If any of the Ed’s are around, just looking at the info given by ed002 and news coming out from various different places, it looks like we’re wanting at least 2 cbs, a full back, a midfielder (maybe 2) and a forward. The first choices seem to be Silva £60+ and Todibo £35m+ at the back, Ait Nouri £30m+ at left back, Neves £70m+ in midfield with maybe either Fofana £25m+ or Hjulmand £45m+ and then Olise £55m+ as the forward. Is there any way that this type of summer would be at all financially viable?

{Ed002's Note - putting aside the money these are all targets as I have explained.}

I think it would be a fantastic summer but I really struggle to see us spending £250-300m especially without champions league football. Hopefully we can make some good money with sales. Would selling the likes of Greenwood, Williams, Hannibal and other academy players make more of a difference than selling the likes of a Lindelof?

 0

02 May 2024 21:01:47
Sell as many as we can hopefully.

 1

02 May 2024 21:58:17
Fingers crossed there’s actually a pretty high volume of sales this summer Eric, even if we have to take a hit on the fees for some of the players such as Donny and Sancho. Get them out and get their wages off the books. Just with Sancho, Casemiro, Martial and Donny leaving permanently we’ll be looking at almost a million pound a week freed up. That’s got to make a big difference.

Those figures seem a bit light. Nice were wanting €50-60m for Todibo in Jan. Benfica want €100m for Silva, Neves has a €120m buyout clause too. Ait-Nouri is 40-50m.

Ed002.
Good afternoon.
You have said that a keeper was on our list with Onana not quite working out.
Given the expenditure on Onana last summer do you see anyway that he might leave this summer?
Do you know if there is interest him from elsewhere?
I agree with the view that it's not worked out but I do fear being 'stuck with him for a bit due to the finances.
Have you any comfort to share?
Thanks.

 1

{Ed002's Note - Andre Onana (G) Not worked out particularly well and could be offered to Michael Emanalo as Manchester United look to upgrade - but my feeling is that he will stay with competition from a new GK as Bayindir wants out and Heaton will be out of contract.}

 2

01 May 2024 16:03:37
Thanks. I think the same. Hopefully we can get someone in to provide meaningful competition.
Heaton may get 1 more year I'm thinking with someone coming in to compete with Onana and not just play 2nd fiddle.
Cheers.

I don't see him going. He's made some bad errors but I don't think he's anywhere near the top of the list of this year's incompetencies and ill fortune. His mistakes are just more glaringly obvious.

 4

01 May 2024 18:43:31
Shaw there is an argument that he didn't have a solid line in front of him.
I still think the amount of basic positional or fundamental goalkeeping errors are too many.
Umo he cost us more goals through bad errors than he has saved us through saves he was not favourite to make.
But I think we are stick with him for at least next season unless a mad offer came in from Saudi.

 0

01 May 2024 21:36:30
It may be a small point, but at the recent games I went to Heaton and Bayandir came out to warm up and did the usual goalkeeping warm ups. However Onana spent time controlling balls hit back to him and then he was hitting passes out to coaches on the halfway line. Strange that we don’t have a consistent method through all the keepers and Onana had such a warm up session, then gives goals away by doing this.

 3

02 May 2024 08:40:24
Hard for any keeper to provide competition if they are not getting games to prove their worth. Any keeper coming in is just going to warm the bench for ETH mate. Cannot see anyone decent wanting to do that.

 0

02 May 2024 09:20:42
With all the transition I can't see goalkeeper being high up the list of priorities this season meaning Onana will stay (unless they get a strong bid for him) with the club looking at back ups.

I have not been convinced and he has definitely gone through both good and bad patches. Unfortunately his mechanics are not what you would expect from a top goalkeeper, however you do not achieve what he has without being very good.

If he stays next season we could see a completely different player with a different approach and hopefully better more ball playing defenders. The defence this year has not helped him.

Jean Claude Blanc coming in signals Tuchel or Zidane. Cheers.

 5

01 May 2024 01:18:14
Why does it do that? Because he knows them?! Blanc was involved anyway. He knew them before becoming interim CEO.

 6

01 May 2024 08:12:40
Experienced executive football leadership and people doing roles that require experienced executive football leadership.

 1

01 May 2024 10:39:52
I think it signals Ineos want an interim of their own choosing until Berrada starts.

Its just another example of people putting two and two together and getting five.

Hi Ed002, hope you're well. I notice over on the Liverpool page you mention you think MU can get something completed for Antonio Silva the CB at Benfica, did you mean for this coming summer? Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - Possibly.}

30 Apr 2024 23:01:32
Very interesting Ed.

If I could choose someone from benfica it would be neves. A double deal would be nice lol.

{Ed002's Note - He is not a CB.}

Thanks Ed, one to watch out for.

United agreeing terms with Silvia’s agent picking up traction on Twitter.

As it’s X, who knows what truth is but reckon someone’s aggregating Ed002’s info and passing it off as their own!

Marcel van der Kraan (Dutch journo) says eth is top of the list for the Ajax manager job. He knows that and they will wait to see if he's available. Apparently their new ceo is part of the group that manages eth so there's a real desire for this to happen. Might be the best scenario for all involved and also make it easier on all parties to agree a settlement.

 4

29 Apr 2024 14:25:27
Apologies apparently the guy who started SEG who manages eth is the new technical director at Ajax not ceo. He wants eth and after the shockers that Ajax have had since he left it’s no surprise.

 5

29 Apr 2024 18:24:34
Hope he gets the moves and both parties get back to heading in the right direction.

Ed002 - If you've got time please, even if Utd wanted to sell Rashford or he wanted to leave is there any genuine interest in taking him? Given his current form and massive wages I wouldn't suspect there is a big queue? Thanks in advance.

 1

{Ed002's Note - I am getting sick of answering the same quesions over and over. It is a complete waste of my time.

Marcus Rashford (LW/F) Much will depend on what happens in the summer regarding a new coach, but I am sure Manchester United will be regretting the new long-term contract. A third-party has spoken to clubs, including Juventus and Arsenal about him on behalf of Manchester United, but I am not aware of any serious interest. Suggestion that he could be a Mbappe replacement at PSG seem far-fetched given they have other clear targets in mind.}

More or less our biggest star/ face off our marketing. Can't see us letting him go for a fee that would be anywhere near realistic. Think he will stay and stink up the place ala Martial for the foreseeable.

 4

27 Apr 2024 08:16:28
His wages too high to be sold.

Maybe short term loan to help him get form back away from spotlight.

27 Apr 2024 13:17:13
Quite a few contracts on reduced terms have been signed at the likes of Barcelona recently. Maybe de Jong this summer. Most have done so. True measure of love for a club.

27 Apr 2024 13:18:23
There were rumours he didn’t get on with Greenwood at all and cannot work with him.

Now that’s a tough choice. A lazy and out of form Rashford or Greenwood back?!

 5

27 Apr 2024 22:07:56
That's not a choice Eric.

28 Apr 2024 00:20:58
Why not choose between Messi in his prime or Rashford? 😂.

Generally I tend to find it hard to judge players on things beyond their performance on the pitch. Frankly I just don't know enough about them personally or what is going on in their lives to feel like I know enough to draw a sensible conclusion.

With Rashford he seems like he has a decent moral core based on his efforts to make sure kids didn't go hungry. He used his position of fame to help others and that should be commended, on the most part that has been.

On the pitch he has at times carried us, and has shown genuine world class form at times. Consistency has been a problem, but a fully fit and on form Rashford starts for pretty much every side in the league.

The question is why is he so inconsistent. In the past the excuses of youth and being moved around position have been valid potential reasons.

While he has carried the goalscoring burden for us in the past he isn't the kind of player who can drag his teammates performance up. To be fair very few forwards tend to have that quality. They are goal scorers and by nature that tends to make players selfish and more focused on themselves in their efforts to score. Midfielders and defenders tend to be more team focused and as such there are far more examples of players from those positions who can elevate the performance of those around them.

As such for a player like Rashford his form will be more dependent on that of the team, he needs his teammates to provide him with good quality chances for him to be able to play at his best. So maybe his form and inconsistency can be partially explained by the team's own inconsistent performances.

There have also been rumours and suggestions that his form might be connected to his private life. Again something that shouldn't be too surprising. Most of us will see a downturn in our performance at work when we are dealing with turmoil or difficulties in our private lives. Very few people can block out those troubles while at work, and I think the ones that can tend to be able to do so because their work is an escape. I wonder how that might change if you're work is examined under the microscope of the print and online media. Can work be an escape when you are put under that much pressure.

This brings me to the crux of this whole situation for me. What support should the club offer a player like Rashford and are they giving him that support.

If a player, particularly a current or former academy player has issues in their private life to what extent do the club have a responsibility to support them with that?

We as a club take kids who are not emotionally or mentally mature and start training them to become top players. Part of that process puts them in situations that most teenagers never experience. They are exposed to pressures that many fully mature adults would struggle with, and they are expected to make good decisions and are disproportionately judged when they make mistakes common for most teenagers.

Most of them don't come from homes or backgrounds that have experience or the knowledge of how to support and advise them. They are picked out by agents and hanger-on's looking to make money on the back of these young players talent. People who will use manipulation on these kids to further their own ends.

The club looks to benefit from producing these young players, either making money on the back of selling them on, or by producing a top level player for a fraction of what it would cost to buy a similar player. Academy players on the whole tend to earn less at their clubs than players signed by the club. Their attachment to the club being taken advantage of by the club to have higher quality players on lower wages than they would potentially earn elsewhere.

Which for me personally means that the club does have more responsibility to support it's players, particularly it's academy and former academy players, far more than that of a traditional employer.

The club, while providing these young players with a fantastic opportunity, have exposed these young people to experiences and challenges they are not for the most part equipped to deal with.

Rather than throw a player like Rashford to the dogs, the club should be doing everything they can to support him and help him deal with whatever issues he has and work with him to get him back to his best form.

Maybe they are, I hope they are. Maybe playing most games is part of that support, maybe he needs the distraction of playing to give him a rest bite from whatever is happening off the pitch. Maybe the club is offering the support and the player isn't accepting it. Or maybe they aren't offering any support at all.

The point for me is that I don't know which of the above is happening. Which makes it very hard for me to judge Rashford currently beyond that his form (for whatever reason) isn't good enough and that needs to be addressed. His on pitch body language and his perceived effort is difficult to judge as I don't know why it's changed. As previously he has always been a hard working and committed player.

His body language, the rumours, the speculation, his tweets or response to questions in the press, and everything else is something I find it difficult to judge him on as I'm only seeing less than 10% of what is happening.

Is Rashford's form a problem? Absolutely. How best to fix that? Well without seeing the whole picture it's impossible to say.

28 Apr 2024 11:08:59
Why not ship out both and completely remove Ole's first choice attacking line from the club in one fell swoop. None of them have lived up to what we had hoped they would be for different reasons.

 5

28 Apr 2024 22:23:47
Why not bring back Greenwood, since the charges were dropped, he has a child with that girl and also married her?

 6

29 Apr 2024 04:27:22
Quite simple Trololo. The club doesn't need the circus that will come from bringing him back. They are trying to turn the page and move forwards with positivity, and bringing Greenwood back would not help to deliver that.

 4

29 Apr 2024 06:25:29
Sell Greenwood to whichever Spanish side want him and use the money to fund a bid for Olise, then move Garnacho back to is favoured position on the left, move Mount up to attacking midfield, Bruno as the box2box midfielder and let Mainoo keep learning the DM role.
With Licha back next season with Shaw we only need a new CB, maybe Braithwaite or the kid from Nice and we are good to go.
Easy being a manger isn't it.

 5

29 Apr 2024 12:59:13
I understand that Dodgy, the problem is with the fans, who are, imo, hilarious, that is why I posted that.

 4

29 Apr 2024 13:23:55
She is so lucky eh Trololo?

 1

29 Apr 2024 14:00:56
Taking Greenwood back is not an option. Rushford is in poor form and clearly struggling with his mentality. Greenwood is a scumbag who doesn't deserve the talent, platform or career ahead of him.

 1

29 Apr 2024 16:33:14
What is your point patrick?

James, that is only your opinion. If he is or isn't a scumbag should be irrelevant. He wasn't convicted and that should be enough.

 5

29 Apr 2024 19:23:58
Are you really asking Trololo?

 2

30 Apr 2024 16:02:20
For some reason, my comment didn't go through.

Anyway, yes, I am really asking.

 6

30 Apr 2024 17:45:58
Trololo, Domestic violence. Not a good image for the club to be associated with. Most victims stay / withdraw from cases. Does that make him innocent? What about women, both players and fans of Man Utd? Move on from Greenwood.

At the game Wednesday I overheard a rumour and worth sharing, not about players but about reconstruction. There was talk that the Quicks car garage on the corner near the top of the road was being bought to house the new Megastore in future.

I love these kinds of rumours, and it's a shame we don't see more of them on here anymore.

I think it's clear there will be big changes at the club over the next decade or more.

SJR has not invested a huge amount of money (with it likely that he will invest more in the future) in order to keep things as they are.

I think he sees Manchester United as his legacy, his chance to leave an indelible mark on the city he grew up in. Can he be the man who puts Manchester United back on our perch.

The rumours and from what he's said openly all sound great. Focus on youth and developing players, something that should be synonymous with the club. Focus on an entertaining style of play, again something that has been a big part of our history. Looking to redevelop Old Trafford and the surrounding area. To breathe new life into Manchester and create a stadium and facilities that are not just the envy of the rest of the country, but also that can support and reconnect the club with the local area. Somewhere for people to gather as a community, a place that offers employment opportunities, improvements in infrastructure and possibly even housing.

The club appears to be focused on buying up space around the stadium, and that almost certainly means they are gearing towards some form of redevelopment of the area. While the recent news of a task force being put together to look at and explore opportunities around the stadium just confirms this.

Personally I'd like to see a Manchester United development built up. With ideally a new stadium that will be the biggest and best in the country, a second smaller stadium for the women and youth teams to play at, hotels, food outlets, a rebuilt museum, a community centre, shops, and attractions. With well integrated sustainable infrastructure, roads, rail etc.

Somewhere for fans to gather not just for hours before and after matches, but for youth and women's games, for special events and weekly events. Somewhere that can be the hub of the Manchester United community.

Hopefully that or something closer to that is what we get. How we get there I don't know, but I have faith that SJR will push to get us something like that.

heres another 1 shappy- for quite some time we always parked in akp grounds rear of the ticket office and canal. Earlier this year got told off the attendants that "man utd had taken keys back " and stopped it and the depot from being used . Large plot in very prominent position.

Ed it has been reported that Dan Ashworth is taking Newcastle to arbitration to try and resolve the issue of moving onto his new job.

To me this is a very bad look and may not reflect well on them when they replace Ashworth or maybe even when they try to buy players would clubs/ players see it this way?

Or am I looking at it wrongly, I'm not trying to absolve united they may not have acted right in this either.

 0

{Ed002's Note - It is a case of someone signing a contract they wish to break and the compensation that is goining to be required to be negotiated. In terms of transfers, it won't be a huge issue, but it needs resolving.}

 4

28 Apr 2024 11:40:17
I don't blame Newcastle at all, they've worked hard to create a set up that can help build them into a top side. Then an already established top side (that is currently in a slump) look to come and take a key part from them.

Ultimately they know they can't stop someone looking to move on and it makes no sense trying to keep someone who wants to be somewhere else.

Yet why roll over and get their tummy tickled. They will fight and they are well within their rights to demand that anything written in a legally binding contract is fulfilled.

If we, and/ or Ashworth want some of those legally binding conditions lifted or not enforced then we need to negotiate that.

While Newcastle will know that ultimately they can't stop Ashworth leaving, they will look to protect their beat interests. They almost certainly don't want him working for a rival club at a time where he could impact their plans, particularly in terms of summer transfer plans/ targets. While the longer until he can start working for a rival the longer before he can start making their rival stronger.

The club would have understood and knew this before they made him their No.1 target. They will be thinking long term and appreciate it's better to have a turbulent or at least tricky first summer as they don't have all their key people in place, but actually have the right people coming in. Than it is to bring in the wrong people just because they are available right away.

That sort of short term thinking has been everything that has been wrong with our club over the past decade.

From not being able to get our first choice target (FdJ) to then move to signing an older player on a massive contract (Casemiro) to fill the gap. When a younger player with potential to become a top player would have been a better alternative. They would have been cheaper and have more longevity. But the focus was on the here and now, so we got the expensive, decking, older, short term option.

Ashworth will join, as will Berrada, while Wilcox is already in. Others will no doubt join over the next 18 months in various roles across the club.

This was never going to be a quick fix, a 500m summer to bring in all the key players and to challenge for the title next season. This is a 3-5 year rebuilding project. Something we won't really be in a position to judge it's success or failure probably much before 2030.

We just need to let them get on with it.

Hi Ed002. I read your update on our current list of targets and watched players and have to thank you for such an in depth list. It was a brilliant read. I couldn’t help but notice though that a lot of the players on this list would best fit a 3 at the back with wing backs system. Do you have any information on that being the case? We only appear to be focussing on wing backs rather than your more traditional full backs. I think it would be a great tactical switch and would suit a lot of our current players if it was a 343.

 0

{Ed002's Note - It will depend on ten Hag departing and a replacement.}

 4

26 Apr 2024 02:33:35
Are united looking at coaches who will play 3 at the back?

 0

{Ed002's Note - No, they are look at coaches - some may play different formations.}

 2

26 Apr 2024 16:25:05
Thanks for the reply Ed. It would certainly seem like the players you have mentioned would fit a back 3 system, especially those who you have hinted to being the first choice in their position. We’ll have to see what happens and who takes over.

 0

26 Apr 2024 19:27:30
Southgate loves a back 3 doesn't he. I pray to God Ineos have their homework done and steer well clear.

28 Apr 2024 12:04:08
I've actually thought for a little while that we might benefit from looking to move towards a back three type shape for several reasons.

Firstly, I think it's difficult to find the quality of players with the specific skills to suit either a double or single pivot in front of a back four. That Rodri type holding midfielder who can sit deep and shield the defence, but has the passing range on the ball to dictate play. The only one I can think of who might be good enough is Florentino Luis at Benfica. All the others are either lacking in the passing range, lack the mobility or physicality, lack the defensive nous, or don't have the intelligence to read the game to know when to step forward to win the ball and when to drop off and defend the space.

Really looking at the options available in midfield most need to play with someone who can support them in holding the midfield.

I think a back three with Martinez in the middle means we have height either side of him, while the demand on him to cover as much space would be reduced meaning he's less likely to suffer injuries.

We don't have any traditional wingers, so getting wingbacks in to replace the the full backs who aren't good enough makes sense.

We have inside forwards and roaming No.10's, playing them slightly narrower in the front three would suit all of Bruno, Mount, Rashford, Garnacho, Amad and possibly even Antony. Although I'd be tempted to try Antony as a LWB maybe in a 343 system.

It gives you a double pivot in midfield to play out from the back, along with more central options in defence. That makes is a much harder shape to press high, giving the team stability to play out.

The wide forwards playing narrower means we could create a box midfield with the double pivot, while the wide forwards can rotate with the wingbacks creating either overlapping or under lapping runs. Making the attack much less predictable. While the narrow shape through the middle makes it a much better shape defensively, with space limited to out wide, where it's less dangerous, and easier to counter press using the sidelines to win it back.

Many teams look play this way by either having an inverted fullback in midfield with the other fullback either becoming part of the back three or playing as a wide option further forward and have a midfielder drop back between the CB's to create the back three.

Regardless of what the starting formation might say, many look more like either a 3223, 3232, or a 3241 shape during the game.

Many of the best young up and coming managers have looked towards a 343 type shape as their defacto shape as it means they can have more special-ist in key positions, rather than having players rotate to play in positions they haven't typically played before. Like having a fullback in midfield or at CB.

Having a 343 means you have special-ist CB's playing at CB and special-ist midfielders playing in midfield. Leaving the wingbacks to focus more on creating chances along with inside forwards and attacking midfielders playing in their best position/ area of the pitch.

Hi ed002. With the new Graham Potter is close to joining ajax. Does that leave Southgate as firm favourite to take over if ten hag was to depart. Or has tuchel become a serious consideration. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Southgate would be ahead of Potter I would think now - he has a lot of options - then perhaps Thomas Tuchel.}

Really not sure who I’d want at the moment. By the sound of it, ENEOS and the people they’re starting to bring in will ultimately determine who we sign, and, presumably, the style of football we’ll be playing. With that in mind, I feel like what we really need is a manager who can get the players fired up and performing at their best and who knows how to manage a game.

Ten Haag has shown that he’s unable to do either of those things, but so too have a lot of the names that are being thrown around at the moment. As for some of the bigger names that were being linked with (Tuchel, Zidane, Mou), I worry that not all of them would be happy having transfer targets being determined by a committee. I’m sure that whoever we end up with will still be part of these discussions, but the club signing players that managers don’t really want (or failing to secure their top targets) is something that’s caused issues with a lot of our post-SAF managers.

25 Apr 2024 08:23:06
Lots of reports that it’s been decided we’re moving from a transition style to a more possession based style (influenced by ex-City Berarda, Wilcox, wat Nice play etc)

Is Southgate the right man to implement this style? Does anyone know what his instinctive style is?

Also, seems like Wilcox etc currently evaluating which players will be able to adapt to a more possession based style….

Can’t think of many, and thus also is a negative against Bruno, as he’s better in a quick transition.

Maybe he’ll need to go also?

Southgate wouldn't be my pick but then I don't get a say in the decision. As a supporter my role is to support the team.

I'm actually a lot less worried about who the club hire as the next manager this time. Over the past decade the running of the club has been so poor that it's been absolutely vital that we hire the right manager, as ultimately that is the guy who will decide the majority of what we do and the clubs sporting direction.

The wrong man means several years heading in the wrong direction. That's why I was concerned when we hired Mourinho. Great manager, and a good personality within football. Yet he has a very short term approach, and plays very pragmatic football. Sure he'll get you competing for things, but often at the expense of building a team for the medium to long term. That for me was the exact opposite of what we needed at that time.

This time however things are different, we aren't hiring a manager to do it all, we are hiring a head coach to manage the team. With new expert people in place and soon to be in place to plan for the long term, to think about an over arching style/ vision, to plan youth progression etc. While the next manager will have a say in transfers he won't be leading the recruitment, which means that the following manager won't be left to try and fit players signed for the previous manager into his team.

If it's Southgate and he doesn't do well then we sack him in a year or twos time with minimal impact on the team.

The squad needs a massive rebuild, we won't realistically be winning anything over the next season or two. While a massive squad turnover means playing style will be inconsistent.

Maybe Southgate's steadying hand like he's done with England won't be a bad thing. Especially if we have someone like Gary O'Neil working with him on tactics and style of play.

Either way, I don't see hiring managers as being as fundamental to our success right now as it has been over the past decade.

Maybe we’re all being a bit unfair towards Southgate in our universal opinion that we don’t want him: after all, he’s brought together a very dysfunctional England setup and got them playing together?

However, he does seem rather dour and lacking charisma, as well as sticking with favourites and appearing tactically rigid - and a bit of a “yes” man in an archaic institution.

Does anyone know a bit more about Southgate’s coaching methods, what players think of his methods and if he is actually any good?

Thanks Ed. Would there be anyone else to keep an eye on, who may be strongly linked.

{Ed002's Note - Zinedine Zidane (C) I understand an advisor told Liverpool not to discount Zidane after discussions over another job for him are delayed pending a change of club ownership. However, I think Liverpool are a very unlikely option with much preferred targets. He would perhaps like to await the Juventus job, but they have a preferred option, or to take over the French National side but that would require Didier Deschamps to step down before the next World Cup. May be offered a chance at Manchester United and should not be discounted, but again they have preferred options, but perhaps not better options. Wildcard would be Bayern Munich, Chelsea or Real Madrid but Bayern have a preferred target, the Chelsea job will most likely head elsewhere and Ancelotti will be at Madrid until 2026.

There are others who may be possible.}

Hi Ed 002

Two questions if possible

Do you think appointing Southgate is a good move? Does not look to have any discernible style with England and does not seem to play attractive/ attacking football - how do you think he would fare at Utd and club level football?

Secondly - I thought Ten Hag would be a great appointment. What do you think has gone wrong for him exactly? Is it purely the Utd set up above him or does he lack the required skill or charisma? Do players just not like him? Thanks as always.

{Ed002's Note - 1. I would not be happy with Southgate if I was a Manchester United supporter.
2. Eric ten Hag arrived at Manchester United and had to fit in to a flawed structure. He is also a miserable bugger and authoritarian.}

I’d rather keep ten Hag over Southgate. That being said, if Erik is a miserable sod, you can see this influencing the squad, as they all look miserable too.

I’d go all in for Zizou as player/ coach! 😆

Tuchel I just don’t get, and apparently he’s too strict as well.

Anyone else we’re linked with beyond these guys if Potter is going to Ajax?

Very worrying that they would offer it to Southgate.

Personally, I think ETH deserves another year under a better structure and better players.

{Ed002's Note - There are options other than Gareth Southgate.}

There are other options but the focus right now is on these options.

I still get the feeling we may go after Amorim, I'm not sure why, I'm not sure he would be the man for any style you would associate with united or any particular style I would say similar with Tuchel.

ed are you saying Southgate is top option based on the fact we have been interested in him in the past? of past on something more recent?

I'm not expecting loads of detail I just struggle to understand the thinking on him especially as a person to implement a style or structure, he may be someone who can get on with the players initially but that soon fades in club football if the wins aren't coming.

{Ed002's Note - Gareth Southgate (C) May be a safe bet for Manchester United - very much on the list for Jim Ratcliffe. Available after the Euros and has been of interest before.

For me there are better options available.}

I'd like to add my comments above about not being the man to implement a style were about Southgate not Amorim.

Thanks for the answer ed definitely seems like better options out there. though the fact you say he's on the list for SJR makes me a little hopeful that the decision in the end will be made by Berrada, Wilcox and Ashworth and they may not be as keen on Southgate.

{Ed002's Note - I would not get hopes up over Amorim.}

The fact that he is even seen as option though, jeez. And a top one at that.

Guessing amorim likely joining chelsea? And ed002 is De Zerbi an option and where is he likely going?

{Ed002's Note - Roberto de Zerbi (C) Brighton would fight to keep him but another who will certainly be discussed by Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester United with Jim Ratcliffe having a very serious interest in him. A minor issue exists in the €15M cost of Brighton releasing him. Additionally, there are termination clauses for all of his staff. Deco has de Zerbi as his preferred option for Barcelona which he has shared with Yuste and Laporte but it will not be Deco's decision and they can perhaps be excluded with avi staying another year. Not top of Chelsea's list, but on the list. Likely first choice for Bayern Munich now but they are invoking a Plan B with an interim signing. An interesting option might be Manchester City when the job becomes available. He has said he is not interested in the Liverpool job. Brighton are actively looking for a replacement and fear he may depart but will fight to keep him.

Hi Ed002,

Any chance of having a quiet word with Sir Jim about better options available than Southgate please?!

Bet he’d listen to someone as credible and well-respected as you!

Shappy why would O’Neil take a step backwards from being a head coach at Wolves (where he’s been relatively successful) to be an assistant at Utd? Maybe Ancelotti and Alonso will come be coaches under Southgate too? 😂.

Maybe with Wilcox apparently assessing the manager he will come to the conclusion that Ten Hag is the right coach for us.

He has lost his way a bit this year, maybe pressure of the job and constant scrutiny is getting him.

If Ten Hag is open to constructive criticism (I know) he might end up staying.

Fuser, I'm not saying he's going to, but that was the rumour the other week. Apparently the club are looking at hiring coaches to work with the manager rather than have all the coaching staff be hired and fired with the manager.

He would be an ambitious pick for a role like that no doubt. Do I think he'd go for it? Probably not, but I do like that my club is supposedly being ambitious enough to at least try and test the water.

De Zerbi or Zidane for me.
I’m not sure Southgate or Potter would be any better than Ten Hag if the squad is overhauled either way.
