Seen reports today of Toby Collyer going back out on loan surely we should be looking to keep him at the club with our lack of midfield options.
1.) 10 Jan 2026 03:37:01
Not sure how good he actually is? Will also depend largely I’d guess on his injury, and whether the club manage to offload Ugarte?
2.) 10 Jan 2026 09:10:23
I'd rather play him than Ugarte.
3.) 10 Jan 2026 09:52:04
It’s an easy thing to say AJH but Ugarte hasn’t suddenly turned into a poor player since his Sporting and PSG days. He’s fairly limited in passing range etc, but he’s not been played to his strengths, and he’s an experienced international midfielder who could have a role as DM in a midfield 3.
In theory, he should bring energy, tenacity and aggression to our midfield to break up play and provide extra cover for our centre backs, the question is does he have the discipline and positional sense to thrive in the Premier League. In a midfield 3 he now, like Mainoo who can play further forward, has a real chance to shine.
Collyer started well like many, but needs football to kick on. Will he get it here I don’t know. That being said, he’ll be getting the right interim coach whoever it is as either OGS, RVN or Carrick will dip into the youth system more.
4.) 10 Jan 2026 09:57:39
I agree Ajh. Ugarte has been a shocking signing. Did he come in, instead of McT?
5.) 10 Jan 2026 10:01:34
Hull are doing well and they play good football aswell. They are also on the play offs.
6.) 10 Jan 2026 10:57:15
Ultimately young players need to be playing regularly if they are going to develop and reach their potential.
I think the original plan was to loan out Collyer for the first half of the season and see how he did while we kept Sekou Kone and gave him more first team exposure to help him continue to adjust to playing in England. Then assess where both of them were in January. However, Kone's injury and Collyer's limited game time, partially due to injury, has meant that it's hard to judge where either player is right now.
Realistically the club should loan out the player they think has the best chance of having a future at the club so they can continue to develop, while keeping the other one at the club as back up.
I think given the challenging situation our club is in right now and the limited options we have in midfield I'd be tempted to loan out the younger lad Kone somewhere where he'll get regular game time, ideally in the Championship, but abroad if necessary. While keeping the more experienced Collyer (whose still building up fitness after his injury) as without a midfield signing in January (due to being managerless again) it's more likely that whoever stays will be needed as the seasons wears on and players pick up more injuries. I would expect to see Casemiro to have to miss a few games given his age and the amount he has played for us so far this season. While the rarely injured Bruno has had a spell out, Mount will pick up injuries, Mainoo has missed a bit due to injuries and Ugarte has as well.
Given that we will have a caretaker manager and the difficult situation we find ourselves in it makes more sense to rely on the more experienced Collyer in a pinch rather than throwing Kone into the mix.
7.) 10 Jan 2026 11:30:04
Ugarte has looked better playing alongside Casemeiro. Ideally the club can move him on in the summer.
Hopefully, he can find his form again, but I'm not sure if he will.
8.) 10 Jan 2026 11:45:02
Ugarte has been a massive disappointment, when you think we signed him and let McT go, albeit slightly different positions. I get why we want Rashford to leave, lack of effort, questionable commitment, but losing Scott seemed mad at the time. And this is how I now feel about Mainoo
I can't think of on evanescence when I thought I see why qe signed Ugarte. Maybe the cub is too big for him, who knows, but I would absolutely play others in front of him, including some of our youngsters.
9.) 10 Jan 2026 15:27:20
Why do you think you are not in the position to be manager of united ajh?
10.) 11 Jan 2026 07:29:29
Ugarte has been better. Still not good enough, but better nonetheless.
11.) 11 Jan 2026 13:21:43
Ugarte has been shocking since he moved to PSG. Except when he’s playing for Uruguay. Must be a confidence thing. He seemed like a player well suited to the EPL, but his defensive positioning is poor, and his passing is all over the place. I’d suspect that he’ll be sold if anyone would bid, but his value is rock bottom now.
12 Aug 2025 16:50:15
Rumours of dayot upamecano coming out at moment that he has been offered to us by Bayern.
1.) 12 Aug 2025 18:12:05
He is terrible……an accident waiting to happen, poor decision maker and rash.
2.) 12 Aug 2025 18:16:56
No way do I believe that. From what I’ve seen he’s very good.
3.) 12 Aug 2025 19:12:04
I don't rate him either he had a shocker against city a few years ago in the champions league.
I'd rather Kim Min jae if I was going for a Bayern centre back.
4.) 12 Aug 2025 21:01:27
I’m always wary of rumours stemming from an agent who is mid contract talks for that player.
5.) 12 Aug 2025 21:09:32
He has flopped at BM.
6.) 12 Aug 2025 23:46:55
I don't think I've seen many players as openly mocked by pundits during last year's Euros. But what do I know.
7.) 13 Aug 2025 11:17:13
I think this is just agent posturing to be honest.
8.) 13 Aug 2025 12:37:17
Agents, or reporters trying to generate clicks.
99% of transfer stories are complete nonsense.
9.) 13 Aug 2025 15:23:58
I know I think our CBs are bad but he is at same level as our worst one, probably Martinez.
10.) 13 Aug 2025 22:31:02
We should be pushing as hard as possible for Donnarumma! We wouldn’t need any CB’s if we had him instead of Onana.
Missed opportunity if we don’t bid and he ends up at city. They can’t buy him unless Ederson leaves so we could nip in and beat them to him.

After watching the game back today and seeing how well our midfield played what's everyone's thoughts on what we need to do in the summer to transform it
For me if we could I'd love baleba and Wharton FIFA stuff I know.
I like Anderson but I think he would be a kobbie replacement don't see where both fit and they both be too good to warm the bench.
1.) 19 Jan 2026 17:50:12
Why don't we just figure out who Brighton will replace Baleba with and cut out the middle man.
All joking aside, I see no reason why Anderson and Kobbie can't play together. Anderson is ridiculously mobile, maybe not defensively minded as someone like Baleba, but he's solid. Plus rotation is key.
Kobbie still looks a little undercooked in terms of fitness. He looked dead on his feet the last 20 minutes on Saturday, and he's someone who can't actually ping a ball far. Maybe he'll evolve and get fitter, but he strikes me as someone who youncouldnt rely on for 90 minutes, 50 games a season.
Also, strength in depth is something we really need. I wouldn't worry about signing a player that may potentially block a path for someone else. You overcome and adapt and get better to get your place back.
Anderson, Wharton and Baleba who improve our squad no end. Need to finish the season strong though because we're no longer top of the food chain when it comes to buying players.
2.) 19 Jan 2026 19:37:32
I’d take Wharton if he’s available in the summer. He’s a class act. We’ve not had a proper controlling midfielder since probably Carrick.
Baleba is explosive box to box and can cover ground better than most in the prem but I think we need someone who can dictate the game from the middle.
3.) 19 Jan 2026 21:09:47
Surely Anderson would slot into midfield next to Mainoo in place of Casemiro?
4.) 19 Jan 2026 21:50:03
I would stay clear of Baleba. He’s been shocking most of this season. Maybe if he was £30m, but not at the over inflated price Brighton will want. i'm sure there’s far better out there for that kind of money.
5.) 20 Jan 2026 04:47:49
I don’t get all this love for Baleba… based on what one decent break out season is supposed to make him a world beater 80m plus player, I don’t see it at all plus not exactly pulled up any trees this season as he….
People seem to get fixated on a player weather he any better than what we have, that was done when Antony come, Sancho come, Onana come, Rasmus come and even Sesko, none of them turned out good enough, not sure Baleba would either.
6.) 20 Jan 2026 11:21:34
I think we need Athleticism in CM. I guess depending how Mainoo finishes the season will dictate the profile of CM. I was very critical of Baleba and his start to the season, questioning his mentality but it seems there have been a number of reasons for his poor form I think I read.
I saw a bit of him yesterday when he came on and his profile could be exactly what we need and compliment Mainoo. If we could get two in, Anderson would be my first choice followed my Baleba based off of Mainoo staying. Wharton and Anderson if Mainoo was to move on.
7.) 20 Jan 2026 13:07:06
Of the 3 we're linked mostly with (Anderson, Wharton, Baleba) I think Wharton is the most suited to what Utd needs. I think we'll be in for two mids, can't see both being from this top tier though so the other maybe under the radar from the continent.
8.) 20 Jan 2026 14:38:35
With our current midfield we are best suited to midblock which doesn't serve us well in games we'll want to/have to control the possession in. Athleticism in there is essential. Anderson is the clear top target. Wharton is good but he's less dynamic.
Baleba could be very good. If Mainoo is to establish himself as a starter I think the important thing is to get someone that complements him. That points more strongly towards Anderson. And actually towards Ederson for that matter.
07 Jan 2026 20:09:14
Igor thiago anyone scoring for fun at Brentford. Maybe even Keith Andrews.
1.) 07 Jan 2026 23:41:08
More of Shay Lacey instead please!
2.) 08 Jan 2026 08:52:49
He was ace Eric, I thought that first one was in when it left his boot.
3.) 08 Jan 2026 16:38:10
Let's not go overboard he had 2 shots decent efforts neither hit the target. He likes a shot had a couple on target in his previous appearance.
He has been well touted for a while so hopefully he will improve and learn. Had a few niggly injuries from 16-18 so stalled a little but seems to be over the worst of that.
With a shortage of wingers in the squad he could well get plenty of opportunities under the likes of Carrick and fletcher. Seems like a nice lad too. Hope he keeps his feet on the ground and stays true to himself.
4.) 08 Jan 2026 17:19:21
And stays off insta and away from the likely. lads in the dressing room Ken!
5.) 08 Jan 2026 17:25:59
Easy Ken. Just said want to see more of him. Promising cameo indeed and he had a go. More than can be said for many of them.
05 Jan 2026 17:11:17
As we sit here and reflect as another manager leaves our club what are people's thoughts on who our next manager should be there is lots of options out there but are they the right choice.
Iraola xavi hoeness glasner maresca McKenna tuchel Southgate
Only 2 inspire me and that is hoeness and iraola.
1.) 05 Jan 2026 17:42:37
Im bored of it at this point, we've employed so many managers and none of them have worked out, always having to try and work with the c***s above, from Woodward, Arnold and Murtough and now to these mugs in charge. Its boring and pointless, and for the first time I think none of it changes without a change in ownership.
Id like Iraola but like everyone else he'll do well initially, maybe get CL football and then we'd settle in the market and not push for challenging for the titles. BORED.
2.) 05 Jan 2026 17:46:11
Glasner, but we shouldn't be here ?.
3.) 05 Jan 2026 18:00:43
It really doesn’t matter who. There will be some here already sharpening their knives for his back whoever he is. Christ on a stick some will even be sharpening the guillotine blade for Fletcher should he lose v Burnley.
The club, and some here have lost the plot entirely. I suspect some of the most vociferous on here have only been fans since SAF turned the club around and are a part of the entitled generation who seem to think that we have a divine right.
4.) 05 Jan 2026 18:27:14
Johnreese Iraola? Seriously? Please enlighten us. Bournemouth are currently 15th in the league and hasn't managed anywhere near at the level required. what makes you think he is good enough?
5.) 05 Jan 2026 19:21:34
His team has been decimated, sold half his team!
6.) 05 Jan 2026 19:47:42
Beyond caring about names anymore, I don’t think anyone can fix it. We will soon be looking for number eight or nine, not sure I’m losing count now.
7.) 06 Jan 2026 05:02:54
Bournemouth lost their entire first choice back four including their keeper the past summer. Any team would struggle with that.
8.) 06 Jan 2026 17:25:27
Dracred, and? What about the previous years? What about his record at Larnaca, Mirandés or Rayo Vallecano? Nothing of any substance whatsoever.
05 Jan 2026 10:05:17
Well Ruben amorim has been sacked pretty much inevitable after yesterday's comments but really Jason Wilcox should be following him out the door for me.
27 Dec 2025 09:05:11
Great win last night and a brilliant performance.
I made a few observations that I'd like to hear peoples opinons on.
Shaw is still a top tier left back if fitness could stay with him
Martinez needs to stay fit our best defender
Cas and ugarte together stops our midfield being walked through
Mount was really good we missed him when he went off (imagine Bruno in that ten position)
Sesko needs a goal badly.
1.) 27 Dec 2025 09:33:35
Martinez is awesome, if he could string a long run together he would have a major impact.
I think the chnage in formation helps our midfield, and would really do so wh3n we have Bruno as a CM.
Sesko is a strange one, he looks like he has huge potemtial, but as you say, he needs a goal.
2.) 27 Dec 2025 10:23:34
First time poster
Been reading here for ever.
Great win last night. Great team effort.
Still i am now more sure than ever that Yoro and Dalot can't play on the same side. They don't trust each other. You could see that last night and against Villa. Plus they are compulsive ball watchers and rarely watch the player they are supposed to mark.
3.) 27 Dec 2025 10:46:00
Was at the game last night. I think your assessment is spot on John. I'd add that Cunha was unbelievably good in the first half. Dorgu looked brilliant all game. Second half we lacked enough players to put their foot on the ball and take control. Ugarte positionally is poor - both in and out of possession. Also Dalot is shockingly bad. Just a glaring weakness.
We desperately need to get reinforcements for both the right and left flanks. I'm not a fan of Dalot anyway but last night it was blatantly obvious how many things he does badly.
It was a fortunate win but we've had a lot of games we deserved more out of go against us, so I'm delighted. A couple of smart reinforcements and we can be a really good side.
4.) 27 Dec 2025 12:35:34
Cunha is brilliant donred proper player
Dalot and ugarte definitely weak links if we're going back 4 I think mazraoui would be brilliant at right back we are very short in midfield.
5.) 27 Dec 2025 14:40:59
I thought in the first Ugaurte played well and worked well with Case.
Dorgu played unbelievably well, especially on the RW. The first half was a joy to behold. The team looked an played with confidence.
It really was a game of two halves. After the break and Mount not coming back on, Utd looked different. Then they changed to 3 at the back.
Heaven and Martinez were fantastic yesterday.
6.) 27 Dec 2025 15:06:41
I thought Sesko looked far better with Mount behind him. I think he needs a player to link with, play one-twos, and make runs off the playmaker. He was getting in good positions during the first half, and overall the team looked far more comfortable in the 4-5-1.
7.) 27 Dec 2025 16:20:37
I think too many are pushing their own preferences for the formation. Amorim feels 3-4-3 is the best one to allow most flexibility. The interview with Glasner on Sky Sports articulated it very well. Right now Amorim thinks we don't have the personnel for that formation and has adapted the set up. That's great to see. But I fully expect him to go back to 3-4-3 when the Afcon players return - in most games anyway.
I'd disagree that the team looks more comfortable in 4-5-1. We were very lucky yesterday. In any formation we have to play weak players and that's what's undermining us right now. What Amorim has shown now is that he recognises the need to use the formation that minimises those weak points.
8.) 27 Dec 2025 17:49:43
I don't have a preference per se, I just wanted to see some flexibility instead of always insisting only 1 way could work.
9.) 27 Dec 2025 18:18:16
Welcome Zanred!
Good result and performance.
So pleased to be back at back 4 and appreciate we have 5 at the back knowledge now too.
Lammens, solid. Heaven, very accomplished, Martinez, top quality, Shaw better at LB, Dorgu, improving.
16 Jan 2026 18:51:47
Weston McKennie not a world beater but a decent midfielder if we're going to play a midfield 3 I think we need another midfielder would be a good option.
06 Jan 2026 19:51:33
Must have fell into a time machine and gone all the way back to 2018 man utd manager gets sacked after outburst at board ole Gunnar solsjaer. Steadys the sip .
17 Dec 2025 13:45:13
Seems like with the interest in centre backs means Martinez and Shaw aren't seen as long terms solutions at the club with the amount of left sided players in the list.
I'd love to see Anderson in the midfield along side kobbie and Bruno if we got to 433.
28 Sep 2025 13:26:51
I don't want Southgate anywhere near the club, but I can't help but know deep down that he would of got results for us with this team.
31 Aug 2025 20:20:07
Diogo Costa for me villa would be getting a far better deal if we take Martinez and they get Costa.
23 Jan 2026 11:23:36
Casemiro Maguire and Bruno are 3 of the top 5 of our highest earners still on the books so it makes sense why we would want to move them on this summer.
23 Jan 2026 09:41:32
Think them players leaving are a solid call Karl although I can see Maguire getting another year which I wouldn't be against we have the keeper from Bristol coming back from loan who I think is good enough to be number 2.
Baleba looks like he might be out first buy depending on money seeing as what was said in the summer.
19 Jan 2026 12:43:45
I doubt we will dismantle arsenal's defence like city's but I'm confident of a really good match.
Think if we take our chances we will win we've been guilt of missing too many good ones this year.
17 Jan 2026 19:03:46
A big win for us and even more so with Liverpool dropping points.
Let's be realistic we need top 4 this year without a doubt for the money it brings and the draw for the likes of the balebas the Andersons the whartons to play champions League football.
16 Jan 2026 15:10:00
No to glasner for me a poor manager and worse person.
Mateta would be good option to have with sesko for the right price we need another striker next year if we are serious about challenging on all fronts.
Somebody suggested ilyman ndiaye yesterday too which I thought was a great shout for the left wing.
Murillo from forest is also being linked who I wouldn't be against either.
