from having a squad that's competitive and then it's obviously an ongoing process.

I would prefer however to not have a squad that is too big that is prevents youth from getting a chance. Strong starting lineup ok, but then a combination of youth and veterans backing them up.

Shappy I just think buying a young goalkeeper who can play the way ten Haag wants makes sense at this stage.
striker, midfielder and centre back all bigger priorities than the gk and possibly a limited budget this summer

I wouldn’t even mind if we had de gea, kovar and Heaton as the 3.

If kovar doesn’t show enough then we buy a new number 1 next summer.

Shappy, You can’t put de gea on 200k a week and then a stick him on the bench

I agree we should get someone to challenge him, but they wouldn’t be first choice unless de gea kept dropping clangers

If ten Haag thinks he will keep dropping clangers, he wouldn’t want to extend his contract.

Only way de gea stays is if he’s first choice imo.

I actually quite rate mbabu and remember him playing very well against us whilst he was at Young Boys.
I am not basing my opinion solely on that game either.
He’s got pace and is quite aggressive, likes a tackle but will put crosses in too. Almost a blend of our current rb’s.

However, I do not consider him a step up vs our current rb’s so it does seem a strange one.
Could be like for like if AWB is heading somewhere.

Shapyyyyy, You forgot about poor old pellestri, surely he can be 5th choice. Or do you anticipate him also getting a loan?

Why would mason leave permanently?
a loan for 12 months is good for all parties for various reasons, all ultimately football related and nothing to do with morality.

People need to get off their high horses and understand there is no morals or values in football.

Clubs like forest green rovers might break the mould, but they will forever be a small club and win nothing significant. Any club who acts the same as them will also be very unsuccessful regarding meaningful trophies.

The people who don’t want qatar ownership are most likely the same people who don’t want greenwood to play again. They use morality as the main reason, but we cannot compete if we don’t act like the rest of the clubs who are state owned and would have no issues with greenwood if he played for them.

If every footballer that made a mistake had to be moved onto another club, there would be an extra 10,000 transfers per season!

Whilst not actively involved in the protests myself (although I sometimes join them to facilitate an easier walk towards the stadium! ) I do believe they have contributed, slightly, to the decision from the glazers to explore sale opportunities more seriously.

We do need to move on…. BUT (haha)

I’m not even sure it’s a foul!
He got the ball and hurt the man after
Just like that lad who got the ball but chopped down garnacho with a scissor challenge, which wasn’t given as a foul and rightly so because he got the ball first.

Mariner in the VAR, who was it who sent off cas against palace? oh yeah that’s right, mariner again, on the pitch that time
Funny how he set up the clip for taylor on a freeze frame AFTER cas had already won the challenge, giving a one sided view of the incident

All refs are crap, but he’s next level
He also was VAR for Chelsea v Leicester and he didn’t say anything about the shocking challenge from pereira after like 5 minutes

But we need to move on ?.

Jim’s plan is to buy the glazers out of their 69% stake in United - the other 31% is spread across the market and he will slowly eat that up too following the full purchase

Still don’t like the “struggle” to afford us.

Footballs changed, so give me some oil money so we can have a new stadium.

It doesn’t change how much we spend in the transfer market anyway as we’ve always spent the most.

If the Qataris win, we are the first “big” club to be bought by a state so there is no other team we can reference to understand how this may play out.

United have to take some of the responsibility for how this kid has turned out as a human, after all, he’s been in the academy since he was about 8

I personally would like to see an extensive rehabilitation programme put in place for him
(and whatever aftercare the victim needs, for as long as she needs it)

This should be months and not weeks, possibly even a year dependent on how much progress is made, only if he is willing to actually learn and change (if not then there’s no helping the guy)

Then and only then, should he be considered to return to the team. I would also renew his contract on a 1 year, very low paid deal if legally possible. If he wants the help he shouldn’t be getting 75k a week.

I think it’s important that United are part of the solution here and do not refuse responsibility by simply ripping up his contract, nor should they welcome him back as if nothing has happened.

Whilst not guilty in a court of law, the recordings prove what type of person he is. He needs help and United should be involved in that, even if eventually he doesn’t actually ever play for the club again anyway.
