Out of interest, are United linked with Watkins at all?

Redsredsreds

1.) 12 Jun 2025 06:58:20
I don’t know but we have been linked to him for a while and Villa are under PSR pressure.

It doesn’t look like Barcelona want Rashford so perhaps the deal to be done with Villa for Watkins

Watkins seems more likely than Gyokeres.

2.) 12 Jun 2025 08:22:52
Whilst I am sure that Emery would like to keep Rashford the fact they do not have Champions League and have a PSR issue that his wages will not fit into I do not see this one happening.

Similarly with Barcalona I think Flick likes Rashford but their financial situation is not great. At best this would be an loan with a decent loan fee with option to buy. If we could sort a fee out for sale this is probably the one club Rashford may take a decent salary reduction to go too.

This could end up being a Lukaku situation at Chelsea where we loan him with decent loan fee and wages covered for a couple of years and then sell for far reduced fee!

3.) 12 Jun 2025 12:59:56
Maybe we should have thrown the Villa game to facilitate his sale?.

4.) 12 Jun 2025 13:07:33
He is a decent player, better than what we have, but is he good enough to take us to the top table?

5.) 12 Jun 2025 13:30:53
Or he could get his head down, work hard, and play for Manchester United!

6.) 12 Jun 2025 16:22:48
He will be 30 by the time next season finishes. Good player but not what's needed. United need to avoid players that are looking for their last big contract.

7.) 15 Jun 2025 07:28:15
So what your past it at 29/ 30 now, experience counts for nothing now either then?
I would rather have a 29 year old Watkins who at least can finish than a 22 year old Rasmus who can’t do much of anything very good.

It feels like the consensus is to go for Tonali and Anderson but I think we'll end up getting one of these players rather than both. United more recently haven't been afraid of walking away from overpriced deals and there will be competition to go for these players (City also being interested in Anderson). Maybe the right move would be to go for a more affordable but still consistent midfielder alongside one of Tonali/Anderson.

Names that come to mind would be to go for Garner or Joao Gomes, who will likely both be available in a better price bracket and are reliable options. Bruno used to speak highly of Garner prior to his move away, or there are some other players that should be considered like Hayden Hackney and Amadou Onana.

If I was a being man, and I'm not, I'd bet on us signing Baleba.
I hope we don't sign Wharton. I have not seen anything to suggest he is at the level required, or can get there.
Anderson, I really like the look of him and think he has a lot to offer and will improve.
Tonali is a player I admire, but I don't see it happening.
Bruno G, top player, I really like him. Is he attainable? I've no idea.
Gomes, good player.
Andre, good player.
Stiller, I know nothing about.
Garner would have happened on a free if we wanted him, but he just signed a new contract at Everton.
Lots of other options no doubt. I'm confident we will get good players.
It will be dependent on what our head coach thinks we need, I'm sure.
I suppose we just have to wait and see what happens, who we sign, and take it from there.

I'm not sure how anybody can say who we should sign until we know who the manager is, their philosophy and style of play, etc. Just saying we should sign this player or that player makes zero sense when we know so little, imo.
Some players can transcend seamlessly from coach to coach, others not so much.
Personality and character is as important as ability, and the adaptability to a move is crucial, and mostly we don't know a lot about those 3 elements.
It's not an exact science, so many unknowns. There are games that exist for fantasy football. I know some really enjoy them. I've never entered, as the thought of cheering on a Liverpool or City player just to get fantasy points doesn't sit well with me. ? imo there is no silver lining on a Haaland hat trick, even if he is captained and double points. ?

2.) 19 Mar 2026 16:14:26
Ken, you're a girl?!. ?

3.) 19 Mar 2026 16:34:14
Consensus? I think that's a stretch.

4.) 19 Mar 2026 18:42:29
I'd be really happy with Baleba + Tonali/Bruno G/Anderson, 2 fullbacks and Diomande.

5.) 19 Mar 2026 18:50:40
Dream big, Scholes. ??

6.) 19 Mar 2026 19:55:27
Haha, too right, Jimbo. Dream big or go home.
Desperately want us to challenge for the league and cl. It's been so long, I forgot the feeling of it. Can't hide behind progress and processes for so long.

7.) 19 Mar 2026 22:20:06
I can't bring myself to watch the UCL, one, because we're not in it, and two, the quality has dropped significantly.

8.) 20 Mar 2026 01:51:33
Wharton is very good at splitting defences with inch-perfect, perfectly weighted passes. He might be one of those players who needs to be in a better team to be appreciated.

Paying £70m is a lot, but if you get 4 top-class years out of a player for that price, it's ok.

Lastly, if we could get Ollie Watkins for reasonable money, I think he would be a gt addition to our squad.

9.) 20 Mar 2026 06:32:47
Bruno G would be a fantastic signing. He would be the one to go for from the Newcastle team, which, by the way, have got one of the best midfields in the EPL. But lack of quality in other positions hinders them badly.

But who knows what we will do, so speculation is a bit pointless, really.

Everyone can chuck names into the ring, and most will deride those names, but what’s the point. When the club names or signs a player, then it’s worth the debate; until that, it’s all a bit childish.

10.) 20 Mar 2026 16:12:51
Childish to debate possible transfer options?
You state, 'wait until they are purchased, then debate them'? Weird. Wouldn't you just get behind the signing once signed, rather than debate it.

11.) 20 Mar 2026 22:56:44
Wharton has always reminded me a bit of Carrick. Wouldn't be too bad.

Seeing as Duran seems to be back on the market with the supposed move to the Turkish league, is there any interest in United bidding for him? He definitely has that potential as well as delivering when he was called upon for Villa. I don't know what prices are being touted however but imo would and could be a sensible striker to be moulded into what United need.

Redsredsreds

1.) 28 Jun 2025 14:22:52
I don't think the manager wants him so therefore it's not a good idea at all.

16 Jun 2025 08:02:35
Given Inters recent financial trouble and change in management, is there a chance that we could be in for Marcus Thuram for a decent price?

Personally thought that we should have gone for him when he was on a free.

Redsredsreds

1.) 16 Jun 2025 11:18:28
United always seem to ignore free transfer players, not sure why. There’s been a few over recent years that would have done well.

2.) 16 Jun 2025 14:16:03
Yes, not sure exactly why as there's definitely value there! Not saying we should necessarily go for these players but Modric and Veratti are names that spring to mind for those who have either become free agents or are close to. Admittedly towards the end of their careers but there's definitely other players in that free agency market worth looking at.

Thuram would also be the perfect match for what I think RA is looking to have but without the Champions League football, I don't think he'll look to join us at this stage but stranger things have happened!

3.) 16 Jun 2025 20:30:41
Football is played professionally all over the world, most countries are obsessed with it but every transfer window it's the same players mentioned again and again.

Looks like a great player and we should definitely be in for someone of his quality and potential! However it does really depend on whether we get priced out on the deal. Would be interesting to see how Fernerbace are structuring the deal.
