After last night we're now on target to score 70+ goals compared with 44 last season. With our woeful defence we're going to concede over 60. So, plenty goal action, and If goal action is the main criterion for entertainment, United's games are probably the most entertaining from a neutral perspective in the EPL right now. Love or hate Amorim, football entertainment is what United should be all about and that element seems to be returning, as frustrating as it is to watch us give up leads game after game.

We all have our ideas about what we need to take the next step. Clearly we have problems in midfield and defence particularly in Amorim's preferred system. It would not surprise me if the club tries to sign someone in the January window. In the meantime I'll go along with 4-8 goal thrillers over a painful 0-0, 1-0, or 0-1.

I absolutely agree, last night as a whole lot of fun and I’m all for it. In the summer we sorted out our attack and we all knew that left us short in midfield and defence, if the next few windows improve our defence and midfield like the last one improved the attack then the future looks just fine, with a few youngsters shining and looking to knock on the door that hopefully we can keep hold of.

We are 2nd in the league for chances created and top of the league for shots. We are third in the league for goals scored. Every metric is a massive improvement on last year.

The issue is obviously the goals we concede. There is a glaring issue with the team, you see it every game. last night was a perfect example, we get absolutely destroyed my midfield runners both on and off the ball. The back line are set up and keep their discipline in most instances. We allow midfield runners to overload the defence.

Last night the three Bournemouth goals from open play were all due to the midfield not dong their job.

1st - Shaw loses the ball on the left, makes no effort to get the ball back, there is massive amounts of space as Casemiro isn't in the left CM position, Mount is having to sprint back to cover, Semenyo is allowed to run for appox 20 meters at the defence and scores.

2nd - Tavernier picks the ball up in the centre circle, Bruno is the wrong side, Tavernier is allowed to run with the ball for approx 10 meters and put in a through ball completely un impeded by Bruno.

4th - Jiménez picks the ball up in the centre circle to the right (no player within 7 meters), Bruno is on the left side of the pitch. Cuhna tries to get back to put him under pressure but there's too much space to make up player drives at the defence with the ball, puts in a through ball and they score.

This is constantly happening, we've lost loads of points this season as we have not picked up midfield runners.

We have a great creative vessel in Bruno, he however lacks tactical discipline. Casemiro hasn't got the legs to cover both him and Bruno and to be fair to Casemiro there isn't a player in football that can cover that much ground.

We desperately need to change this midfield. We need players with better tactical discipline, more energy and more tenacity. We need two players that an cover Brunos creative numbers whist actually providing cover for the defence.

Rewz good points and whilst I absolutely recognise brunos strengths i also see his short comings in his position at the moment.
For the 4th goal he was on the left but mainoo dived in to win a ball he couldn't win and left the midfield vacant.
The reasoning for that is that neither have defencive instincts and nous. Its not natural for them and the more frantic a game gets its plays into their strengths but more importantly throughly exposes their weaknesses.
Bruno gets exposed losing possession in bad areas and as you say players running off him. Cas is his cover and its been ok at times but when cas goes off the stats tell you we do worse.

But bruno also is our talisman and is involved in a high percentage of our attacking play and output.
Again i'm not a huge bruno fan but I respect him a lot and I acknowledge how hard he tries.
In his defence in order to be rounded he does not want to play deeper. For the way the manager wants to play he feels bruno is our best option to play with cas. We know he wants a cm. Is that to play with cas or with bruno. If he gets a cm My guess is it will be to play with cas for the remainder of the season and not with bruno.

How are you all lads? Hope the build up to Christmas is going well.

Last night was enjoyable and frustrating as hell for me, going forward we looked like a united team of old. Direct, pacy and creating chances at will. We should have been out of sight by half time.

Defensively was a bit more like soccer aid, but missing some players and young lads who will hopefully learn. The game however just sums us up perfectly right now, a consistently inconsistent team. We badly need a couple of central midfielders over the next couple of windows and probably reinforcements at full back.

We will get there, but at least from an attacking perspective, I’m very encouraged with the numbers and last nights performance.

16 Dec 2025 08:21:26
Well all I wanted for Christmas is a back 4. Not the result we wanted but a solid performance.

Two young CBs. De Ligt is sorely missed atm. Hopefully he returns soon and Lisandro Martinez gets match fit. We'll be ok defensively with those two.
Yesterday was a really good performance undermined by really poor defensive judgements but I'm convinced those players in defence will be top class in time, so I'll take it.

I totally agree.
I think having Dalot at RB and then Yoro and Heaven, Shaw at LB. Would make more sense.

16 Dec 2025 19:08:00
We more or less played with a back 4 last night.

Looking at the stats only city have scored more than us this season and we are joint second with Arsenal with 30 goals for. Clearly we’ve improved in that area as we struggled massively in that department last season. Defensively though we’ve the 6th worst record with 26 conceded, sort that out and we could be in business.

I think a lot of the issue is how exposed the system leaves our cbs and the fact our midfield is poor. Maybe a signing or 2 can help and a few tweaks to help provide more protection. Lammens has definitely helped but more work to do for sure.

Of course its a work inn progress. Is that a surprise to anyone? What were you expecting tim,
We are improving.

16 Dec 2025 09:56:01
We've also underperformed our xG, suggesting that we should have scored more.

The whole squad needed to be rebuilt this summer, but that was never likely to be possible. We spent big on the forward line as we really struggled for goals last season and looking at the stats so far it's clear that paid off.

However, we still need to rebuild the midfield, and the defence also needs a little work.

We've missed MdL and Maguire from the last few games, last night at CB we had two teenagers and a fullback. Of course we were going to be a little too open and mistakes were always likely.

Add to that a young, new keeper and it's clear we are missing leadership and experience when MdL and Maguire aren't available.

In midfield our best pairing is Bruno and Casemiro, yet even that pairing has obvious flaws. The problem is that none of the options on the bench solve those issues without bringing other bigger problems.

Until we get those new players in midfield and defence to finish the rebuild then our performances and results will continue to be patchy.

That wasn’t meant as a negative post Ken, more positive in fact as I was highlighting we’ve improved offensively.

16 Dec 2025 17:13:10
I get you Tim. I think we just need to stop being so reactionary after every game win or lose. We are improving. Reading headlines and dissing the club at every turn and junction does not help and is not supporting imo.

No issue with anybody not trusting a manager but running the club down on a daily basis is feeding the social media frenzy and giving a very slanted view on the reality imo.

 0

{Ed025's Note - but you cant blame people for being reactionary Ken when you keep shooting yourselves in the foot mate, you were doing fine then had three results where you were abysmal and should have done better, yesterday you scored 4 and still never won because your defence and midfield were a joke..

Ed025 I thought it was a great game to watch. One of the best for years we played very well going forward . We know the midfield is really vacant so no surprise. And the 2 teenage cbs made errors and shaw was great and hopeless as usual. Until there are better players in those positions we can lose any game. Very few people had us competing for top4 at the start of the season those same people are now moaning we are not 3rd when they didn't and couldn't have expected that.
Every poster wanted improvement year on year and they have improved on practically every single measurable stat. Yet still not happy? It could be better it could be worse butthe signs are good imo given that the squad is far from ideal for consistency.
We have thrown some points away primarily because we are not good and strong enough yet. But I think coming into the season everybody knew we were not strong enough so let's not miss the club at energy opportunity.

Its a long climb but we are showing signs of considerable improvement it may not be happening as fast as we would like but have you ever built a team or business or new framework from scratch? If you have you understand that tolerance is needed and if you hit road bombs you don't over react and as long as your strategy is showing signs you stick to it. The ability to separate strategy and emotion is not something football fans are known for. But in a situation like ours emotion can't overtake the tolerance and understanding imo. I think nearly every team in the league can say they should be 4 or 5 points better off this season. The league is very competitive more so than ever. I sort of expect the top 2 to pull away but the rest is very much up for grabs. We will rue those dropped points no doubt but we might win a few we don't deserve in the remainder of the season. The future looks brighter to a lot of fans than it has for a while.

{Ed025's Note - maybe im disappointed because you should be higher Ken, United have had some great chances to be higher and its so frustrating when you can go to Anfield and beat the Champions then lose at OT against 10 man Everton mate, so its no wonder supporters are pulling their hair out when you can play so well and also so pathetic even within the same game like last night, i will have ups and downs its part of the game but concentration and basic skills should be a given at this level and thats where you are falling down imo, i know you are a big Amorim fan but the set up looks wrong to me, too many gaps in midfield and a back 4 that go into panic mode when pressed is not a recipe for success, you have some very good individuals but as a team you look all over the place and thats down to the manager for me..

16 Dec 2025 19:24:14
I understand your thought process but I don't agree. Any defence will suffer with players streaming through midfield like Liverpool has. If your midfielders are not where they should be when they are needed then you are in trouble. When cas is not there its worse. But our midfield options are bruno (not a natural) mainoo ugarte cas.
When they played in a 3 man midfield how did they do? I don't care what shape you put them in that's a poxy selection . We need 2 starting cm players until that happens we will continue to be inconsistent.
I like RA correct but I do see his shortcomings. He is young inexperienced and learning on the job. The changes he is trying to implement and the club as a whole are trying to implement are never going to happen overnight it takes time and we are improving in nearly every single measurable stat so if your on the right track you need toto understand you will need to endure some pain to see the rainbow. I've a high Gillette for anybody working that shouted conduct improvement over a reasonable amount of time.

If and when the rate of investment and support outweighs the rate of improvement then you are entitled to ask questions. Imo the rate if the rate of improvement continues at its current trajectory them our Leo's target of 27/28 is possible. Sothats the target i'm not interested in short term gain or pain its sustained improvement and that's what we are experiencing imo.
Ra didn't bring united to 15th averaging not much over a point a game. He inherited a team with 11 points after 9 games sitting 15th.
I think we are 6th now without a midfield.
When was last time united were within 2 points of a cl place after 16 games?
Im not suggesting its good enough long term but we were on the floor and now we are 6th. It could be better its fine margins. We are just not good enough yet.
If we had beaten Everton in that 1 game would you think ra was doing well sitting 4th? 7 points off top?

 0

{Ed025's Note - its the inconsistency that worries me ken and the hero to zero instances that the whole team seem to be suffering from, you seem happy with the manager mate and i think hes probably the problem, but thats fine by me..

15 Dec 2025 20:40:52
Good first half so far but we need to score more. Can't believe Ireola will accept Bournemouths first half performance.

And then they score

So predictable.

 0

15 Dec 2025 20:59:18
Thank goodness Casemeiro scored to reflect our superiority. We really do need to put teams to the sword. Some of the approach play is really good but we need that killer instinct of old to bury teams and give them no sniff of a chance. That said a real pleasure to see them go at it from the off.

15 Dec 2025 22:43:24
Disjointed we didn't win that Salford. I thoroughly enjoyed the game. We battered them for the 1st 35 mins and should have scored a couple more. We could easily have won and in the end could have lost.
Some good fotball played by us great running off the ball and fluffed our finish too often. Mbeumo could hand done better a couple if times.

No midfield is costing us. Bruno does his best in there but not a natural and when cas goes off we have no defence minded player there. A couple of players there would make the world of difference. Hard to be satisfied with the result but great game ro watch unless your a defencive coach.

 1

15 Dec 2025 22:57:48
Thought mainoo played really well in the pockets when he came on.
Cunha was brilliant tonight and mount too mbeumbo was off it I thought.
Again poor defending cost us I thought we looked far better in a 433 though at the end Shaw is still a brilliant left back in a 4 for me.

 4

15 Dec 2025 23:00:26
Agree Ken

Midfield def a priority but don't want a second rate player like Gallagher. Get in a top top player. Also we miss de Ligt.

 5

15 Dec 2025 23:24:44
Yeah cb is a tough spot for young lads in the epl. Shaw was hot and very cold tonight imo. Mainoo did well but jumped in didn't win it and vacated midfield with no bruno there to cover just a lack of experience and defencive instincts and we got caught vacant in midfield.

Cunha great all game delighted to see him get a goal. Great free kick by bruno. We bossed it early and missed great chances.
Great game to watch imo. But disappointed with the result yet happy we didn't lose it. 🤷‍♂️😆.

16 Dec 2025 02:20:38
we are a very poor team managing a game. his substitutions are an ongoing trend that makes things worse. not going to do anything if this is how we play. we score but are piss poor defending.

 1

16 Dec 2025 06:14:38
No point analysing that game to much ahmad, yes disappointing not to win but just enjoy it for what it was, the games against Everton and West ham were the big let downs.

 0

16 Dec 2025 06:49:09
We found our attacking mojo but they ran right through the middle of us. The central midfield is wide open. Until fixed, this will be the same. At least in the first half whilst Cas could keep up we looked ok, until Shaw messed up.
Defensively we have two young centre backs who lack any protection at all in front of them, especially if our CM give the ball away in high risk places, which they do, whether angel likes it or not.

Substitutes were not an issue last night anyway. Maybe he needs to put Martinez in front of the back four in CM and just sit.

 2

16 Dec 2025 10:09:26
Red man, Martinez doesn’t have the discipline imo to sit and screen. He will just jump into tackles.

If we end up in a 4 long term, I’m not sure he will be a starter if I’m honest.

 3

16 Dec 2025 13:19:03
yoro has been terrible. the first goal I am not sure what on earth he was doing not going to close down heir winger. he has been poor quite a lot of games. too many runs getting behind him or across him.

 1

16 Dec 2025 16:05:08
That was Heaven Ahmad, not Yoro.

16 Dec 2025 17:17:14
Well understood scholes. Some like to focus on negativity lots of positives last night which is what most reasonable fans will focus on.
I think we all know the squad has shortcomings so it can't be a surprise to anyone when those shortcomings display themselves. They're are few desperados that just can't wait to jump on the negatives. 🤣🤣.

Why, when I press on the United Live Chat link am I sent to the log in page to the Chelsea page? I can’t get on the United chat.

{Ed033's Note - Maybe if you change chelsea to manchesterunited it will appear?

15 Dec 2025 17:00:50
What's Amorim doing with the academy players on loan 😂.

 0

15 Dec 2025 17:47:11
It was all a bit bizarre. He dissed Amass who won player of the month and also Collyer, who is injured but was apparently doing well. I really don't know what to make of it.

 0

15 Dec 2025 18:32:57
Very peculiar stuff alright. I'm not sure how I feel about it. But sometimes I think it's best of he just keeps it closed on certain subjects, particularly one so close to Man United fans, the academy, that's what we were built upon.

Liverpool v Brighton & Hove Albion - A Quick Liverpool Perspective

So tomorrow is yet another opportunity to make a move up to the European places. Let's hope the team is up for it and they don't blow it once again. Winning games is not easy as Spurs and Newcastle fans will attest. Even Arsenal at home only beat Wolves by the odd goal.

 2

15 Dec 2025 05:56:06
Bournemouth are a tough team to play against, it'll be a difficult game.

 4

15 Dec 2025 10:52:40
3-1 united.

 0

15 Dec 2025 13:37:49
Bournemouth as shap said are a tough team to play but they aren't at there best i'm going with jimbob think it will be an easy win with us giving up yet another goal.

 0

15 Dec 2025 15:25:20
Lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth the last two seasons. So definitely won’t be an easy game.

Might come down to who gets the first goal.

They haven’t been the usual Bournemouth the last few weeks, but still a good team that can score goals.

Hopefully Semenyo has an eye on a Jan transfer rather than the game.

 0

{Ed025's Note - i think the way Utd play it really suits Bournemouth FG, they like to play on the counter and your midfield leaves a lot of gaps for them to run into, you are right about it not being an easy game mate..

 0

15 Dec 2025 17:34:20
No easy games in this league. Wolves put it up to arsenal yesterday. i'd take the same result now in a heartbeat. On any given day most teams are capable of winning amd losing.
Our next 2 games after this are really tricky imo so getting 3 points tonight is vital. Its our last game before we lose the afcon lads so need to win.
