Looking for comment on those in the know. Of which I am not!

Do City know something about the outcome of their sins that the rest of the world does not or is Anderson on some ridiculous compensation package if they get pinged?

Why else would you sign for them knowing the cloud over their head?

Baffled of Oz!

It's certainly a strange one. It also doesn't look good for us, seeing Ugarte get what looked like a serious injury. That could scupper our chances of selling him. I've got a bad feeling that all of our targets end up elsewhere, and we are left with Ederson only for the CM reinforcements.

Possibly, but he's a young lad and sees City as the most successful team in the country, so any issue will likely be a 1 year issue (I can't see relegation being an issue).

It continues to be a disgrace how long this is taking, as was Chelsea's light punishment. The EPL has no balls whatsoever.

I find City after Pep an interesting proposition. Like, what are they? What do they stand for?

Pep was a huge draw, but what is the draw now? For my generation, City were an underdog yo-yo team. Then came the money and the council stadium.

In my eyes, they'll always be that yo-yo club - Shaun Goater and Paul Dickov, but for anyone born 2000 on, it will be a different view.

I see them as Chelsea, a plastic club built on money, cheating and soft geopolitical power.

I think they'll become a top 6 club, with a title challenge here and there. As each day passes, their punishment for +115 looks unlikely to be too severe.

But I live in hope they get a 60 point deduction, suffer a tough EPL season and get relegated, have their titles removed, and come back up as the plastic club we know they are, so their fans can live with it.

With the ongoing issues at CB and Reece James now injured too (who could have seen that coming?), it’s starting to look as though Tuchel’s anti-United stance could come back to bite him in the ass. I’m not sure what went down when we spoke with him about taking over from Ten Haag, but clearly something that INEOS said rubbed him up the wrong way.

That Shaw and Maguire (especially after Livramento pulled out) weren’t on the plane is crazy. Both had good seasons, and both always turn up for England.

2

27 Jun 2026 00:00:14
What anti-United stance? It was hardly a given that Shaw or Maguire would be chosen - though I expected Shaw to be taken. Choosing both Maguire and Stones would have been highly risky and Maguire's main role would be for chasing late goals.

Tuchel chose Mainoo, for instance, and, though I think Mainoo should be starting, never mind just be in the squad, that was hardly a definite either.

England were slow and ponderous in their last game. They would have been in stasis if Maguire was on the park.

27 Jun 2026 03:45:45
Mainoo has played zero minutes so far. Rashford only got seven minutes against Ghana despite looking decent off the bench in the first game. Shaw (arguably the best English left back right now) and Maguire (still a solid center back, and an excellent option from the bench if you're chasing a goal) didn't even make the squad, while Henderson (who's seemingly only there in some sort of cheerleading capacity) does?

It certainly feels like Tuchel has an issue with the club and/or its players to me.

The full back selections were poor.

To be fair to Shaw, he earned the right to go. And not picking Trent, who can play RB and midfield, felt stupid.

It appears that a new loan deal has been arranged for Onana. We will still have 2 years of his amortization to expense less a small loan fee, but that's probably as good as we could hope for. Maybe next summer, if he does well, with only about £8.5m NBV left on the books he can be moved on permanently without further loss. So that leaves Rashford, Ugarte and Zirkzee to try and find new homes for. Let's hope that Rashford gets to start over Gordon and then has a good tournament from here on in. If I was forced to choose between buying Gordon for what Barcelona paid for him or keeping Rashford, I'd definitely go for the latter. If Dorgu continues on his current trajectory I'll take him over both. Easy decision.

It'll be interesting to see what our finances look like at the year end. There'll be a profit from the sale of Hojlund and a claw back on the cost of firing Amorim to enhance the 2025/6 results. Wouldn't surprise me if we actually make a profit. If we can sell Rashford, get a sell-on fee from the sale of Greenwood, and maybe get a decent fee for Vitek, 2026/7 could be off to a good start financially, leaving us more room for acquisitions, enhanced further by the refinancing of the long term debt which will improve our available host term cash position.

In accounting terms if we amortise £160m a year it's a non-cash item, so if we break even the club will actually generate £160m in +ve cash flow. This +ve will of course be offset by repaying transfer debts. Let's say that £160m is used up doing just that. From a cash point of view we're even but our debt will have decreased. Then there will be new players, which will be bought for cash or over time, either way increasing debt offset by sales of existing players.

The debt is excessive and certainly not ideal but even at these levels it's manageable if the team starts to consistently compete for major trophies and regularly qualifies for the Champions League. Alas we're not however in a position to plonk down £116m in cash up front for a single player as yet. £40-50m in interest payments may be manageable but it remains a millstone. Still, I think we have more room to maneuver than some of the pundits are suggesting.

You get what you pay for. Gems can be uncovered. Look no further than our excellent new keeper, but the best players will cost money. If we are in for someone for our first team, the selling club is looking for a pay day. We can't kid them that they are a backup signing. Every signing will be plus $20m above what a market price might seem.

Hopefully Emerson is a gem, because the price is very good if he turns out to be a top first teamer.

We already have Mainoo, who cost us nothing. Maybe we should be asking why we can't afford a midfield that can win a league, when we have one player for free from our youth?

The ownership of our club seems to be able to blame the financial situation on why they can't spend money. They caused the financial situation. Ineos are the Glazers in sheep's clothing.

27 Jun 2026 00:32:08
I'm not shilling for Ineos, but they bear little responsibility for the debt. Had they not taken over the day-to-day management, it would not surprise me if we had been in far greater debt, and possibly been relegated. Remember, Ineos actually put in $300m in cash, which is $300m more than the Glazers ever did.

27 Jun 2026 00:59:41
Who said we can't spend, Dodgy? Come August, we may be the biggest spenders, or thereabouts. We, just, can't spend 120-130 on one player, and that's another matter. Or maybe we could if the right player (Anderson) wanted to join.

Interesting read: Teddy Sheriham's view that we shouldn't buy Fernandez. He has watched him a lot with West Ham and whiles, "he's a good player, he's not a top player and that's what should be going for now." With Spurs involed, it might still be £80 mill. A lot of young players with potential out there, but they will all be expensive now and a gamble.

Shall we just get our Baleba shirts printed now? He seems the only one we have an open goal at.

I prefer Scott for £60m. He played well for the England U21s, seems mature, and plays with skill and composure.

Well done Ecuador tonight. They played with such desire and intensity. If only United and England could consistently play like that.

Ps Neuer is finished at the top level.

1

26 Jun 2026 12:28:45
They were excellent. They do have some very good players. When allowed to play by their coach, they are an exciting team to watch.

26 Jun 2026 14:37:57
Our likely next opponents.

26 Jun 2026 15:50:14
Ecuador play a lot of matches at high altitude. Not a team you'd want to play against at the World Cup. They could cause a bit more upset going forward.

0

27 Jun 2026 02:09:02
Think it's only about a 15% chance that we play Ecuador next.

Have to say I thought Matheus Cunha had a very good game for Brazil last night. He has 3 goals now, well done to him. Bring that form back for next season!

On a different note, we have seemingly agreed a new 12 month loan for Onana with Trabzonspor.

It's good he will not be coming back to O. T.

Bayindir is also available, so a back up keeper will need to be signed.

26 Jun 2026 01:01:54
I think we will sign an experienced English keeper for the HG quota, either Johnstone or Darlow fit the bill.

1

26 Jun 2026 11:39:54
Why are United so crap at selling players outright lol?

1

26 Jun 2026 11:54:53
Historical high prices paid and salaries for players that have not performed.

We need to get a price to not make a loss, which is usually more than the player's current market value. The player wants to retain as much of their salary as possible, but the new club would likely be paying less wages.

It just means that longer loans make sense, to get some money in, reduce the wage bill, and get closer to aligning the sale value to book value.

Is there anyone more annoying in world football, than Jesse Marsch?

The answer is, 'no', by the way.

3

24 Jun 2026 23:38:27
Sorry Stevie, but there is someone more annoying and you know him.

Je Suis Unite walks away with the award.

I was just confused as to why Jeremy Kyle was managing Canada.

Here in Oz, we have a guy called Andy Harper commentating on
A-League. So bad that I watch games on mute so I don't have to listen to his dribble.

0

25 Jun 2026 19:59:08
I used to turn the image off so I didn't have to watch Anthony dribble!

26 Jun 2026 10:54:56
My grandson is a better dribbler than that useless donkey.

Spurs noise around Fernandez is growing. If that’s the case, where do we think we look? Tchouameni been mentioned, Scott from Bournemouth. Obviously we need quality in midfield but some of the prices seem prohibitive to us. Long summer obviously, but a lot of work to do to have as squad capable of coping with a busy season ahead.

0

24 Jun 2026 21:29:39
It will be alright, Tim.

3

24 Jun 2026 22:15:00
I know it will, Ken. Just interesting to see where we turn next. We seem to like players with Premier League experience, so Scott ticks that box, maybe Baleba will come back into play again although he wasn't great last season. If u had to pick another midfielder, Ken, who would u want? (realistically)

0

24 Jun 2026 22:22:47
I'd prefer Scott. It has a better 'feel' for me than Fernandes.

5

25 Jun 2026 00:06:02
Tim, be cool. Most of this stuff is background noise created by people who are trying to generate jeopardy.

West Ham are very keen on trying to instigate an auction. Clearly, that would be in their interests.

Remember, Jason Wilcox was instrumental in bringing him into Southampton 2 years ago, and he has kept in touch with his team ever since. He fully expects Fernandes to attain top level!

Fernandes has been very clear where he wants to go and will only look to other options if we withdraw from our chase.

West Ham's end of financial year is 30th June, and they may well need to agree a sale of a player by that time to satisfy regulatory issues. Everyone is manoeuvring their position to try for maximum gain. I think we will see a formal bid forthcoming from us in the next few days. I just hope we play our hand successfully.

2

25 Jun 2026 00:35:18
I'm not bothered at all, Tim. I think one guy has as good a chance as any other of being successful or being a flop.
So I'm not at all concerned by who it is. Who I want is irrelevant, I'm not picking the team.

All I'm really concerned about is that whomever comes in, they do well.
I could name any amount of players I'd like to see us sign, but if it's going to happen, no point in discussing it really.

1

24 Jun 2026 23:43:16
We're trying to sign the best midfielder, AJH. Not someone to give you yankspiration.

2

25 Jun 2026 06:07:43
Harsh, Danny. I've never been the same since the hunk that is Daley Blind left. Let me yearn for a new pin up to rock my boat.

4

25 Jun 2026 09:44:21
Beautiful, AJH. No notes.

Excluding penalties, Gordon had 3 goals and 2 assists in the EPL last season. Madueke also scored 3 but had 3 assists. Hardly inspiring performances from wingers. It's comparable to Amad (2&3), whom most of us would agree had an extremely disappointing year.

They're not making Tuchel look good right now. It's unfortunate that Saka is nursing an injury and is not fully fit because he can be a game changer.

2

24 Jun 2026 20:25:19
There's almost zero creativity in the squad. It seems a bad decision when we'll come up against a few low block defenses if we go far. Doesn't help when Kane misses the easiest chance.

2

25 Jun 2026 14:09:04
Every cup competition, we allow ourselves to jettison good sense and be swept away on a tide of hope and belief. That's part of the joy of watching football and supporting a team.

If we look objectively at the most creative and influential midfielders in English or European football over the past decades, nearly all have not been English.

At the highest level, physicality only takes you so far. Technical skill is what helps unlock tight games.

We lack a creative genius in midfield. To expect us to win against the very best is unrealistic.

Ghana showed up our limitations. I like Tuchel, and generally applaud his decision to take players based on league form, but to leave Palmer and Foden and take Madweuki made no sense to me. If Saka is not fully fit, play Eze on the right or Palmer, and get James to overlap more. We will beat Panama, but I fully expect us to lose when we meet a good team.

25 Jun 2026 18:02:25
We looked pretty good in the first game. No need to panic with a draw in the group stage. Anderson and Rise are both capable of being very attacking and creative. Bellingham is considered very creative by most. We just had a lackluster performance and failed to turn up, maybe in the long run it will serve us well.

I would also like to see changes earlier when Plan A is not working.

We are still quite capable of beating any team, and could also slip up against almost anyone. Welcome to international football tournaments.

25 Jun 2026 18:54:57
We do possess creative players. Sadly most of them aren't in the squad.
