Is football just getting duller. I'm not sure is it the saturation of news everyday now or VAR, or everybody wanting to play the same bloody style, or maybe I absolutely hate the way united play or even try to play but its hard to enjoy a game the way I used to. Maybe I'm just getting old and think everything was better before.

I agree it is duller

No characters, poor refereeing, crap atmospheres and overpaid whingers

Over saturated media and crap pundits

Not much going for it really.

2.) 25 Nov 2023 18:30:43
I remember when I first started going to football and many of the older people used to say the same thing about the game not being like it was in the 60s or 70s.

Same thing in motor racing, cricket, rugby, but it is not just sports.

At work, when I joined, the old boys used to say how it wasn't like it was in the 70s and 80s. My uncle in the same job said when he joined the old boys used to say it wasn't like it was after the war.

Now I'm the dinosaur and I tell the nippers stories about how great things were back when I joined.

Gotta love swinging the lantern.

Not full of your a city fan or arsenal or even Brighton who are at an all time sustained high.
I agree that the game is changed players are not in touch with the fans.
Refs have been destroyed by var and tv.
The games are not that dull excluding our own of course but I can't watch any of the pre or post game nonsense.

4.) 26 Nov 2023 03:23:27
I don't think it's football, I think it's just the premier league.

Go down to the championship or lower divisions and you'll see more passion, atmosphere, exciting games and believe it or not, better officiating all without VAR.

5.) 26 Nov 2023 05:30:19
Went to watch Stockport County when in UK. Week before Brighton at OT.

The atmosphere was incredible, good hard, no quarter football by both teams. Great game as well!

And whilst we are on the subject of rubbish pre and post game discussions. What on earth is this XG rubbish? Absolute B. S stats to give these clowns something to dribble on about. We have a commentator here in Oz (Andy Harper) . He can put more words together to make a point than Shappy?.

6.) 26 Nov 2023 08:17:13
Blimey Keefy but that Andy Harper must be something else!
???.

7.) 26 Nov 2023 08:36:37
Chuckle. Just a good humour dig. ?.

Duller, perhaps, characters are less colourful and many things have changed. Players are fitter, stronger healthier but more brittle. Physical changes mean they run more and in effect make the pitch smaller. Tactically more aware and fouling has become snide at times. I miss the full blooded challenge that actually wins the ball, not the kicking we used to get years ago. VAR is a joke, seemingly aimed to find reasons to disallow the aim of the game, score goal. 5 mins before you can celebrate a goal. Ridiculous.

The main change seems to be the don’t lose being first aim mentality, then ensure a win, then entertain in that order. Ole Gunner Southgate is an example. Football in the past was played to win, the change in mentality to being afraid of what would happen when losing, added to by expectations of everything wanted to happen immediately and the woke drivel invading sport, has made a difference.

The reason I liked to read this page was for people's opinions on our favourite club but the anger and name calling against Ole is to much now. Ken has had a few abusive tirades against him as if Ole had personally aggrieved him. It's not right. Ole is a poor manager but a man with a family, who I think is a decent man. Since when has it been acceptable to dehumanise our manager with unfounded dramatic drivel. But I guess Ken can say what he likes on here.

Banjoe

1.) 16 Nov 2021 19:23:04
Call a spade a spade and all that. See nothing wrong with Ken's comments at all. He's said nothing directed to him personally or his family. His opinion of ole has boiled over to hate for the man. And rightly so. Oles an idiot. Hence why I call him the borewegian fraud.

2.) 16 Nov 2021 19:26:10
It's a tricky one. Certainly it isn't nice to read, but then neither is the Daily Mail and we can't get that banned unfortunately ?

Ken is entitled to his opinion and if the Ed's deem it inoffensive and not inappropriate then so be it.

I think it's fair to say that I think a lot of United fans are very frustrated at the moment and as such that frustration often boils over into anger. I can only imagine the the stuff the Ed's have to wade through and delete after a loss. Not a job I'd do so kudos for them for doing it so that we can enjoy this site.

Ole is definitely a poor manager, no doubt about that. From what I've read and my interpretation of him from his interviews he seems like a decent guy. Much like Steve Bruce at Newcastle he probably doesn't deserve half the abuse he gets and certainly a few probably take it too far and get personal.

I suppose it's a free world and people are allowed to have an opinion and to voice that opinion. Even if sometimes we don't like what we hear. Personally I wouldn't want it any other way.

In the end much like me not reading the Daily Mail we have a duty to ourselves to self-censor the things we don't want to read. If a particular poster regularly posts things you don't want to read then don't read their posts is probably the best advice I could give.

3.) 16 Nov 2021 19:53:50
Hate? Really? Sorry, but I'll reserve that particular emotion for people who actually deserve it. You know, like Hitler and other assorted scumbags. Not a football manager, just because he's not good at his job.

4.) 16 Nov 2021 20:22:54
Ultimately its just sport, nobody is dying. Ole is out of his depth but the vitriol aimed at him is unnecessary and distasteful. It may be someone's opinion bit that doesn't make it OK I thought United fans were better than that but it appears not all of them are.

5.) 16 Nov 2021 20:23:06
Shappy, for once, completely agree with that post. Kudos for that one.

6.) 16 Nov 2021 20:26:43
In fairness to Ken he's said from day one he doesn't buy into the nice guy persona of Ole. The manager has a long list of qualities that don't sit right with me too. As for posters getting upset, what he said was not nearly as bad as some portrayed and certainly doesn't deserve it's own thread.

It would be nice to see the stuff Jose was called in comparison. No one was dropping their monocles in disgust then.

7.) 16 Nov 2021 21:06:28
I have a great regard for Ken and agree with much of the thrust of his comments.
However, recently I finding myself wanting to distance myself from the increasingly offensive tone.
Ken, if you continue with this intemperate language you only demean yourself and make others far less likely to read what you are actually saying behind the words.

8.) 16 Nov 2021 21:22:55
Your right banjoe I can say what I like as long as the editors find it fit to print I have little or no posts not posted.
Ajh you thought united fans were better than that. Ha ha do you not hear the songs they sing and have been singing for years. I know you think you are above all that but your not 100% you are not. I know you are possibly the most egotistical of poster's.
I don't hate ole I don't know him personally. I hate the fact he is manager of Manchester United I don't deem him fit for purpose I would slate his attempts to do the most basic parts of his job. I don't like his traits I don't like his demeanour I don't like the fact that he is so inarticulate that he is an embarrassment on the club imo.
There are posters on here that are far worse people I'd imagine than ole but it's a big world room for everyone imo. But I won't refrain from voicing my opinion.
Ajh if you find my words distasteful or offensive I'm happy enough with that it's not a popularity contest on here and nor should it be.
Many times you have advised others to pass over and don't read posts they don't like. Take some of your own advice fella stop being a moan and don't apply so many double standards.

9.) 16 Nov 2021 20:56:02
Nice of you to play wing man Mumbles, but Jose didn't get the personal abuse Ole is getting.

Highlighting issues around approach and style is one thing, as is focusing on fall outs, but personal abuse because you don't like someone isn't. No biggie, but certainly needs calling out.

10.) 16 Nov 2021 20:57:54
Red whiskey, he called him a lying toe rag and a **** bag. I'd say that's directed as personally as it gets.

11.) 16 Nov 2021 21:49:39
Wow. The OP wasn't mine but Ken replies to me. Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and accept you might have been wrong but again you make it personal and focus on me, ignoring the posts of others.

You come across like an alpha male with a small d1ck. Get over yourself and admit you might have been in the wrong tiny.

12.) 16 Nov 2021 23:14:40
I don't think it was a civil as you make out AJH. Either way I stand by my point that everyone getting their knickers in a twist over Kens comments are acting very precious.

I just find the irony in your posts hilarious. Moaning Inception. A moan within a moan within a moan moaning about moans. You give out to Ken for naming you in a post when he didnt, then you do the same to me. Now you're upset with Ken calling someone names only for you to call him names.

The vibe on the page is poor because we're all fed up. I get it. I just think out of all the things we as a collective have argued about, this is probably the biggest waste of time.

13.) 16 Nov 2021 23:15:07
Guys, please let's stop this line of posting.
Ken was just voicing his anger at the manager, and to be fair, most of us feel angry towards the club and management including solskjaer.
Of course non of us "hate" solskjaer personally, but some of us are very aggrieved at his constant lies and inaccurate post match interviews, when it was clear to see that we were utter tripe.
A bit of honesty from our manager would not go amiss.

14.) 17 Nov 2021 00:08:14
So Ajh I'm fine with how I come across to you or anybody.
But please once again reflect on your earlier post when you criticise crass language against someone you don't know or ever met. Yet here you are doing the same thing.
Double standards or are you also an alpha male with a small one?
?? really you are just the same although I'm your ole. ?? you just can't see that you are no different no superior not above anything not capable of practising what you preach and profess to dislike. You then throw out the personal insults, you know the toxic ones you dislike so much and as a united fan you think your above. Really put a smile on my face nearly matches your posts moaning about moaning posts.
Brilliant.

15.) 17 Nov 2021 00:46:02
Lol. Ole doesn't deserve to be defended. If he believed that his so called legendary status would spare him, then he's sadly mistaken. No sympathy for Ole. Once it's about his ineptitude as a manager, he deserves all the abuse/ criticism directed at him. He has no one to blame but himself for his lack of progress/ development as a manager, and for his stubbornness for persisting with out of form players trying to prove everyone wrong just to satisfy his foolish pride. He's lack of leadership skills is a detriment to this club and the sooner he goes the better.

Maybe this is an obvious question, but why do Middle Eastern countries want to buy football clubs.

Banjoe

{Ed002's Note - It is not ME countries, it is those from the Middle East looking at diverse investment.}

I don't think anyone is throwing him under anything. His tactics mean we can be dangerous with the ball and without it we have massive holes through the middle and at full back due to the full back attempting to assist midfield. That and players just not up to the job.

I don't see how he can publicly blame Garnacho when he had Dalot trying to help midfield and leaving massive holes at the back.

Great Post DLIB. I give credit to ETH for sticking with the high press when he is under such pressure to shore up and get results. I know not everyone will agree with that though.
