At the end of the day that could be Rochdale lifting that cup! That's what state ownership buys you!

They've equaled our treble, perhaps it was inevitable but let's not pretend this means anything or comes anywhere near close.

Utd are European pioneers, trail blazers, a Club decimated by tragedy, a young team destroyed on the brink of glory, denied the chance to write its own history, from the ashes of Munich to the Kings of Europe a story of courage, determination, perseverance and a undefinable spirit.

From Fa youth Cup winners to an historical treble, a team built on youth, coached and engineered on the fields of The Cliff, playing in the shadows of ghosts and immortals this is our story and it's one that Dirham's can't buy!

(Until we get the Qatar Riyal of course ?)

No need to diminish anything about what City hav3 achieved, a fantastic team with fantastic owners and a fanaszic manager. Congratulations its well deserved.

Its up to Uniteds owners, staff and players to get good enough to beat them and not stip trying to progress until they do.

Of course there is still the spectre of them losing all those titles to the courts! But that will drag on for years to come with appeal after appeal.

Brandon Williams posted a 5 word message that sum's it up perfectly - 'Nobody wants a sloppy seconds'
Don't think I would sell him just for that! Exactly the attitude needed.

DLIB a lot of what you mentioned is exactly why I don’t want state ownership.

City are on another level. Creating history season after season. And here we are, just living in history. Move on. Cherish your past but don't try to recreate it. Time has moved on and so has football.

Couldn’t care less who wins what, city are currently the benchmark and we need to get after them! I feel really confident in ETH but until ownership is addressed I think we’ll always be short!

115 charges, no way they are within ffp rules last 15 years so tainted at least and down right cheating at worst. Anyway they are the most bland bunch of players ever assembled and their 2023 treble journey is about as interesting as watching paint dry. We have our own history, proper history. Let's hope justice is served and they get stripped and relegated.

Well done City!

Credit is due where credit is earned.

At least it wasn't Liverpool winning the treble.

Lads it was tongue in cheek, a hollow attempt of defiance. Football has moved on!

You can no longer consistently compete at the top without massive investment.

The scary thing is they’re creating history whilst we’re living in the past. It’s time to move forward, to accept and appreciate the situation and sheer size of the task ahead. We can’t continue to cuddle ourselves to sleep reciting history every night.

We have owners that are only interested in trading on our history and not making it. Reports suggest they want to stay, but why? Not to hunt down City, not to win trophies, not to invest in the academy, not to create a centre of excellence and provide us with the best stadium and training facilities but simply because they believe they can still make more money. They refuse to accept the billions on offer and are now creating massive uncertainty and undermining the best manager we’ve had in years.

Maybe they were busy congratulating City, like some of you are so keen to do as we languish in mediocrity, believing that someone who wants to make a pact with the parasites can succeed, still burdened with debt and a toxic payload on board. So I will suck it up but with the realisation that until the Glazers are gone nights like this belong to other Clubs.

That hurt last night, they’ve equalled our treble and whilst they’re plotting the next one what are we doing? Turning Mason Mount into this summers transfer saga!

Let's be realistic and at the same time not mean spirited. If the charges against City are proved then they will deserve to be punished fully and all their trophies acquired recently should be taken away from them.

That said the blunt truth is that with Pep steering them they have been fantastic these past few years and have been the best team this season. The players have performed to an exceptionally high level (after a world Cup) and found ways to win when needed.

Making comparisons between achievements of different teams and different eras is almost impossible. For example I don't think this City team used to playing on perfect pitches would have been able to produce the same quality of football as on the pitches played on by teams in the 1970s.

The nature of the game has changed now too. The attackers are so well protected that robust challenges by defenders are now routinely treated as fouls. In the eras of the great Liverpool and Utd teams of recent decades the teams really had a physical presence that I don't believe this City could stand up to and still play like they do. I would go so far as to say that Liverpool of the 70s and Utds best teams would have beaten this City team. But that's just my opinion.

Meantime as others have pointed out Utd need to recruit well and match and surpass this City team. It won't be easy and I sincerely hope it is done and without dirty money.

Some great posts above. I’ll echo what others have said……until we get ownership sorted, and that means ownership that invests in the football club as a whole…. we aren’t going anywhere. Sadly money talks in football now, and unless we get with the program we’ll be light years behind. If City have cheated and got away with it then fair one, that’s the big nasty world of sport we live in.

I was a little conflicted watching. I will always support an English team in Europe. Flying the flag, and all that. But pretty quickly turned off once the celebrations began. Sloppy seconds etc, Bayern were probably saying the same when Utd beat them to it all those years ago.

Little bitter on here today. Well deserved regardless of the situation.

{Ed002's Note - Embarrassingly bitter - says a huge amount about the so called fans, particularly those desparate for Arab ownership.

11 Jun 2023 12:24:44
Ed 002. People should show some grace but the truth is nearly all fans would show bitterness if their biggest rival had emulated their team. Cannot imagine most City fans not behaving in the same way if the roles were reversed

Re those wanting Arab ownership I totally agree.

{Ed002's Note - It is simply embarrassing bitterness from supporters who crave Arab money to allow them to attempt to do the same.}

18.) 11 Jun 2023
11 Jun 2023 12:57:03
Exactly ed.
All good for banter but they have been exceptional for years now and the win was well deserved.

We can delve into how they did it, state ownership etc another time. But the players on the pitch still have to go out and do it.

19.) 11 Jun 2023
11 Jun 2023 13:03:19
I agree ED002.

In some ways, supporters should be glad that an English club has won an elite European trophy.

The ironic thing is, Utd have spent similar to City since the Arabs took over, and have won far less. That always seems to get forgotten.

20.) 11 Jun 2023
11 Jun 2023 13:04:02
Ed name me one other set of fans who would be glad their rivals are smashing it

NOT ONE.

{Ed002's Note - Nobody is expecting ytou to be glad but you are making yourselves look stupid.}

City's achievements don't take away ours, they don't dilute them or change them in any way. United weren't even in the competition so who wins it doesn't matter in my eyes.

Regardless of the potential skeletons in their closet and how they fund things, the fact is from day 1 of their ownership they've had a plan and stuck to it. Their owners put in billions while our owners take out billions.

But from our own ineptitude we've spend similar sums on players and wages* (maybe not officially) but mismanagement, no direction, poor scouting, poor everything to be honest, we've fell off a cliff in terms of quality.

City are the benchmark to catch. Being bitter about their achievements won't make us any better or our trophy cabinet any bigger. The challenge is there for the club, rise to it or fail but never complain about another team winning a competition.

What if you're one of the fans who don't want state ownership precisely because of the points made in the OP? If united are owned by a Qatari Sheik next season I'm out. Bitterness plays no part in it. I'm against ANY club owned by states (especially those who literally think of some of their citizens as less than others) even if it's my own. If we won the quadruple under Qatari ownership in 2025 (or whatever) I'd be saying exactly the same things against "my team". Football is soulless these days - I think I'll switch to Icelandic Women's Volleyball or something.

23.) 11 Jun 2023
11 Jun 2023 14:45:47
I take it you don't believe the Qatari Sheik when he says it's his own personal money and his own personal ownership and not state ownership?

24.) 11 Jun 2023
11 Jun 2023 15:02:28
Ed is right. We can’t criticise city for their financial power and charges brought against them etc, especially if you favour the Qatari money.

Personally I don’t want us to be state owned. I don’t want us to be a sportswashing project. If that means I see limited success the rest of my life so be it. I’ve memories that will last me a lifetime.

25.) 11 Jun 2023

I would like to get rid of the Glazers, including the debt that they saddled us with. The way it was done right from day one was a disgrace and should never have been allowed.

That said, who I would like to take over is a difficult one. Yes the I thought of being owned by a state like Qatar leaves a very bad taste, but also any person or company that has amassed enough wealth to be able to buy a football team for billions of pounds is unlikely to have done that without some serious issues. Ineos for example being a chemical company must have added to the environmental issues that we see all around us and hear every day of the week. Yes it’s not all their fault, but they have made huge money whilst doing it which is my point.

We as fans have no control over what happens, or who owns us, and whoever does end up owning us will have issues either with who they are, who they represent, how they amassed their fortune etc.

As a fan I just want the club being run properly by someone who gives a sh*t about it and puts the money needed into it rather than just taking it out and not giving a sh*t. Unfortunately it will either be SJR who can’t buy us out totally now and will likely leave the debt and Glazers around with the renovation work up in the air, or the Sheikh who is backed by god knows who but who will put the money in to do what is needed. Third option is the glazers stay on and seek extra funding, god only knows what that would mean though.

Fun times!

26.) 11 Jun 2023
11 Jun 2023 17:16:35
Don't care what anybody says. I would prefer a Qatari Sheikh run us outright, instead of the Glazers or Sir Jim and his protracted deal with the Glazers. To those who question the Qataris religious practices/ beliefs tell them to take it up with God. His laws were in place before Qatar chose to keep and enforce them. To those questioning human rights. Name me one country in the world which doesn't violate human rights. Just a bunch of hypocrites who choose to focus on a certain region of the world, hoping that others will pay less attention to the atrocities that takes place in theirs.

{Ed014's Note - oh cool that makes it all alright then. Who knew

27.) 11 Jun 2023
11 Jun 2023 17:40:31
I find it pretty narrow minded those who are critical of the Qatar offer. It’s a case of “what do you actually want? ”

If the debts are cleared and the club has investment that we’ve so craved……who cares where the money comes from? We’ve had to put up with the parasitic Glazers for years who haven’t invested a penny of their net fortune, instead they’ve been bleeding the club dry. And if you think SJR is our knight in shining armour with company morals to boot……you’re sadly mistaken. Ineos are as murky as anyone.

For the record, I’m not a massive fan of state ownership (which we are only surmising anyway) but we need major investment to compete. That’s the world we live in wether we like it or not. The ground, training facilities, surrounding infrastructure, squad……. all needs major investment. I’d love SJR to come in and do that, but unfortunately he hasn’t got the clout and it opens the door for the Glazers to retain a seat at the table. Based on that, if I had to choose, it would be Qatar all day long for me.

100% 002. I won't sit here and lie that I don't want the oil money. At the end of the day that is the only way I see us competing again. Hats off to them, it took long enough but they did it.

Best team on the planet. Didn't want them to win, but I don't begrudge them it either.
