Romano reporting João Neves has agreed terms with PSG and now down to Benfica and PSG. It's a shame as I hoped he would be our CM of choice. Perhaps Neves to PSG unlocks the door for Ugarte to leave?

Jimbob, while we could potentially hijack the deal as nothing is signed yet. The reality is that we don't have the funds to compete for his signature given that Benfica want around 100m for him. If there is only one club interested then maybe they could get the fee down a little, but the moment two or more clubs are in for him Benfica know they can play them off against eachother and get the fee they want.
Neves is a good young player, who could potentially be great. But we don't have the funds to get into a bidding war for a player whose already valued at 100m by his club.

JD, Maybe not, but adding another player lacking pace into a league that is faster and more physical than what he has previously played in is probably not the best idea, especially when that player is 34 and doesn't have the time on his side to adapt.

For 'never going to be perfect', read unprepared. Carrick is head coach or manager, I said what I thought of that previously. The club are all in with him, so now they have to live with it. It's one game, so can't overreact, but can't deny it's a terrible, disgraceful result to start with.

Personally think Welbeck would have been a great choice at the cheaper end, but I'd say, for me, Ollie Watkins.
We could realistically play 60 games next season, so there would be plenty of minutes on offer.

We do need at least one more striker, 2 would be great, and with experience.
We will never win the prem again without more fire power, and Sesko seems a bit injury prone to me. I'd be looking at Watkins, Tony, Thiago and others.
Just look back to our prem winning era, and we had top top strikers, they were the jewel in Fergie's crown.
They do tend to cost, but if you want the trappings of success, then you need to show ambition and spend. I very much doubt the rat will, he'll be stuck in his bargain basement.

Mbeumo will be our striker to start.
Him and Sesko will rotate, along with Amad and Mbeumo for RW, then you have Lacey also for the right, Dorgu and Cunha left side, and then Rashford can play LW/ST if needed, and you also have Zirzkee who can play there.
I dont think we will get a striker; main concern is a LB and another CM.
They must not trust Amas to play as back up to Shaw, and, tbf, in that second half against Leeds we look very poor on that side.
I still think defensively we will struggle, de Ligt and Martinez cannot be trusted to have a season playing with no injuries, Maguire is not good enough and the two others are kids.
RB is also a concern; neither Dalot or Maz are good enough, and I cant see us selling Dalot anytime soon.

Redman, we had 4 strikers, but football changed. City won the league with Gundogan as top scorer, while Liverpool hit 90+ points with Firmino. How many goals did Firmino score? The need for a goalscorer isn't always there. Different styles require different kinds of players.

Unfortunately, it seems the list of managers available isn't what it needs to be, and so Carrick gets it by a process of elimination. That shouldn't be the position of 'the biggest club in England'.
I'll be behind Carrick 100%, but I don't see the current streak of luck lasting across a season with a lot more games to be played.

I think everything you've said there, Red Man, is because you've lived it, connected with the club, its players and what it means.
Speaking for myself, it's not so much a question of love for United, but for the game. When players are paid as much as they are, everything is so commercialised, tickets are prioritised for corporate viewers, FIFA is clearly corrupt, players are rolling around, VAR is taking the emotion out of every moment, and owners are in our game to do everything but care about the club - it's pretty hard to say you love the game.
Unfortunately, that rubs off on United for me because we are one of the biggest victims of most of those things.

Completely agree, Amorim was the change the club needed. A chance to push out rotten eggs, reset the dressing room culture, and build a long term, sustainable style.
We all know the first season with Amorim was a tough watch, but many forget that we were 5th when he left, with much needed reinforcements returning from the African Cup of Nations. Those returns conveniently landed on Carrick's plate.
Amad, Mbuemo, Cunha, and a number of others have not shown the form they showed under Amorim.
Mainoo has returned a better player, but can we not also thank Amorim for that with his tough love?
Like it or not, the comfy slippers description couldn't be a better one, and in my opinion, we are well and truly back on the merrigoround, when we had one foot of it with Amorim.
