Seen reports today of Toby Collyer going back out on loan surely we should be looking to keep him at the club with our lack of midfield options.

Johnreese

1.) 10 Jan 2026 03:37:01
Not sure how good he actually is? Will also depend largely I’d guess on his injury, and whether the club manage to offload Ugarte?

2.) 10 Jan 2026 09:10:23
I'd rather play him than Ugarte.

3.) 10 Jan 2026 09:52:04
It’s an easy thing to say AJH but Ugarte hasn’t suddenly turned into a poor player since his Sporting and PSG days. He’s fairly limited in passing range etc, but he’s not been played to his strengths, and he’s an experienced international midfielder who could have a role as DM in a midfield 3.

In theory, he should bring energy, tenacity and aggression to our midfield to break up play and provide extra cover for our centre backs, the question is does he have the discipline and positional sense to thrive in the Premier League. In a midfield 3 he now, like Mainoo who can play further forward, has a real chance to shine.

Collyer started well like many, but needs football to kick on. Will he get it here I don’t know. That being said, he’ll be getting the right interim coach whoever it is as either OGS, RVN or Carrick will dip into the youth system more.

4.) 10 Jan 2026 09:57:39
I agree Ajh. Ugarte has been a shocking signing. Did he come in, instead of McT?

5.) 10 Jan 2026 10:01:34
Hull are doing well and they play good football aswell. They are also on the play offs.

6.) 10 Jan 2026 10:57:15
Ultimately young players need to be playing regularly if they are going to develop and reach their potential.

I think the original plan was to loan out Collyer for the first half of the season and see how he did while we kept Sekou Kone and gave him more first team exposure to help him continue to adjust to playing in England. Then assess where both of them were in January. However, Kone's injury and Collyer's limited game time, partially due to injury, has meant that it's hard to judge where either player is right now.

Realistically the club should loan out the player they think has the best chance of having a future at the club so they can continue to develop, while keeping the other one at the club as back up.

I think given the challenging situation our club is in right now and the limited options we have in midfield I'd be tempted to loan out the younger lad Kone somewhere where he'll get regular game time, ideally in the Championship, but abroad if necessary. While keeping the more experienced Collyer (whose still building up fitness after his injury) as without a midfield signing in January (due to being managerless again) it's more likely that whoever stays will be needed as the seasons wears on and players pick up more injuries. I would expect to see Casemiro to have to miss a few games given his age and the amount he has played for us so far this season. While the rarely injured Bruno has had a spell out, Mount will pick up injuries, Mainoo has missed a bit due to injuries and Ugarte has as well.

Given that we will have a caretaker manager and the difficult situation we find ourselves in it makes more sense to rely on the more experienced Collyer in a pinch rather than throwing Kone into the mix.

7.) 10 Jan 2026 11:30:04
Ugarte has looked better playing alongside Casemeiro. Ideally the club can move him on in the summer.

Hopefully, he can find his form again, but I'm not sure if he will.

8.) 10 Jan 2026 11:45:02
Ugarte has been a massive disappointment, when you think we signed him and let McT go, albeit slightly different positions. I get why we want Rashford to leave, lack of effort, questionable commitment, but losing Scott seemed mad at the time. And this is how I now feel about Mainoo

I can't think of on evanescence when I thought I see why qe signed Ugarte. Maybe the cub is too big for him, who knows, but I would absolutely play others in front of him, including some of our youngsters.

9.) 10 Jan 2026 15:27:20
Why do you think you are not in the position to be manager of united ajh?

10.) 11 Jan 2026 07:29:29
Ugarte has been better. Still not good enough, but better nonetheless.

11.) 11 Jan 2026 13:21:43
Ugarte has been shocking since he moved to PSG. Except when he’s playing for Uruguay. Must be a confidence thing. He seemed like a player well suited to the EPL, but his defensive positioning is poor, and his passing is all over the place. I’d suspect that he’ll be sold if anyone would bid, but his value is rock bottom now.

Rumours of dayot upamecano coming out at moment that he has been offered to us by Bayern.

Johnreese

1.) 12 Aug 2025 18:12:05
He is terrible……an accident waiting to happen, poor decision maker and rash.

2.) 12 Aug 2025 18:16:56
No way do I believe that. From what I’ve seen he’s very good.

3.) 12 Aug 2025 19:12:04
I don't rate him either he had a shocker against city a few years ago in the champions league.
I'd rather Kim Min jae if I was going for a Bayern centre back.

4.) 12 Aug 2025 21:01:27
I’m always wary of rumours stemming from an agent who is mid contract talks for that player.

5.) 12 Aug 2025 21:09:32
He has flopped at BM.

6.) 12 Aug 2025 23:46:55
I don't think I've seen many players as openly mocked by pundits during last year's Euros. But what do I know.

7.) 13 Aug 2025 11:17:13
I think this is just agent posturing to be honest.

8.) 13 Aug 2025 12:37:17
Agents, or reporters trying to generate clicks.

99% of transfer stories are complete nonsense.

9.) 13 Aug 2025 15:23:58
I know I think our CBs are bad but he is at same level as our worst one, probably Martinez.

10.) 13 Aug 2025 22:31:02
We should be pushing as hard as possible for Donnarumma! We wouldn’t need any CB’s if we had him instead of Onana.
Missed opportunity if we don’t bid and he ends up at city. They can’t buy him unless Ederson leaves so we could nip in and beat them to him.

As talk of Lewis Hall has gathered some pace, what are people's thoughts?
I for one think he is a top player who could be our left back for a decade.
I do think, though, that Newcastle over the last 2 seasons have shown themselves to be an absolute shambles of a club when it comes to transfers.

Johnreese

1.) 02 Aug 2026 17:41:06
I think that, if he is a priority signing, the club has dawdled. Newcastle have already sold a few players for big money and can now afford to keep Hall if we don't match their valuation. He has years left on his contract, and if he's worth buying, his value will increase.

Personally, I don't think we will pay what Newcastle ask. My prediction is that the club will fall back on Rashford being lw backup and Dorgu being lb backup.

2.) 02 Aug 2026 17:43:11
Great little. Would be a great investment, imo.

3.) 02 Aug 2026 20:31:01
Just get it done.

4.) 02 Aug 2026 20:47:40
If Newcastle don't want to sell them, I don't want an iask type situation to develop.
If they say no or want 70m, if he forced his way out, then id say move on.
He is a good player, id like him to sign, but not at any cost.

Danny, if we can't shift Rashford, that may well be the case.
It will be interesting to see if he plays a part in the remaining friendly games.

5.) 03 Aug 2026 09:11:51
Hall would be a brilliant signing. At some point, Newcastle will likely say no; we're not selling any more players after Bruno goes.

I'd imagine that they are now in a good financial position. Hall will likely cost a lot more now, unless he asks to leave and will only go to Utd.

If Utd don't buy a CF, then a CB and LB are definitely required. A solid midfield and defence will be significantly beneficial for the upcoming season. We are almost there with our midfield.

6.) 03 Aug 2026 15:21:06
I don't think getting the huge figures they sold Isaak Tonali and prob Bruno G is shambolic.

21 Apr 2026 15:19:34
I just want to say I thought Michael Oliver had a really good game Saturday night. Not often you can say that about referee's nowadays.

Johnreese

1.) 22 Apr 2026 07:25:35
That's his job!

2.) 22 Apr 2026 19:30:32
Ports, channeling your inner Roy Keane?

14 Feb 2026 15:24:41
As we hear more and more of our options being ruled out of the running for the job I'm finding it really hard to see anyone bit Carrick being appointed in the summer.
My question to everyone is would you rather Carrick than
De zebri a fiery character and poor tactically
Glasner same as de zebri
Iraola plays good football.

Southgate less said the better
Marco Silva plays good football but was found out at Everton.

Johnreese

1.) 14 Feb 2026 16:14:49
Dont need to have an opinion right now. Carrick, Steve et al are stabilizing the club. Just wait a little longer and see how it goes.

2.) 14 Feb 2026 19:40:34
Panic panic must appoint Carrick. Have we learnt nothing?
What I saw from West Ham game was no real innovation to change the game.
Without harking back too much, what does the club want? They appointed a change manager in RA, so what is the overall strategy going forward on the next manager? We don’t know but Carrick isn’t that change guy, doesn’t seem dynamic like say Pep was or Conte. We can’t just go with the comfy slippers of Carrick because it is easy.

I don’t trust either lot in power that Carrick would be the easy option, wouldn’t scream about a lack of signings and the gravy train would carry on.

Said a number of years ago Diego Simeone and he would shake things up. I see his boring team stuffed Barcelona the other day. We have to see what they want to do but please let's not sit and say the only option is Carrick.

3.) 14 Feb 2026 21:30:08
I couldn't agree more.
13 games left that's the only thing I'm interested in at the moment.

01 Feb 2026 16:44:11
Another good battling win for Michael Carrick but our quality in midfield really drops off when casemiro goes off ugarte is way off it.

Johnreese

1.) 01 Feb 2026 17:34:19
Raging i missed it. saw we were 2 up then didn't see result till i got to car. Great finish to the game i'd say. Big will. Roll on next week.

2.) 01 Feb 2026 18:16:29
Conner Gallagher was the guy we needed this Jan to add to squad depth.

Firstly, I realize it was probably not an option. Because he possibly wanted guarantees to start. And we are not able to give him that guarantee.

But this guy has all the minerals we need as a casemiro replacement. He can play defensive, but also has legs, can pass. But also could come on for kobbie or wider on the wing. Very good player who was available who can impact the team in many ways as we hunt for UCL spot.

If we finish this window without a center mid signing it is madness. Kobbie not ready to guarantee 90 mins every game without injury or drop off. Casemiro is a 70 min player who will leave in the summer. Ugarte is way off the level required and not good enough to be a starter.

So we would need possibly 3 center mids this year, possibly even 4. Not sure anyone from youth is ready. Kobbie, whilst a good player, should not be 1 of 3 players. We need 4 strong center mids plus maybe Kone from youth to develop for future.

3.) 01 Feb 2026 19:05:45
I wonder if Mount could play that No8 role when Cas moves on? He’s got the engine for it (if fit), and technical nous to play it?

4.) 01 Feb 2026 19:44:48
Eric I think Mount could fill in as a sub option but he's not suited to no.8. He's the extra midfield support player. Maybe out left against big teams. But tbh I think pushing Bruno further up means we'll see very little of Mount. Mainoo's problem has become Mount's! If Bruno stays this summer, I wouldn't be surprised if we sell Mount.

5.) 01 Feb 2026 20:17:52
If mount can stay fit, he can grab a spot on the bench, that's it. Rather he got fit and was transferred.

6.) 01 Feb 2026 20:36:34
Mount was injured again today. Dorgu out injured and he has a chance to play and is unavailable.

Bruno was injured and mount was injured and unavailable.

The guy is just to fragile and can't be relied on. Can't build a team around players who can't stay fit. We have suffered at leftback because we think shaw will come back and play (keep buying cheap stop gaps) . I worry about Martinez, who is a baller on the ball, but injuries have been a problem for 2 seasons.

I don't think mount can play CM as he is made of glass but also doesn't have the physicality to win the fight in there. He is a good presser who tends to nick the ball away and closes from intelligent angles. But never struck me as a good 8.

What's the opinion on the links to ilyman ndiaye.

Johnreese

1.) 27 Jan 2026 18:30:10
Do we need a right winger?
Do we need another AFCON player?

2.) 27 Jan 2026 18:55:06
We must be playing Everton soon.

3.) 27 Jan 2026 21:47:45
Probably don't need a other winger or afcon player TBF but people would happily have taken semenyo who plays for Ghana or diomande.

4.) 28 Jan 2026 11:58:52
He's naturally a left winger but got moved to the right because of jack grealishs arrival.
We are also missing a natural right footed wide left winger.

If there's an issue, I think we have to pull out of the deal. We've seen it before, with Mount and Bailly, when there's an issue in the medical and how it pans out.

I think we have been caught out in a summer where prices are probably 30 million dearer than they should be, New Name, and unfortunately we aren't gonna go to them prices.
I'd imagine our board saw Anderson as an 80 to 85 million player.
Fernandes as maybe 55 to 60.

Rashford's problem is the fact he isn't a good enough player to start every week. He has had one good season where he did really well.
We talk a lot about wages, but in reality Bruno is worth 300 thousand a week because he plays every game.

You can't pay Rashford 325 to sit on the bench, that is where a wage bill gets pulled into it.
