Good afternoon Ed's 👍🏻, just a quick question regarding shirt sales. Do United make all the profit on the shirts sold directly by them? (From website, club shop) . As I seem to remember ed002 I think? mentioning that Adidas make the bulk if not all of the money on sales due to their deal with United? If I've got the complete wrong end of the stick then please correct me 😂 👍🏻 Nice one.

LickyfieldsM7

{Ed002's Note - Manchester United make the retailers profit on shirts sold in the shop. Adidas have the manufacturers profit.}

1.) 04 Sep 2021 14:56:03
Got it 👍🏻 Thanks Ed 😄.

2.) 04 Sep 2021 16:35:13
Although Adidas gets most of the profit from the shirt, they pay United 75M a year to be able to do so. The more Adidas makes in this deal, the higher the next deal in 2025 can be for United.

3.) 04 Sep 2021 16:59:46
This is true in part FGIC. But they will also look forward at what they believe the next 5 years will hold. They are unlikely to be too swayed by the Ronaldo shirt selling frenzy, but it does show how big the market is if Utd have similar mega stars in the team of the future.

4.) 04 Sep 2021 23:05:36
Exactly, DB. Also, I just read short sales total revenue to be 32m for what they managed in the first 12 hours. They might end the year selling merchandise worth 100m+ with this deal.

5.) 05 Sep 2021 12:40:57
Wow. If they made that much through shorts alone, they must have made an absolute killing when socks and shirts are also taken into account!

6.) 05 Sep 2021 14:25:04
Redseven, that was the revenue for used shorts from the kit bin. There are some people who love to smell them.

We may or may not get the CM/ CDM we're crying out for today but I feel the club has had a fantastic window with incomings and seems to have shown a big improvement in how they go about their business. They need to work on the outgoings but still we seem to have some kind of plan going forward which is refreshing compared to previous seasons. I'm still hoping we pull off a deadline day deal but if not then I'm ok with it, maybe the smart move is to work on clearing the ranks as a priority to be ready for jan/ summer? 👍🏻.

Ronaldo is playing for United again, never thought I'd see it. Now I can take my kids to see one of the greatest players of all time.

2.) 31 Aug 2021 16:32:29
Whats the plan then on the pitch, to be overan like we were against Wolves and several times last season or to have no link between defence and attack like happens so often and cost us points last season?

Good job in bringing in the players they have and its not easy to shift players on high wages but we go into the rest of the season with the same achillies heel we have had for the last 3 seasons and so we must expect more of the same results which is to say aiming for top 4 and a good showing in the cups. Same goal as the last 5 seasons.

3.) 31 Aug 2021 16:51:47
I’m taking about the club in general not necessarily on the pitch pal. We are slowly getting things in order imo, and about time too. We know the club have identified the weaknesses in the squad and the players we have signed all improve us imo. They’re also looking at midfielders (where we’re weak) which shows they know we need an upgrade. It’s not perfect at the min but there seems to some kind of plan. Remember the days of last min deals for Fellaini etc 😂👍🏻.

4.) 31 Aug 2021 17:30:29
LickyfieldsM7, firstly get a name I can spell without checking it 3 times please lol.
We have done good this year with Sancho and Varane, 2 places we needed to strengthen. The important piece of the jigsaw was always a CDM or DM or Screening Midfielder or whatever is flavour this week. A Ndidi or Kante or Bissouma or Rice type player who does the hard work for the flair players to attack. We had to go for Ronaldo when he was available, however think it was a slick move for City to declare interest as they knew we would likely move to stop him going there, they did the same with Fred and Sanches I think. We should have been selling Lingard and Fred at the start to get the right midfielder.

5.) 31 Aug 2021 18:27:32
CSF 😂😂👍🏻. I’m with you guys on the DM situation we should of moved players on quicker, and I’m not trying to make out that everything is great now, just a lot better. Hopefully if we can move a couple on before the deadline and in jan we will pretty much be able to sign whoever we can afford next season. 👍🏻.

6.) 31 Aug 2021 19:16:17
I agree in part Lickyfields with progress of the pitch but I really thought we would address midfield this window as its so important. and we have bought in excellent players . Good luckto you.

30 Aug 2021 13:43:13
If Lingard stays I don't think it's a bad thing, he's a decent player who definitely offers something imo, plus he's united through and through since he was a toddler so if he's happy to stay and fight it out for his place as a squad player then I think the club are right not to force him out. There's 3 or 4 players we should look to move on before him. Obviously if he feels he needs to go and be a regular starter somewhere then I'd wish him all the luck in the world.
Any thoughts? . 👍🏻.

LickyfieldsM7

1.) 30 Aug 2021 13:57:13
I'm United through and through, but I shouldn't be anywhere near a football pitch :D
He's never going to be a great, but can have great moments. He should probably have gone if he had the chance but looks like the Hammers have moved on. He's just another semi-decent player on a huge wage trapped at the club because none of the clubs at his level are able can pay him.

2.) 30 Aug 2021 14:04:54
Lingard is best of James, Mata, Martial and Lingard.
If he is okay with a bit part role, happy to keep him.
But he should ahead of these 4 but ole will play james and martial first because he loves them.

3.) 30 Aug 2021 14:16:39
As a back up player Lingard is useful on paper.

Yet we have seen with both ourselves and at West Ham that his best form is only achievable if he is starting every week.

Like many players he lacks the ability to produce his best form of he is only playing 20 minutes here and there.

While we currently have Rashford, Pogba, Martial and probably Sancho ahead of him on the left.

Bruno, Pogba and maybe Donny (should be at least) ahead of him at No.10.

Sancho, Greenwood, James and Rashford ahead of him on the right.

So it do we keep a player who will be out of contract next year to be our 4th choice option in any of his possible playing positions.

While his place in the squad as a 4th choice option means we might not be able to bring in a first choice option in midfield.

We also have some really wonderful youth players like Amad (whose injury will prevent him leaving on loan), Elanga, and Shoretire who personally I think would be better suited to playing the minutes Lingard would take up.

We have several players from a playing perspective have very little to offer and should be allowed to leave. Grant (moved into a coaching role maybe), Bailly and Jones offer nothing but keeping the physio's busy, Andreas Pereira, Lingard, James all need to be shown the door.
Mata and Matic offer experience which was something we were missing, but with Ronaldo and Varane joining we do have more top level winning experience, so maybe they aren't as needed as before.

4.) 30 Aug 2021 15:05:11
Lingard showed last season that he isn't a bit part player. i hope he goes and finds a club that will play him regularly. He's better than a squad player. I'm surprised nobody has signed him in yet, he would improve a lot of teams in the pl.

27 Aug 2021 18:29:21
Now that morale seems to be up across the board maybe we can use CRs homecoming to all get together as fans and get behind the team and get behind the manag. 👀 ok maybe not 😂.
No, but on a serious note it's looks like it's going to be an interesting season, maybe even another midfielder if players can be moved on before the window closes.

1.) 27 Aug 2021 18:44:08
We have on paper one the most exciting attacking line ups

The defence is one of the strongest

The manager has to play the right players now. Play attacking and play to our strenths.

2.) 27 Aug 2021 20:51:49
True pal, exciting times to come 👍🏻.

13 Jun 2021 13:07:18
I think the Croatian manager picked England's 11 today!

LickyfieldsM7

{Ed014's Note - really, I thought he was a switched on guy! 😉😂

1.) 13 Jun 2021 13:38:37
Trippier at left-back?
What will Shaw and Chilwell be thinking lol :)

2.) 13 Jun 2021 14:13:31
Trippier is better than both of them imo.

3.) 13 Jun 2021 14:28:04
Shaw will be thinking bloody hell we best not sign Trippier.

4.) 13 Jun 2021 14:28:37
Who'd have thought Pickford was a better goalkeeper than De Gea?

5.) 13 Jun 2021 14:41:45
I don't think Trippier is better, he doesn't get forward enough. He does however have bags of experience.

6.) 13 Jun 2021 15:55:24
Mumbles, you might want to wait until tomorrow before saying stuff like that. From the sounds of it Simon the Bilbao keeper will be starting for Spain. Imagine that the keeper for the side that finished 10th in La Liga is better than DDG? 😱.

{Ed077's Note - well Pickford is the keeper for the team that finished 10th in the PL and he is deemed better than the keeper who plays ahead of DDG at UTD. (I am just showing how the whole "logic" works. Nor my own views...)

7.) 13 Jun 2021 16:20:08
I'm posting in jest Shappy. I don't rate Pickford at all to be honest, I just found it amusing Southgate has picked him ahead of Henderson.

8.) 13 Jun 2021 16:48:55
Do we have a page where we discuss England on here?

Tactically I thought Southgate and his team got it spot on.

{Ed033's Note - You can discuss England on this site.

9.) 13 Jun 2021 17:40:02
Mumbles, I'm not a fan of Pickford. He's a little too erratic for me. He doesn't inspire confidence in his defenders. Good shot stopper and good distribution. But not so good as to make up for his other shortcomings in my opinion.

Southgate like every manager has his favourites. While Pickford had a wobble during the season he was for the majority of the season Everton's No.1.

Henderson is a better keeper than Pickford no doubt. But he only had an 8 game run toward the end of the season. In fairness to Southgate that alone makes it hard to pick him ahead of someone like Pickford.

However, I'm pretty sure had Pope not picked up and injury then Pickford might have found himself benched.

10.) 13 Jun 2021 17:48:43
England. pffft Didn't watch it.

I have never been so uninterested in England since the world cup so I'm hoping by disinterest serves as good luck!

How was it?

A good result on face value.

11.) 13 Jun 2021 18:11:53
The performance was better than the result for me. I thought England asserted an element of control at all times even in the periods where Croatia had more of the ball.

The deployment of Rice Mount and Phillips who was the pick of Englands players nullified the threat of Crotia's Midfield.

As legs tired in the middle, he brought on the energy of Bellingham who every time I see him just impresses.

12.) 13 Jun 2021 19:43:32
I thought the performance was impressive in an understated way.

Croatia had Modric, Kovacic and Brozovic in midfield. A top class, experienced trio. Yet Rice, Phillips and Mount controlled the game.

England looked dangerous, but lacked that killer instinct that comes after a few games together.

If they can find their rhythm then they could go far.

13.) 13 Jun 2021 20:57:45
The riches England have is unreal. The players they can leave at home would be the star players for many other countries, including my own. Can even leave Sancho out. I'd say they have the strongest squad in the championships.

14.) 13 Jun 2021 22:19:04
Phillips looks a proper player. Best I have seen him play.

15.) 13 Jun 2021 22:34:05
Seriously, strongest squad? Our keeper along with anyone at CB in that squad are weak. That was a poor attacking croatia team. And Modric was still bossing the modfield when I watched. No one in the england team could get near him. He might be at the end of his career but we could have done with him a few years ago when we had the chance.

16.) 13 Jun 2021 23:31:33
Yes, but he's been doing that for his whole career supa, what a player he would have been for us if we could have got him in. Reminds me of Scholes in that deep lying role. Always a step ahead in his head.

That said, England's midfield had the better of that game, as Shappy said. They were always in control.

17.) 14 Jun 2021 07:54:29
I thought Phillips, Rice and Stones were head and shoulders above everyone else, whilst Mount and Foden played in bursts. Walker and Kane abysmal and the rest bang average.
A 6/ 10 performance but it’s the win that counts!

18.) 14 Jun 2021 07:57:31
Supasub, I'm not saying England always perform. I don't think they'll win the competition. But I don't see a better squad of players at the euros.

19.) 14 Jun 2021 08:38:09
Better squad than France remi? I don't think so.

20.) 14 Jun 2021 10:17:55
Remi, France far and away have the best squad at the Euro's. They have such depth that Laporte switched nationality to represent Spain as he has never received a French cap.

He's 26 years old. Imagine having such strength in depth that you can afford to NEVER give a player of Laporte's quality a single cap.

I could name half a dozen French CB's not at the Euro's who'd be first choice for England.

England do have a good squad, I'd say it's on par with Germany's
and Portugal's, better than the Netherlands and Belgium and maybe a shade better than Italy's.

For once England have a squad capable of genuinely challenging for a title. It all comes down to how they play in these finals.

21.) 14 Jun 2021 11:16:21
Both Portugal and Germany have better squads, though Germany isn't what they used to be, so I would give an edge to England.
I doubt England squad is that much better than Belgium, perhaps with injuries they had.

Anyway, I was expecting Grealish to play, since he was showing so much for England squad, why do you think he didn't get a chance?

22.) 14 Jun 2021 12:57:52
I think Southgate picked a team to do a specific job against Croatia. Grealish wasn't the best fit for that plan. I think we will see Jack play a crucial role in certain games against certain teams either starting or off the bench.

Not sure where they’d finish but I do think they’d be up there. It’s an exiting group of players, I’m expecting them to challenge for and maybe even win coming tournaments. I think England’s main strength is the back 4 of Walker, stones, Mag and Shaw, beast of a defence imo! Southgate is a bit of a nugget though.

I posted about lingard recently and I’m happy for him to stay if he is. I mentioned him being united through and through, plus he’s a local lad who has come all the way through the academy and although I do think this counts for something (as long as your good enough) I don’t think he should be in the squad solely for that reason. The main reason for me is that he’s actually a decent player, obviously he shouldn’t be a starter for most games but he does offer something as a squad player, he’s scored some important goals when called upon and as long as he’s happy with that role I don’t see the need to move him on just yet. Every squad needs players like this, he’s content to stay and has all his family ties etc here in the northwest. I do get that we need space in the squad but feel there are others who should go before Jesse. 👍🏻.
