Just like to say that we seem to lack any composure, patience and shape when we move forward when attacking during a match when needing to take the lead. Counter attacking is fine when you are winning games but teams like Liverpool and Man City gradually move up the pitch when they are searching for the 1st goal, they then move forward a lot quicker/ long ball when they counter. We just seem unable to pin teams back and just try and get the ball forward as quick as possibly generally resulting in lack of options and giving the ball away cheaply. That is down to the coaching and game management.

1.) 31 Jan 2021 15:07:41
Agree, we lack proper structure going forward.
There seems to be a lack of direction how the moves needs to be constructed.

2.) 31 Jan 2021 23:28:59
I think team is progressing well. Really like the way we are playing. Unfortunately Rashford and Martial are so inconsistent. Once we get right wing sorted and get Rashford playing from the left then we will start winning things.

3.) 01 Feb 2021 07:19:30
Jgb19031976 really? I guess a lot of people just have this idea that sorting out the right wing is going to help this team go and win things. Well it would certainly help balance the squad but we need more than just the right players.

Unless the manager is capable of utilizing and bringing the best out of the players available to him and brings in a more progressive approach to his tactics and the style of play the team is going to go through phases of both good and bad performances and ultimately not win anything.

4.) 01 Feb 2021 19:26:22
The problem is that Rashford was looking more and more like a top class LW around Oct/ Nov/ Dec, then we moved him to RW to accommodate Pogba.

Every man, woman and child knows that our best side is EITHER Fred/ McTom alongside Pogba in the middle, with Rashford left, Greenwood right and Bruno playing off of Cavani, yet for some reason we now play Rashford on the right, where he looks like a poor man’s Nani.

5.) 03 Feb 2021 00:51:23
This aged well.

6.) 03 Feb 2021 10:01:10

We just don’t attack enough and never score haha.

7.) 03 Feb 2021 18:10:10
Well what can I say, I rest my case, albeit aided by an early sending off we actually pinned a team back and sometimes went back to go forward, and look what happens. We will see if they can continue and impose more in future games when needing to take the lead.

Happy New year to all eds and posters old and new. Any chance of a inkling of a surprise transfer to us this January Ed002? Something to warm the cockles of my heart this grey Dorset day as I'm covering my wife's charming cafe having avoided any alcohol for the last few months including last night. I am plying myself with high grade caffeine this morning accompanied with a smorgasbord of green teas and a bacon sandwich.

{Ed002's Note - Joao Mario will maybe emerge as a favoutite for midfield.}

1.) 01 Jan 2018 12:55:11
Are we targeting only one midfielder or two ed? . By us going after Mario means the end for milinkovic Savic and Soler or are these two transfers unrelated? .

{Ed002's Note - Why do you have to try and complicate everything?}

2.) 01 Jan 2018 13:52:46
Cheers Ed002 and a Happy New Year to you!

3.) 01 Jan 2018 13:51:06
Brilliant, thank you Ed002, cheered me up after enduring a shopping trip to the sales with the missus (part of the bargain reached to baggsie the big TV for Everton match later)

Does anyone have any info or opinions about Mario, apart from his penchant for Italian food? )

4.) 01 Jan 2018 14:02:09
I'll take Joao Mario. Think he a decent player who will fit well into the team. Will it be a loan with a view to buy or a transfer?

5.) 01 Jan 2018 16:01:45
No worries Ed. Happy new yr to everyone.

6.) 02 Jan 2018 11:41:58
Paper talk for me on Mario definitely can see Jose trying for Savic tho.

12 May 2017 20:40:36
Rumours that Renato Sanches is unsettled / Maybe available for transfer. Sorry ed not listened to sharkopod yet but wondered if a move was possible this summer or any inkling that this might be the case and that Bayern would let him leave for similar money in return?

{Ed002's Note - He has been a disaster and if they could mug some club in to buying him they would - they are trying to get a replacement in. The player has not coped with the cultural change at all - Manchester United got lucky last year.}

1.) 13 May 2017 07:12:27
He's a 19 year old boy. Hopefully he will grow up to become the player he looks like he can be.

2.) 13 May 2017 08:56:40
Is he one of those players who are unwilling to adapt to a new country or is he homesick and will only ever be successful on the Iberian peninsula?

{Ed002's Note - It is not that he is unwilling it is that it can be very difficult to adapt where everything is cuturally different, where the language is a problem, where the food is different, where the weather is poor etc..}

3.) 13 May 2017 13:54:34
Never thought that joining Bayern was the best move for him, not surprised at all it hasn't worked out. Hopefully he get's back on track soon though, think he has great potential.

4.) 13 May 2017 14:32:19
I'd be delighted to have him. So dynamic, would compliment Pogba very well I think.

5.) 13 May 2017 15:04:24
Have you watched him this season fresh. He had a very good euros, was decent in the Portuguese league. Beyond that, he leaves a lot to be desired.

I'd rather a more experienced player with pedigree than sanches.

6.) 13 May 2017 16:00:44
He has so much potential but he just wasn't ready for such a high profile move. Probably lacks a bit of maturity. I watched a game on telly that he came on in, he looked lost. You're right ed, United definitely dodged a bullet there.
Hopefully he can get some good advice and make his next move right for him and realise his potential.

7.) 13 May 2017 16:56:19
25 games for a 19 year old at Bayern in his first season in a new country seems ok to me hope he is surplus and we take him cause the boy is a top talent but got to feeling he is playing understudy for next season its the Bayern way to ease talent in and let them grow. personaly i would like Nianggolon for midfield and if James Rodriguez is available him to. And Beloti looks perfect for the prem hope he on the radar but I know Jose will improve us dramatically no matter who the targets are, we have bags of cash and some big profile players leaving can't wait for the summer transfer window.

8.) 13 May 2017 18:52:17
I think he worth a chance for a reasonable fee, I wouldn't go over 25 million though, feel like Mourinho would look after him.

9.) 14 May 2017 08:23:41
Good point Shane - maybe the Portuguese connection would make him feel happier (though can't do anything about the rain! )

You'd think BM would've done more to help him settle in though, such as placing him with a Portuguese family/ privibding extra lessons at college. Maybe that's not how it works and I'm being naive - can't be easy for a young lad to adapt to a whole new situation, where everything would seem foreign.

10.) 14 May 2017 08:52:16
If he has struggled with language, food and weather then he will struggle just as much here so it probably wouldn't make sense spending big money on him right now. He may become great, he may not.

06 Jan 2017 12:07:46
Everton reportedly make a move for Manolas. wouldn't we be interested too if he's available unless other business is nearly done anyway.

{Ed025's Note - he wants a move to a big club who are going places supasub.. :)

1.) 06 Jan 2017 12:48:22
He is a Briiliant player, Everton will do very well to sign him

{Ed025's Note - its just speculation at the moment mate but i agree that he would be a good signing..

2.) 06 Jan 2017 12:58:51
Ok get it Ed. At least the biggest club in Merseyside is a step up.

{Ed025's Note - nothing wrong with dreaming mate.. :)

3.) 06 Jan 2017 13:53:43
So not signing for everton then ed. Though on a serious note will you be able to afford him?

{Ed025's Note - we have loads of dosh CSM, not only moshiri but now usmanov wants a piece of us and hes richer than abramovic!, the futures bright mate... the future is blue.. :)

4.) 06 Jan 2017 14:36:48
You still got that church in part of goodison Ed? It's been a while since I've thought about it, an old Everton fan about 30 years ago used to tell me they wouldn't move which has always hampered increasing the size of the stadium.

{Ed025's Note - St lukes is still there supasub and it has always been a thorn in the side of any expansion to the ground, but that wont matter now as we will be getting a state of the art stadium at bramley moor dock in the near future mate..

5.) 11 Jan 2017 13:05:47
I would have thought a church being so close to Goodison, was rather handy, Ed025 :)

{Ed025's Note - sadly my prayers have not been answered noucamp...liverpool are still in the premier league mate.. :)

11 Dec 2016 23:30:10
Just a message to Ed002. I don't mind if you give us a rundown after the transfer window just to remove the strange 1 time posters who seem to ruin it for some of us. Take your time. We know your a busy person and I'm sure we can all be patient and wait for your update.
I've been here for a few years and don't want to be cheesed off by a few suspicious random posters.
Enjoy a g and t or a sip or champers and give your insight when your ready.

{Ed002's Note - I have been travelling for a month and I am either in my office or around the UK (oddly enough Manchester tomorrow night) most of the next two weeks - I will look to doing it late this week.}

1.) 12 Dec 2016 07:21:04
Thanks Ed, anything you can manage will be very much appreciated. You always sound so busy - hope you have a wonderful break over Christmas.

Klopp needs to shut his mouth, stop trying to influence referees against us and favouring Liverpool and also get his facts straight regarding historical penalties. All just trying to deflect pressure.

1.) 05 Jan 2021 13:39:12
But isn't it nice when the top teams start worrying about you! Much better than being irrelevant.

2.) 05 Jan 2021 13:55:54
get a bet on us to beat them away via a penalty late on.

3.) 05 Jan 2021 14:43:41
We are starting to be relevant again in the title race.

4.) 05 Jan 2021 18:12:10
It’s the best thing I’ve heard for a long time, when was the last time a manager challenging for the title was worrying about us? It might be short lived who knows but I bloody loved it.

29 Dec 2020 21:58:37
Is that 3 games in a row now where the opposition team hasn't had a single yellow card (apart from Patricio)? How Neves and Traore at least didn't get a yellow for persistent fouls.

05 Nov 2020 22:54:36
Bielsa, Blanc (I mentioned both on here a couple of years ago), Allegri, Pocchetino. In that order of preference for me. I think Solskaer will be gone by cob on Monday. Hopefully some owners with more of a connection with the club will come in after realising that this season would be a great time to buy the club some how due to lower revenue etc.

1.) 05 Nov 2020 23:21:58
I doubt Bielsa would leave Leeds to join Utd.

2.) 06 Nov 2020 00:16:08
if any decent manager looks at the last eight years he might say i do not need the crap of how this clubs run. and look for something else.

{Ed0666's Note - we discuss exactly the same thing in the latest podcast that’s out tommorow daz

3.) 06 Nov 2020 06:36:22
If Blanc is seen as an answer then I am very worried indeed and I would be very against that appointment

I said on here before I like Simeone, maybe seen as too defensive but my goodness me he gets the players playing for him. Allegri, Poch is more likely and Poch does seem to have support at United. Even Antonio Conte is not a bad shout, then there is the likes of the Wolves manager, the Ajax incumbent, Nagelsmann, despite the result the other day you could see the structure and pattern he set. Then we move on to other managers who are better than Ole, however, I start work in a couple of hours so don’t have enough time to list them and that is ignoring the other Premier League and Championship, League One managers who would also be an improvement.

If Ole is replaced it looks like Poch and it would be a good choice, perhaps there may be better who have won something but I hope the board make the decision on Ole this weekend, regardless of result and move forward decisively. If it is Poch then I will look forward to that. If it was Blanc I would hang my head like when Moyes was appointed.

4.) 06 Nov 2020 06:53:16
RedMan, Simeone should have done much better against a declining Madrid and Barca.
At times his football is just too defensive.
I don't see him as the right fit.

The outright choices are Poch and Allegri.

Poch hasn't won any trophies yet, but made Spurs a stable top 4 side with good style of football.
He also achieved 86 points with Spurs an year before he was sacked which would have been enough to win 10 of the last 20 EPL titles.

Just wondering with a better squad depth and increased transfer budget, if he would have us challenging for the title.

5.) 06 Nov 2020 07:02:07

Barca and Madrid had prime Messi and Ronaldo until very recently

If the club think Poch is right, then stop dithering, if they dither because of emotional sentimentality and Poch goes elsewhere that is pure incompetence.

6.) 06 Nov 2020 10:13:50
Red Man, I think Simeone would be a very poor appointment. No doubt he did well with Atletico to win a title with them back in 2014.

Yet he hasn't really been able to mount a title challenge since.

I would have several concerns over his appointment. He doesn't speak English which would be a problem. His reluctance to leave Atletico even though he knows they can't really challenge for the title makes me wonder whether he has the ambition to win titles or whether he is just comfortable where he is and is happy to plod along. His tactics are very Mourinho-esqe, sit deep and compact, win all your battles and focus on scoring at set-pieces. We have seen that work well at Atletico with players of a certain mind-set and a certain skill-set. But when Atletico have bought more creative, expansive players they have failed to adapt/ fit in to they system and Simeone has been reluctant to adjust his system to help for them in. Look at the money they spent on João Felix and how he has struggled.

Looking at our squad both in terms of mentality and ability and I don't see many of any of our players who fit Simeone's requirements. So we would need to replace most of the squad.

Good manager, just a really poor fit for our club.

You do have a thing for defensive, aggressive cagey managers though Red Man. You have a clear type. Mourinho, Conte, Simeone.

Personally I don't think a change in manager will yield hugely different results. They will still have a squad that is more potential than proven quality, they will still have to move on a few players who aren't the right fit and bring in a few who are. They will still have to try and do that with a board who refuse to sell certain players for economic reasons, while they will either buy "off brand" alternatives to the managers first choice signings or not sign anyone at all. Then the football will regress after a short "false dawn" and the fans will become frustrated, discontent will grow and then that manager will be sacked and the cycle will start again.

The only way we as fans have any chance of breaking the cycle (and it is a slim chance at best) is if instead of turning on the manager we back the manager and turn on the board. Put pressure on them to make real changes. But the chances of that happening are marginal at best, as we have shown as a fan base we turn on ourselves, we can't agree on much at all, and ironically we are not a united fan base.

7.) 06 Nov 2020 10:57:40
We would have a squad that is more potential than proven quality with a better manager that could coach them properly to realise that potential.

8.) 06 Nov 2020 11:22:56
good post on simone shappy. i thik him and allegri both to defence minded. poch i don't know seems to be able to go to a certain point and then gets stuck. with more finances could he take the next step and win silverware.

9.) 06 Nov 2020 11:26:56
Maybe Bilko, if you believe that the club know enough about football and coaching to hire ayoung players coach who can deliver that coaching.

Lots of people rave about Pochettino improving young players. While he definitely gave them a chance in the team, how many have dramatically improved over 3-4 seasons with him? Kane had already started smashing goals in before Pochettino arrived. Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Eric Dier started well but never kicked on. Which are the other youngsters he actually developed?

Spurs technical ability decreased the longer he was at the club. While most of his signings were terrible.

So Pochettino is the favourite for the job, he has won nothing in his career, has spent money poorly, not really developed young players, and has a history of chocking when he gets near silverware.

If not Pochettino then who else will the club turn to? Many top names are either already at a club or its questionable whether they would want to take a job at United in our current state.

Allegri is unlikely I would imagine after the club messed him around. Blanc is out of a job and available and might consider it. Giggs looks like he would be out of the job and seems a likely option the club would turn to. Attempt to keep fans onside by replacing a sacked club legend with another club legend.

If the same people who put Ole in charge in the first place are the same people who'll hire his replacement, then what confidence do you have in them appointing the right candidate?

10.) 06 Nov 2020 13:02:13

You call on people to back the manager and turn on the board. Do you live on fantasy island? Back a good manager but not the failed Cardiff standard one. You think the board will change with criticism from fans? No. The only way is if revenue drops dramatically and it becomes a struggle to pay dividends, we might get an ownership change that heralds a board with different direction. Giggs sounds more like Shappys project fear than reality. Stick with Ole or end up with Giggs. Oh dear.

11.) 06 Nov 2020 13:26:49
I would add the club need to do what they should have done after Mourinho. Conduct a review set aspects of exactly what they are looking for, what is expected, the direction, the plan they want and start from there, see who fits best, who can deliver it, instead of jumping to the next one. One thing I will say is that Woodward only has so many lives and needs the next one to work. Whether they are capable of that review is another thing but there are many where the answer is better than what we have

How anyone can review the worlds managers and come up with sticking with Ole, or going for Blanc or Giggs is beyond me.

12.) 06 Nov 2020 13:38:57
To be fair Red Man I don't think anything will make a difference. The club will do what they will do.

As fans we don't get to pick the manager, we don't get to pick the team, we don't get to pick the tactics and we don't get to pick who the club buys and sells.

We get to have an opinion on all of it and we get to watch it. That's it.

However, football manager, FIFA, PES fantasy football and the general media all have us thinking we know best. We are all football experts.

We don't get a say, simple as. We can kick off and stamp our feet and maybe, maybe we can force a manager out if the form is bad enough and it ticks the financial boxes. But then don't get to pick the next manager.

Giggs is as likely as anyone else, while he is more likely than most. At one point the club were grooming him at one point.

13.) 06 Nov 2020 14:44:02
Sentimentality is the reason. Afraid of backlash from the fans so let's go for the safe option. Give it to a former club player who believes playing under Sir Alex automatically qualifies them to do things the United Way. It's my opinion and I don't expect anyone to agree with me but I will say it again. The United Way left with Sir Alex and he is the only one who knew how to implement it. Hiring a new manager and expecting him to do things like Sir Alex is a recipe for disaster. Managing the club is difficult enough. The expectations of them playing like United teams under Sir Alex just exacerbates the problem. They should be allowed to implement their own style and philosophy to achieve the free flowing attacking football that majority of fans want.

14.) 07 Nov 2020 15:57:54
I don't have any in depth knowledge of foreign coaches what I would like to see is a manager who is brave, plays entertaining football and you can see what he's working towards.

I have no idea if the current players could play a high press entertaining brave brand of football but I'd atleast enjoy watching them try and see what the end aim is and the path forward he was looking to take.

I like nagelsmans approach even though we beat them well, I like poch aswell, he seemed to play attacking football, just a slight worry one or two of his recruitments weren't the greatest.

When fans turn on a manager dull football often contributes ole and jose good examples.

15.) 08 Nov 2020 11:09:11
looking forward to it ed0666 love to hear the eds views.

15 Oct 2020 21:24:05
Betty Swollocks, I'm good, thanks for asking. Hope your well too.
Nice to get a mention as I feel a little old when I come on here but I still like to lurk in the background. I'm just a bit disillusioned with our club at the moment and it feels like the era when we had Ron Atkinson in charge.
The club needs sorting from top to bottom internally. Now would be a good time to buy the club but sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for.
Someone to take the club in the right direction long term, could be Blanc as a dof for example. New owners more passionate about the club from a footballing perspective.

1.) 15 Oct 2020 23:01:59
More Dave sexton than room atkinson.
Big ron had flair and charisma ole carrick phelan and mckenna have the little or no charisma.

2.) 16 Oct 2020 13:05:55
Isn't Charisma Ed 001's stage name?

{Ed001's Note - it is preceded by 'lack of' though!}

14 Jul 2020 13:32:29
Did we actually make 5 substitutions yesterday? Have I missed something as I thought only 4 were made and another player could still have come on for Williams.

1.) 14 Jul 2020 13:48:50
You can make up to 5 substitutions but they must come in a maximum of three intervals. Because Pogba came off at 63 minutes, Shaw at 75 minutes and then a double sub of Bruno and Greenwood at 84 minutes we used 3 different intervals and couldn't make a further 5th sub.

2.) 14 Jul 2020 13:48:50
You can only make substitutions on 3 seperate occasions.

3.) 14 Jul 2020 19:15:34
Then that's poor match management.

4.) 14 Jul 2020 19:58:18
Shaw was brought off injured then Williams can't plan for 2 injuries requiring immediate subs for the same position how's it bad management? It was bad luck.

5.) 14 Jul 2020 20:10:43
Because in the past you would normally hold off on a sub for an injury or anything else unforeseen, keeper/ player sent off etc.

6.) 14 Jul 2020 20:24:21
Shaw was brought off injured it's an enforced change. Plus pogba was poor and so was greenwood and bruno? He took off all the correct players in my opinion. Bashing the manager for this god its unbelievable how people will look to criticise the manager with anything these days. To lose both left backs in the same game the chances of that happening is extremely unlikely. We were super unlucky there.

7.) 14 Jul 2020 20:49:58
And the last 2 subs came very late too.
There needs to be a rule to let substitution happen if someone like brandon is injured and unable to play.

8.) 14 Jul 2020 20:52:07
Anything to bash the manager. The more they say Ole out, the longer he stays. Maybe you'll should try the opposite and say nothing. Maybe that might hasten his exit.

9.) 14 Jul 2020 23:01:58
Poor match management haha he made the final subs are about 88 minutes, absolute joker Ole he shouldn’t have made any subs just in case Williams banged his head.

10.) 15 Jul 2020 07:54:15
In live chat I said I wouldn’t criticise Ole’s substitutions, don’t think they were too bad. Might have taken Bruno off instead of Pogba and either gone 3 in central midfield or pushed Pogba up and made the subs 10 mins earlier because we were flagging. But not a major criticism. However he did get the tactics wrong at the start as per my other posts. It was obvious to me pre game what Southampton would do but our manager had them passing across a deep back line, trying to give Pogba the ball centrally with back to goal. Utter naive management and there is no getting away from that.

11.) 15 Jul 2020 08:21:38
haha ole to blame for the subs now.

you just can't write the script for some of use lot.

we are still in a position to have a decent season

lets hope your on here if that happens and you don't go missing.

12.) 15 Jul 2020 09:29:59
Are you having a laugh . As a team we play out from the back, we back ourselves to beat a press .
Like most teams these days.
Infact our goal come from this .
Pogba made a mistake, it happens you don't completely change your tactics for one mistake.
You don't change what you havd worked on for weeks because of one mistake.

13.) 15 Jul 2020 09:48:30

Ole makes the decisions on subs no one else, so is accountable for them, however there was no major criticism from me, he couldn’t have known Williams would get that injury. Thought he might have made changes earlier maybe slightly different to what I thought but that was not cause for criticism. However my thoughts are that his starting tactics were naive remains in place.

14.) 15 Jul 2020 11:06:56
Ddg has taken the 4th most long goal kicks this season of any keeper in the epl.
We play out less from the back than most sides actually.
I was surprised by that i thought we played out from the back as much as most but apparently not.
Shaw and awb have less touches in the final 3rd than the full backs in 14 of 20 clubs. That stat is skwed slightly by game times. But they are not in the top 10 for sure.
I think there are perceptions out there of how we play but they are not upheld by the facts.
Whatever the stats it been working well enough since the restart.
I hope Mondays performance was a blip only time will tell.

15.) 15 Jul 2020 13:01:20
Ken, you and your pesky facts.

Prior to pogba being caught out for the goal in that game, there were at least 2 other occasions that maguire was very close to being caught out playing out from the back. De Gea is extremely uncomfortable playing that way hence the reason why we don't usually play like that. We were clearly instructed to play that way, it doesn't suit the players we have.

Post these facts up ken I'm genuinely interested.

Only 2 players in the epl have made more passes than maguire this season, on 5 players have had more touches . that's not defenders but players .
Stats mean nothing with out context tho.

Well what can I say, I rest my case, albeit aided by an early sending off we actually pinned a team back and sometimes went back to go forward, and look what happens. We will see if they can continue and impose more in future games when needing to take the lead.

Manchester city are interested in him as 1 of a number of players to eventually replace fernandinho, someone I know was at the Lyon game just over a week ago to watch him and someone else for Lyon. This person who knows Paul Mitchell doesn't expect Paul Mitchell to come to us as a Dof either, not gospel just someone's opinion.

Prefer Verrati to any of them.

I personally think pulisic would be lined up by Chelsea to replace Willian. Ed002 mentioned that pulisic has potenially a better opportunity elsewhere and I think it would be Chelsea, being in London etc.

If given a choice I would rest players for Leicester game and save them for the Liverpool game. The chance to keep Liverpool out of the CL is too good to miss. At the same time if we were to lose to Leicester that equally makes things very difficult for Liverpool. We win both it doesn't really matter. Also Liverpool could be looking at similar transfer targets to us in the summer. We would be more attractive with CL football if Liverpool don't make the tip four. Liverpool should do well in the Europa next season meaning they would have a lot of games. Put that together with a flakey squad (Although I've heard they've got virtually the best player in the world in any given position according to a lot of their fans) then they will have equally a tough next season with much lower revenue.

85 million and we made him captain. *head drops*. He is part of the problem. Dithers on the ball and invites pressure with his passes at the back. He also doesn't seem to be able to think quickly to make up for his lack of mobility and pace.

I'm sure he's a United fan. Although he did say it when we were linked to him a few years ago.

Just seems to be a lot of noise that comes from Carragher. Very pro Liverpool, in his eyes they never commit any intentional fouls or dive. He can't help himself from having a dig about United or even Pogba. Very little depth in character to anything he says. Very lucky to be doing the job he is still doing after what we all witnessed.
