How reliable is Duncan Castles? He is reporting that we have agreed PDybala release clause price.
Ed2 is there any truth in this?

Tonebags

{Ed002's Note - I really don’t know.}

1.) 08 May 2019 20:15:18
Not to be pedantic but it wasnt duncan castles who reported that story, it was his colleague ian mcgarry.

I was listening to it on their podcast called the “jose mourinho can do no wrong” podcast.

2.) 08 May 2019 21:37:25
Pretty sure he doesn’t have a release clause. Duncan castles was only really reliable when mourinho was there. Even then he wasn’t always right.

3.) 08 May 2019 22:23:42
Dybala would be the cherry on top of the cake for some teams, we just need a base, filling and icing first. It would be a typical Woodward signing, probably followed by Bale and Kroos.

4.) 09 May 2019 00:33:43
Dybala could be a sign of the type of way we will play next season. Fluid forwards capable of interchanging. If martial could pull the finger out him, Rashford and dybala would be a very tasty front 3. However all speculation at this point.

5.) 09 May 2019 08:13:00
Caolan_2 that all sounds lovely but why would Dybala coming in change the attitude of Martial and the decision making of Rashford.
This is the type of signing we should be looking at next summer if we can get the basics right next season. It would be like dumping Mesut Ozil in our failing team and thinking he’ll sort the mess out. He’s a luxury player who doesn’t really nail down a position with either Juve or Argentina.
Of course, I’d love to have these words rammed down my throat in 12 months time but there’s a lot more to be done than an £85 million no.10.

6.) 09 May 2019 10:46:31
Not saying that at all mate, and I do agree with you. The lines I’m thinking on is that it may be an indicator on how we want to play. He will be a good signing if he is the final piece. On martial I don’t know how his attitude is going to be changed, I think it could be something that comes from within him.

7.) 09 May 2019 11:31:43
Don't know if the Eds will know

If Pogba is looking to move on and if Juventus are still interested, and Pogba is happy to go to Juve and Dybala happy to go to United

Could their be a gentleman agreement in which both clubs sell the players to each other?

{Ed002's Note - No, that would not happen.}

8.) 09 May 2019 11:55:47
Thanks Ed002. Thought it was worth a ask. Have a nice day.

9.) 10 May 2019 02:14:20
Not what we need.

05 Aug 2017 03:16:09
Hi lads,

Just wondering if any development on De Gea future? Do Eds expect him to stay or could we be set for a late bid from Real?

Tonebags

{Ed001's Note - Real have got other parts of the team to sort out at the moment, though they are still interested in him.}

1.) 05 Aug 2017 09:24:36
Have we anyone in mind if Real push for De Gea this summer? Or is it unlikely De Gea moves to Madrid this window?

Also is Romero a definitely stayer?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - I have answered this before - try the search engine.}

2.) 05 Aug 2017 12:27:59
If De Gea does go to Real I believe Handanovic is Mourinhos preference.

3.) 05 Aug 2017 12:30:26
: De Gea has one less day left on his contract than he did yesterday :o.

4.) 05 Aug 2017 14:33:20
Romero has just signed a new contract so I would assume Jose will use him as first choice if Ddg leaves.

5.) 05 Aug 2017 21:53:30
Romero has to be the best second choice keeper around, but I don't think he is good enough to be number 1. Having him as number 1 wouldn't be the end of the world, but we really should have someone at least at Petr Cech's level if not better.

6.) 05 Aug 2017 22:46:51
Cech is past his best and has not been the same player since he had that head injury he has not commanded the penalty area the same.

7.) 05 Aug 2017 22:51:57
Romero is as good as Cech at his current level. He's more than good enough to start. DDG though is world class and a definite step up. How many more points that equates to in a season is impossible to say though.

8.) 06 Aug 2017 01:00:14
Romero is a very good keeper but not a great one and the very very best keepers can make the difference in tight matches and tight seasons. It's not necessarily about the total amount of points they can save you (although that obviously helps) but it can be more about one save or one match which proves pivotal. It can be against a title rival or a lesser team but the impetus it can give can inspire your team and deflate your rivals. Schmeichel was probably the best recent example of this before DDG.

06 Apr 2017 15:26:27
If Ed2 is about do they know what its options are for strikers next year? Do they expect Ibra to stay another year? If Ibra leaves who are club looking at to replace him?
LewAndowski, Kane, Lukaku, Belotti have all been mentioned in the press.

I feel it may hamper our options as other top strikers may be reluctant to join while Ibra still here.
I hope Griezman comes but he wouldn't be a typical Mourinho striker. Maybe he plays out wide with a target man through the middle or a change of formation.

Could some of eds shed some light on the Giggs-Swansea rumours? While I realise that it may be a matter for the Swansea page I think it will be a key indicator as to how top men at the club are planning for life post LVG.
I don't think Giggs would go for example of he was promised the managers position once LVG leaves? And in same vein Swansea wouldn't take him on a short contract?

Tonebags

{Ed001's Note - no one knows what is happening, with regards to the Swansea end, as it is one man making the decision. However there were applications received for the job and it has been claimed by someone within the club that Giggs' was amongst them. Man Utd would be willing to let him go, as, despite the comments from LVG, it is not 100% certain he will take over next.}

1.) 11 Dec 2015 23:10:07
Thanks ed.

2.) 12 Dec 2015 09:44:38
Perhaps of more interest is Gary Neville acquiring managerial experience in Spain. Personally I think he would be a better fit than Giggs in 18 months time, but as Harold Wilson once said, " A week is a long time in politics".

09 Dec 2015 00:54:33
Ok. so there were some positives (young players) but while we love to see them get their chance the club shouldn't be in a position, after spending the money they have, where we need 5/6 in the team in biggest game of the year.

Am I the only 1 that cringed when I read that they plan to give LVG another 200 million to spend? I think his signings as a whole have been unsuccessful. Martial and Memphis may well turn out good in long run but for the money spent we should be getting established players in and pick when to play 1/2 of younger guys.

Tonebags

1.) 09 Dec 2015 08:10:24
Another load of rubbish performance last night. I can't see any positives apart from De Gea and if we're playing youngsters why not play Pereira? LVG has lost my faith a month or 2 ago and he has done nothing since then to prove me wrong so he has to go.

2.) 09 Dec 2015 13:14:16
I get that everyone is frustrated. but we went out in the europa league under fergie too. van gaal is building a club here. his genius wasn't really appreciated until he left Barcelona and bayern. and if you say that he is foolish, players like schweini, xavi, robben, muller and puyol are idiots to still hold him in such high regard?
Nothing can be built overnight. and 1 and a half years he has been here is hardly any time in the grand scheme of things. if you are saying that louis van gaal needs to leave, surely you started supporting united 3 years ago!
Louis van gaal was bought in to arrest utd's slide and he has done that. he now deserves the chance to take them forward. judge him in may!
He might be a very stubborn person, but he's not an idiot!

3.) 09 Dec 2015 13:51:54
Great post Tom.

4.) 09 Dec 2015 14:21:27
Top post.

5.) 09 Dec 2015 19:23:53
lvg must have the best pr man in football history.
when he gets sacked and a new manager comes in and plays different tactics but with the same players, and the team then looks 100 % better, some people give lvg the credit .

6.) 09 Dec 2015 19:31:31
The issue with me is that they playing unacceptable football for United, I can accept us getting knocked out the CL but only playing for the last 20 mins last night doesn't count, we are Manchester United one of/the biggest clubs in the world and we need to play more quality football.

7.) 11 Dec 2015 08:29:45
I'm sorry - have to disagree. LVG is not building a club. He's here for 18 more months maximum, has sold lots of players who could have done a job to trim the wage bill for the money men in charge, attracted no major stars, and currently left us with the smallest and poorest squad at the club since the 1980s.

8.) 11 Dec 2015 14:05:39
So the debate goes on about LVG. Fergie won nothing for 4 years, then when he built his team look what happened. Leave LVG do what is needed, then welcome the glory days back in 2017.

{Ed007's Note - If that's the case why didn't you stick with Moyes and you'd be a year closer to the 'glory days'?}

Any truth in Ndidi rumours? Reports that Utd have met his representatives.

Tonebags

1.) 31 Jul 2021 06:48:12
I'd very much doubt it. Leicester would want close to or more than we paid for Maguire to sell Ndidi.

While he is an excellent player, he isn't worth that sort of money, further more I don't think we have that sort of money to spend on a midfielder.

2.) 31 Jul 2021 08:49:48
We would be looking for Pogba replacements, even someone who can push or replace Fred. That Camavinga kid looks decent.

3.) 31 Jul 2021 10:16:04
Hey Syd, Camavinga looks a great talent. Although I'm not sure if he signed that he immediately or even this season starts ahead of McFred.

Personally when I look at our attack and our defence I see enough quality in our first 11 to challenge for the title. The squad depth in attack and particularly defence looks poor or not yet ready to consistently perform.

For me there is a question mark over the keepers, but one I feel can be solved with decisive action and not a need to go into the transfer market.

But the real issue is getting that balance right in midfield. McFred is too defensive and lacks technical ability to progress the ball forward.

Donny is yet to settle, Matic is past his best and Pogba wants to leave and when playing lacks defensive work rate/ awareness. Bruno is the only nailed on starter for me.

If we can address the midfield and we can keep all our best players fit then we have a side capable of pushing City, Liverpool and Chelsea all the way.

4.) 31 Jul 2021 12:19:21
He is young, so is Bellingham and I think he'd have been a great signjng. I think youth isn't a bad thing when playing an energetic role in midfield. I suspect if he was signed, he'd be a bit-part player. He certainly fits the United way. Young, talented and huge potential.

5.) 31 Jul 2021 12:33:12
Would make sense to look at him however I have the feeling OGS is looking at more of a quarterback type HM which is why we are looking at Saul/ Neves type.
Also, not sure we have the money it would take do get him out of Leicester. That being said would definitely be interested.

6.) 31 Jul 2021 17:19:15
Ndidi for £90m Shappy? He’s not even worth a third of that. Hopefully he’s not a contender.

7.) 31 Jul 2021 18:57:20
I agree Spenno. Ndidi is excellent at the defensive side of the game, but he doesn't offer enough on the ball for a top side that will have the majority of possession.

Question for ed.
Does Cavani staying mean that we will see no other striker being signed this summer?
Also does this leave more funds available for other positions? RE, CB and CDM?

Tonebags

{Ed002's Note - It means that no high-end striker will arrive and it will save money. It does not been more will be sent elsewhere.}

1.) 13 May 2021 01:18:08
What a bummer.

2.) 13 May 2021 10:22:23
Ed002, While I appreciate no club will set a budget then aim to spend all of the money in that budget. Surely by not spending 100m+ on a striker then other positions can be strengthened that might have been able to if the club spent a huge sum on a striker.

It's accepted that the club are looking at multiple positions to strengthen, GK, CB, RB, CM and a forward of some kind either a ST or RW. The reality is the club while not aiming to spend all of their budget they will still have a ceiling of how much they could spend.

Surely the scenario wouldn't have been that had Cavani not extended the club would have just found an extra 100m for a top end striker on top of still signing players in all the other positions.

{Ed002's Note - Which striker were Manchester United going to spend £100M on?}

3.) 13 May 2021 11:06:02
Ed002, the rumours of United being interested in Kane and Haaland have persisted for a while. Not sure whether the club would actually go for them, but the rumours are there. Both would go for north of 100m this summer.

{Ed002's Note - Neither is available and Manchester United have ruined any relationship they have with Haaland's agent who is working on a deal for next summer. If you add Manchester United also not signing Mbappe then that will give another £350M to spend on other players.}

08 May 2021 10:05:27
Curious as to peoples opinions on next week's games and what way to rotate players.
I would play best 11 v Villa and liverpool with 2nd 11 v Leicester.
Hopefully help stop Pool getting too 4.

Tonebags

1.) 08 May 2021 10:27:52
I think. its important to capitalise on Leicester losing and secure 2nd, rotate vs Leicester, full strength vs Liverpool and then tbh last 2 games hopefully will be meaningless and manage mins ahead of the final.

2.) 08 May 2021 13:22:04
If given a choice I would rest players for Leicester game and save them for the Liverpool game. The chance to keep Liverpool out of the CL is too good to miss. At the same time if we were to lose to Leicester that equally makes things very difficult for Liverpool. We win both it doesn't really matter. Also Liverpool could be looking at similar transfer targets to us in the summer. We would be more attractive with CL football if Liverpool don't make the tip four. Liverpool should do well in the Europa next season meaning they would have a lot of games. Put that together with a flakey squad (Although I've heard they've got virtually the best player in the world in any given position according to a lot of their fans) then they will have equally a tough next season with much lower revenue.

3.) 09 May 2021 08:18:48
You guys are wrong, ole will go like United never play to lose a game and will keep playing the best XI until 4-5 get injured before the finals.
That's the Ole way.
Fantastic.

Hi.

Is there any truth to the Abameyang rumours? Strange target if true considering that we had seemed to be going after younger players with potential.
Can ed confirm or deny if he is being targeted and if so would arsenal be willing to Let him go to a rival.

Tonebags

{Ed002's Note - Try searching.}

04 Feb 2019 21:20:18
What do people think of Declan Rice. could be ideal replacement for Matic?
Rotate with for starters then eventually make place his own.
Been very impressed with him again tonight.

Tonebags

1.) 04 Feb 2019 21:29:02
Would be a good addition but would probably cost a fortune.

2.) 04 Feb 2019 21:53:01
He's that good he could replace him now.
Give them Lukaku or Sanchez or both.

3.) 04 Feb 2019 22:12:28
Looks like a fantastic young player. Very composed and reads the game very well. As above though, he would likely cost a fortune having just signed a new contract. However, if we are going to throw money at a PL team for a defensive midfielder, why not go mad?

If we finish in the top 4 and Chelsea don't, go for Kante?

4.) 04 Feb 2019 22:26:28
Got to say rice was great tonight, and i was surprised to see how well chicha holds the ball up now.

5.) 04 Feb 2019 23:11:33
I believe he is the best young midfielder anywhere and we should go all out to get him before City try for him.

6.) 05 Feb 2019 11:10:27
We should sign him and Thomas Muller as a double act.

7.) 05 Feb 2019 11:38:38
Brilliant Shappy!

8.) 05 Feb 2019 11:53:13
Any one of Neves or Rice.

9.) 05 Feb 2019 16:21:42
Shappy,

Nice, I like it.

Have a thumbs up.

10.) 05 Feb 2019 19:31:47
If they flopped shappy we'd look like puddings.

It showed last game what LVG thinks of younger players. as soon as Rojo and Darmian were for they were back in. Even though I thought Varela and Borth were doing well. They're energy and exuberance was infectious. much as RAshford is up too. I aid bet any money that Rooney would be straight in when available no matter how many RAshford may score. The young lads play with no fear but I feel LVG interprets that as reckless and fathers men who will follow his strict instructions.

Personally see both carrick and BS playing together. BS is more box to box than Cdm for me. Also think it will help carrick as he is much better with a forward thinking passer(scholes)
I think it will be blind to cover Cdm and Lb.
Then it'll be between mata and Herrera for acm role.
Herrera can also play box to box so think we pretty well covered in middle. Would rather buy a cb and striker before another cm

I would see Naingollan as similar type to De Jong but with better passing. Think he would be ideal in mid 3 with Herrera and then depending on opposition for other player. Carrick for bigger games and let Herrera further forward. Mata for games where opposition will sit deep.

Think Southgate has same problem as Ole. Doesn't trust his CBs. Hence the two defensive midfielders. lack creativity with that pair.
Sterling was poor, thought he should have been replaced by Grealish not Foden.
Kane looks tired. Why not bring DCL on instead of Rashford who is better from left?

Surely Sancho.

Tonebags

{Ed014's Note - Southgate is the problem!

I worry he may play Zlatan at 10 and shift Miki right. Ultimately it'll be Mata who loses his place.
Hope I'm wrong but I can't see Ibra being content as an impact sub or squad player and not starting the big games.
