To the editors, who are the club looking at as options for the positions of RB and RW?
Thank you!

{Ed002's Note - It may well depend on whether or not the club can sell Diogo Dalot, but ideally they would like Max Aarons at RB - but I suspect he would not be keen and would prefer a move to Everton or Arsenal if Bellerin leaves or Spurs if Aurier can be sold. For RW it is unclear if Manchester United will follow up on the huge embarrassment of last year with Jadon Sancho or if they will look to the likes of Leon Bailey, Dembele, Sarr or others they have looked at. They are not one of the clubs actively pushing for early transfer agreements right now and may have decided the two youngsters added last year may just be OK for them.}

1.) 17 Apr 2021 12:24:21
Ed, is it looking like Dortmund may struggle to move Sancho on again this summer? Between C.V. strangling finances, agents fees and a supposed lack of interest from the top clubs could he run into his final year?

{Ed002's Note - Jadon Sancho (RW) Manchester United messed everybody around last year and he has again been offered elsewhere to those who had previously enquired, but they are still not interested. If Manchester United want him they are going to have to agree a deal before the summer. I would not be surprised to see interest from Liverpool but they have financial issues which could impact any offer.

His contract is not up in 2022.}

2.) 17 Apr 2021 13:03:21
Thanks Ed002! Max Aarons - still a Norwich departure even if promoted this season?

{Ed002's Note - There are a number of interested sides so perhaps.}

3.) 17 Apr 2021 13:59:40
Thanks again.

4.) 17 Apr 2021 17:20:07
Max Aarons is a good player and being so young he should still improve quite considerably. If he has any sense he shouldn't join us though.

AWB is first choice and you'd think he would end up a lot like Telles, playing in the odd league game but mostly relegated to playing in cup competitions or weaker opponents. If he moves to Everton or Arsenal he'd be first choice and would likely end up a better player in the long run.

5.) 17 Apr 2021 23:39:45
Because if he’s that good and if he thinks he’s that good himself, he’ll join and win that position as his own and leave less talented players to join clubs not as big as Man Utd.

6.) 18 Apr 2021 00:03:41
Trippier makes a lot of sense as cover and someone to bridge time while laird develops or not.

7.) 18 Apr 2021 13:34:23
At the time when we signed AWB I said on here that I thought Max Aarons would be a better fit for us.

He suits a side that will have the majority of possession and needs their full backs to get involved in the attacks.

I think AWB is a great player with huge potential. Just always felt his biggest strengths come when defending, which isn't something a full back should be doing too much of at a top club.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if we signed Aarons that within 18 months he would be first choice and AWB would be reduced to a back up role.

8.) 19 Apr 2021 13:54:23
I cannot see us buying a right winger this summer. First choice Greenwood and have plenty of back-up Rashford, Amad, James.
3 signings RB, CD, CF.

9.) 19 Apr 2021 15:07:17
We MAY just have dodged a sancho bullet by messing them around last season, so not every mess is necessarily bad news :P.

27 Feb 2021 08:07:05
A quick question for the Editors please.
Growing reports the club are looking to sign a RB this Summer, any truth to these or are the club content with existing options including those in the youth setup?

{Ed002's Note - As has previously been explained the club want back up to AW-B.}

1.) 27 Feb 2021 18:30:12
Trippier would be ideal. Someone who would be preferable against sides where we are going to dominate the ball and would be reasonably cheap.

2.) 27 Feb 2021 18:50:58
We already have a back up in williams why waste money when other positions need addressing.

3.) 27 Feb 2021 22:49:39
They obviously don’t think Williams is good enough?

4.) 28 Feb 2021 10:13:44
Trippier is great offensively but not so good defensively. I would rather we took a chance on oneof the youngsters to see if they can make the grade.

5.) 28 Feb 2021 10:27:27
Personally I wouldn't be looking at a RB, with Williams and Laird on the books and AWB only being 23 it isn't an area of dying need. Plus players like Tuanzebe, Lindelof and Bailly can easily cover RB if necessary.

For me the order of priority would be CB, CDM, Creative flexible wide player, ST then back up RB.

6.) 28 Feb 2021 13:02:38
Trippier makes sense to me as Downsie says above he offers a lot more than AWB going forward. AWB is a clone of Valencia when going forward. Trippier also has excellent delivery.

Still plenty of time for Williams and I think a loan to a PL club is needed this summer.

{Ed077's Note - Dalot and Laird are still on the books as well as Brandon Williams. On top of that Man Utd also signed a kiddie from Barcelona, Marc Jurado. So I don't think RB should be any sort of priority until the club can decides what to do with some of the players already on the books.}

7.) 28 Feb 2021 17:44:59
Not sure what’s wrong with Dalot as a rotation?

8.) 28 Feb 2021 19:14:01
I think Brandie is good enough never let us down.

9.) 28 Feb 2021 21:39:16
Tuanzebe at RB? Did you watch the PSG game Shappy?
Aarons would be a great signing but I don’t imagine he wants to be anyone’s back-up.

10.) 01 Mar 2021 06:55:07
077 we might have a number of RBs at the club but if they’re not yet ready to step up then we need reinforcements. Trippier would be a good fit for a couple of years.

{Ed077's Note - but still the club has to first decide on what to do with the guys already at the club. You can't keep adding players without letting some go.}

11.) 01 Mar 2021 08:57:15
Spenno, Tuanzebe has played at RB on several occasions and if fairly comfortable there. On his first full start he marked a top form Alexis Sanchez out of the game from RB.

He's definitely better as a CB, but if had injury issues at RB then he can more than do a job there.

I agree with Ed077, with AWB, Dalot, Williams, Laird and Juardo on the books, all of which are special-ists RB's, along with players like Tuanzebe and Lindelof who can cover there in an emergency. I don't see RB as a high priority. We need to decide to futures of the ones we have first. Juardo is almost certainly too young and inexperienced. Laird might be best with another loan. Maybe Williams needs a loan to continue to develop. Maybe Dalot will be sold. Either way until we have answers for those questions then surely other positions need addressing first.

I don't think I'll be the only cannon here annoyed if at the start of next season we have a shiny new back up RB but no new CB, or A CDM, or a creative wide player. If we sign a back up player before we sign a player for a position of real need in the first 11 then it's just further proof of what a shambles our club is.

12.) 01 Mar 2021 13:59:06
Agreed 077 there definitely needs to be a plan in place for the youngsters. But that shouldn't prevent us from strengthening the first team.

It would be good to see Williams and Laird out on loan next season, gaining 30+ appearances each.

I'm not sure why there's an obsession with playing players out of position just because they 'can do a job there'. Tuanzebe, Lindelof and Bailly are centre backs, not long-term solutions to the right-back position, or even competition for that position. They're cover at best.

{Ed077's Note - right they are hardly a solution at CB lol.}

13.) 01 Mar 2021 14:34:40
Wazza, for me it's simple if we can only make 3 signings this summer, for you should a RB be one of them?

14.) 01 Mar 2021 16:01:57
Good old Shappy moving the goal posts again 😂

No I wouldn't sign an RB if we could only make 3 signings this summer.

Likewise; Tuanzebe, Lindelof and Bailly are not right backs.

15.) 01 Mar 2021 17:22:46
I'm not saying they are, I'm saying we have 5 special-ist RB's at the club. With AWB the undisputed first choice and will play when fit (I think he has missed less than 5% of games since he signed) . So we are really only looking for someone to play 5-8 games a season and ideally push AWB.

What I'm saying is that with 4 other RB's at the club and three CB's who can play RB if push really did come to shove. Then I think we are fine at RB and it would be a luxury signing for if and when we have signed all our first team improvements we need.

16.) 01 Mar 2021 18:49:26
Shappy I think you’re getting confused with the number of first team RBs at the club.

AWB - nailed on as you say will play 95% of games. This is a problem. He plays this many games because there’s no real competition. If Trippier was brought in he’d offer another option against teams who sit back, which we desperately need. He and AWB could get enough game time over a full season.

Williams is not fancied, but has time.
Dalot is not fancied, but has time.

The others are kiddies.

So if Trippier is available on the cheap I’d take him as he offers a lot more than AWB going forward.

Whether it’s Trippier or someone else, we do need more threat against defensive teams than AWB is providing.

17.) 01 Mar 2021 22:01:48
Yh people unnecessarily complicating this and not adding context.

If an experienced, relatively cheap option like trippier is available who has played at a really high level and offers something in attack that AWB clearly lacks, seems like a no brainer to me.

Especially if plans to sign a RW are being put to one side Yet again because we need to sign a striker. Something needs to start happening on the right hand side because i'm tired of just attacking solely down one side of the pitch.

18.) 02 Mar 2021 09:19:51
In an ideal world sure I'd be signing a back up RB, I'd also be signing a CB, CDM, RW and a ST.

Probably something like Kounde, Rice, Sancho, Haaland and Trippier.

Although Trippier's current suspension for breaking gambling regulations does raise serious questions over his suitability. So maybe Max Aarons.

However, Kounde or any top CB will cost 60m+, Rice or another top CDM will cost 60m+, Sancho will be upwards of 80m, Haaland upwards of 100m, while either Trippier or Aarons would be around the 20-25m mark. So you'd be looking at 325m for a summer spend. Realistically I think we have maybe a third of that at best.

C.V. has hit every club, we have lost over 100m in match day revenue. While historically we don't spend as much when we get top 4.

The club terminated Rojo's contract in January just to save a couple of million. Two years ago they agreed a 16m deal with Everton then wanted an extra 2m so the deal collapsed. Yet now that greed for an extra 2m has become releasing an asset to save a minimal amount on wages.

That's where the club is financially. So I think 100-120m is the maximum we'll see spent this summer. So it's vital to prioritise which signings will have the biggest impact on the first team if we want to make the most ground on those above us.

{Ed077's Note - why do you think Trippier or Aarons will be happy to be back up? Trippier was still in the England squad last time and Aarons has attracted interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Everton at one point or another so why would he move to be a "back up" when he can move elsewhere or even stay at Norwich who are currently top of Championship and might get promoted to PL? The fact that AW-B is fit 90% of the time means even considering more rotation you are still looking at only around 1/3rd minutes to be available for the "back-up" without injury issues.

Surely the club wants a backup option not first choice player.}

19.) 02 Mar 2021 10:04:12
Ed077, I mentioned Trippier and Aarons only because they are the two most linked RB's to United at the moment.

{Ed077's Note - I know Shaps.}

20.) 02 Mar 2021 10:42:53
Trippier wouldn't be a back up if he joined, could see him and AWB sharing game time pretty even, especially in games where we expect more attacking output from our full backs.

At the moment what incentive is there for AWB to improve considerably at the attacking part of his game? None because williams isn't going to take his place, neither is dalot who has hardly impressed at Milan.

Could easily see AWB up his game like shaw has after telles joined.

21.) 02 Mar 2021 11:07:43
I mean if we play an average of 55-60 games a season then what we are looking for is someone to play 10-15 games a season as AWB will be expected to play 40-50 games a season without too much trouble.

Personally I think either Williams or Dalot are more than capable of that. So unless both are likely to leave I see no need to buy a new RB.

22.) 02 Mar 2021 13:18:26
Shappy I think you're mistaken there. If we sign Trippier, AWB will get less game time, and rightly so.

AWB isn't good enough offensively to be playing 50 games a season. If we signed Trippier then AWB will make less appearances, and I'd hope two see him rise to the challenge just as Luke Shaw has.

This is of course all hypothetical, like your budget plan above.

23.) 02 Mar 2021 13:51:21
Wazza, so what your suggesting is more similar to when we signed Zlatan to back up Rashford and Martial. The issue is then the older player often pushes the younger player out entirely which can stunt their development.

AWB has huge potential, but he won't learn anything sat on the bench.

24.) 02 Mar 2021 14:40:44
Nonsense, Zlatan was never signed to back up rashford and martial. Clearly signed to be mourinhos starting number 9.

Also rashfords development doesn't look too stunted to me, one of the best players in his age group.

If that happens to AWB, i'd take that lol.

25.) 02 Mar 2021 16:19:52
Shappy you don't half make things up.

Zlatan is a Mourinho player. You are saying Mourinho signed one of his favourite sons to put him on the bench? You know you don't think that. And if the more experienced player contributes more, that's good for the team. Hard lines for the younger player if they don't rise to the challenge. It just shows they don't have the minerals so they are best moved on. See Martial.

In contrast we brought Telles in and Luke Shaw's response has been incredible, but you won't use that as an example as it doesn't fit your argument.

{Ed077's Note - Bringing Telles has meant Brandon has completely been disregarded as a LB, the position in which he broke through last season. And my point all along is I hate seeing that happen. Players' career basically being stalled due to lack of minutes. So there's not much need of a new RB until the fututres of the likes of Dalot and Laird have been addressed.}

26.) 02 Mar 2021 19:02:38
I get that sentimental point of view Ed077, but if Williams, Dalot and Laird were good enough right now they’d get more minutes.

They all need a loan at a club where they’ll play most games.

We can’t offer that at the moment, and and if a better player than the 3 of them is available and he’ll improve the squad, we should sign him. Especially in the example of Trippier who would offer something different for the next two years while the kiddies get more game time elsewhere.

Relying on one of those 3 youngsters coming good is a gamble and one we can figure out over time. If they’re good enough, they’ll make it.

{Ed077's Note - there is no sentiment involved there Wazza. I have the same opinion on Amy players at any club. There is no point keeping in a player who will receive next to 0 minutes.

I get the feeling you aren't quite as convinced with AW-B as I am. I see him as good enough to be playing 45-50games a season and so don't think the likes of Trippier would be happy with the prospect of only 15_20 games a season.}

27.) 03 Mar 2021 12:37:39
I'm not entirely convinced by AWB Ed, no. I think he's very good in 1vs1 situations.

Going forward he's not done anything to convince me that he provides an attacking threat.

Tactically I've seen him play the opposition on side at least twice, one leading to a goal and the other needing a save from DDG to stop a certain goal.

Goes without saying I'd like to see AWB improve in those areas, and RB isn't an immediate problem area.

Additionally I like to call out Shappy on his BS 😆.

25 Feb 2021 06:53:42
Certainly sounds as though several European clubs are starting to go about Summer transfer business. A question for the editors please, have United began any enquiries and in particular, has there been any contact with Dortmund again re: Sancho? Thank you.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United messed everybody around last year and he has again been offered elsewhere recently. If Manchester United want him they are going to have to agree a deal, primarily with his agent, before the summer. Borussia Dortmund have financial issues and they will worsen if they do not qualify for the Champions League next season. They will have a new coach next season and have chosen one who will look to develop from within and look to youngsters to bring in to work with the more experienced players, but their expectation is that they will need to raise considerable funds through selling players - and they have a lengthy list of those who will be available including the likes of Haaland and Sancho. At this point in time I do not believe that Manchester United are trying to strike a deal for the player.}

1.) 25 Feb 2021 12:41:48
Ed, do you think MU will look at Haaland this summer?

{Ed002's Note - No, the amateurs have likely blown that chance.}

2.) 25 Feb 2021 11:00:29
So insightful Ed002 - thank you.
I can’t get my head around the fact you offer this info for free? Inspiring stuff. Are donations put into keeping the site live etc?

{Ed033's Note - yes.

21 Feb 2021 11:17:49
Happy Sunday everyone.
To one of the Editors if I may.
De Gea and Henderson, I cannot see both staying at the club next season. A novice decision to keep both this year especially given the money both are earning.

Will one of them be moved on in the Summer and if so who? Are there any sides interested?

{Ed002's Note - Manchester UNited are already losing two Gs this summer and will look to keep both.}

1.) 21 Feb 2021 11:30:26
DDG gets paid a fortune and still has 2 years left on his contract, who would pay a fee and match his wages? DDG will probably leave on a free in 2023.

2.) 21 Feb 2021 11:38:33
With Romero and Grant leaving in the summer it will be difficult to allow either a player like DDG or potentially our future GK Henderson leave.

What would have been a smarter plan for this season would have been to have loaned Henderson back out to Sheffield United or even another EPL club this season. Then sign an experienced back up keeper who is good enough to challenge for the No.1 spot or at least fill in without a huge drop off in quality while allowing Romero to leave. Maybe someone like Jasper Cillessen who isn't first choice at Valencia but has experience at top clubs. Then in the summer of 2021 we could have allowed DDG to leave and brought back Henderson to compete with the other keeper for the No.1 spot.

3.) 21 Feb 2021 11:51:46
Many thanks, Ed002!

4.) 21 Feb 2021 17:32:51
Didnt we quote £6million to Sheffield Utd to loan him for the season and they said no.

5.) 22 Feb 2021 13:36:41
Romero should have been given a go at number one. De gea is allover the place pretty much every game. Maguire, Lindelof and De gea is not a good mix and they are awful together to be honest. I can't see how we can keep both keepers happy either. We've handled this so bad it's unreal ED02 is spot on when he says we are run by amateurs. Absolutely clueless!

16 Feb 2021 08:29:47
If one of the Editors don't mind, could they confirm whether the club will go back in for Sancho this Summer?

{Ed002's Note - Jadon Sancho (RW) Manchester United messed everybody around last year and he is again been offered elsewhere and Dortmund are likely to let him and a number of others leave this summer. If Manchester United want him they are going to have to agree a deal before the summer and stop behaving like amateurs.}

1.) 16 Feb 2021 12:50:07
Thank you Ed002. Bayern seem to have already started their Summer business. I’ll keep my fingers crossed we do the same.

So there is a chance?

{Ed002's Note - Plenty of clubs have started their summer business. Hi agent has been hawking Sancho around and Dortmund are looking for significant sales this summer so perhaps something can be done - but the costs are huge.}

2.) 16 Feb 2021 15:20:21
Many thanks Ed002. Agent fees astronomical I’m imagining? I read an article by someone at Bayern earlier who spoke about the contract Messi is on. Can you see a time when the money being spent on players, agents etc will start to reduce significantly?

{Ed002's Note - If FIFA get their way then yes.}

3.) 16 Feb 2021 15:57:39
Hope not. Don’t see all the hype myself.

4.) 17 Feb 2021 03:41:14
We are better off getting a clinical striker rather than another forward player for a huge fee.

We should be concentrating on strengthening in CB, DM, ST positions as we already have enough players in forward positions.

To the brilliant Editors.
Are United interested / open to the possibility of swap deals this Summer?

{Ed002's Note - I would think it unikely - who do you have in mind?}

1.) 21 Mar 2021 15:13:52
Maguire for a bag of cement (more mobile), Jones for for a packet of Quavers (less brittle), Andreas Pereira for a umbrella (because its Manchester), Lingard for Messi? (future worlds best player for the declining worlds best player) . Any of those would be good.

A very gentle re-request to Ed002 for a holistic update on the possible ins and outs this Summer when they find a convenient time. Hope everyone remains safe and well, there is light at long last at the end of this very dark tunnel.

{Ed002's Note - It won’t be for at least a week.}

13 Feb 2021 10:13:44
Stumbled across the site this morning, looks like a really strong community.
Does anyone have any idea on likely departures this Summer? Pogba, Mata, Jones, Lingard, James, Martial, Williams all possible from what I've read.

1.) 13 Feb 2021 10:54:59
Welcome to the madhouse. Pogba and Lingard I think are highly likely to leave. As is Mata as I don't see the club offering him a new deal.
Jones will leave if anyone is mad enough to sign him. James and Williams will only leave on loan if at all. Martial I highly doubt will leave, the club would want a large fee and would then need to replace him, so unless someone offers silly money I don't see that happening.

There are others that could/ should be leaving such as Grant, Romero, both Joel and Andreas Pereira, with possibly Matic as well.

2.) 13 Feb 2021 10:57:10
More like a dysfunctional family.

3.) 13 Feb 2021 14:40:27
Yeah, we have crazy uncle Tony, Grumpy dad Red Man, long suffering mum who's drunk half a bottle of gin by lunchtime GDS, the argumentative twins Ken and Jred. Rambling grandad DLIB, grandma Wazza who knows all the old wives tales, and cousin (lost) it Shappy.
